Why don't people just play Neotokyo? I don't get it.
because its old probably and if can't have fun playing the same game forever
because its old probably and if can't have fun playing the same game forever
Neotokyo died off before it even got started, ever since about a month after release there have been zero servers hosted for it, it's not because it's 'too old'. People simply never gave it a chance/it never got the exposure it deserved/the fanbase wasn't present to support it.
I'll give it a shot, assuming it'll be playable outside of Asia, but I'm not holding my breath for anything particularly special. The trailer alone makes it looks like just a generic F2P team based multiplayer shooter with Ghost in the Shell fan service painted over the top.
Might be cool, this. Although Nexon will find a way to screw this up somehow.

I still think Neotokyo should had been a single player "mod" instead of a Counter Strike clone, very much because of the companion soundtrack alone. Very much a missed opportunity from those guys, i can't help but think that all that time they spent making Neotokyo was for naught.
I'm always a fan of cyberpunk but this just seems exploitative. Nexon will probably force in a zombie mode like they did with Combat Arms and CS Online.
This is what GitS headshots should look like
I think GitS would have been a perfect setting for some kind of asymmetrical stealth-based tactical shooter based on all the parts in the show where Section 9 is assaulting some building or something filled with bad guys where one team has less player and are the cops where each of them have unique special abilities and the other team is just bad guy mercenaries or something with guns and they have to defend against the assault.
Last game I played that was by Nexon was Dragons Nest which was decently fair...? But it still had rental bullshit and stuff that was obviously there to tease you into spending money.
Blacklight: Retribution used to be pretty fair however now the game sucks as they revamped the recoil system and increased the prices on everything. Also the devs are lazy sacks of shit and haven't updated the game in almost 2 years now besides ported maps from Tango Down.
I miss blacklight, too bad the developers abandoned it for daylight, and that there's no longer a player base around it.

They stopped giving a shit after pushing out horde mode. Shame, the game had a lot of potential.
Nexon has too bad a reputation for me to trust them with my money.
FUCK, I didnt notice nexon. Thanks for ruining my dreams.

actually i play it with friends every now and then, there's not many people but you'll usually get enough to fill a server

Jeez first Tribes and now Blacklight.
Will there ever be a good f2p shooter that manages to last?

sounds like people aren't playing neotokyo because there is no one to play with them
I can somewhat relate with how much that sucks though.
I miss Brainbread. Wonder if anyone gives a care about it any more. it was great.
what part of neotokyo is bland
that game is fucking sick, only problem is the gunplay is bad because it's built on source 2004 edition. Redone guns and some more gadgets and it'd be a 10/10 game.
Neotokyo isn't popular because it's boring. I got to play a good amount during both the new patch and steam release hype periods.
The gun eco system is like counter-strike except you don't lose points, the guns handle very similarly and don't even feel good to use. It also feels incredibly "source-y" which makes the game seem very cheap.
The gun handling system is very point and shoot, there are barely any gadgets besides grenades and the stealth system and while the maps win prizes in aesthetics, they are also pretty boringly designed.
The gameplay of NT is very bland, the maps aesthetics and OST are A++, everything else is C
The 2 things about this thread, One, the laughing man logo is right as shit, (atleast compared to the original picture lol,) and 2, Neo Tyoko is still alive and going, i check up on it almost every day, still has like 3-4 full servers a day.
They didn't get the laughing man logo right :(
to be fair the people aren't actually the laughing man, it's just a [cheap but relevant] gore censorship thing. even has an 18+ 'rating' on the forehead/hat. it's either to cheapen the workload and cover up sub-par headsplosions, or just an on-by-default toggle to allow them to get away with ridiculous gore
I'm always one for benefit of the doubt, but the looming shadow of nexon really put a damper on the excitement. Still loved seeing some of the tech in this and hope there's a lot of cool things to discover
neotokyo was wasted potential and this game is gonna be dumb boring p2w shit like every free korean fps
rip cyberpunk fps genre
This has a high probability of suckage.
What the hell, I already know I'm going to end up playing it just because I'm an obnoxiously rabid GITS fangirl who still hasn't given up on it yet.

was dead before it was even alive
theres only a handful of cyberpunk shooters and half of them are dead
maybe it will capture my interest for a few rounds because gits owns

i bet you this uses the blacklight engine, so their heads really do explode if taken enough hits.
I fucking love ghost in the shell but this looks almost indistinguishable from Blacklight, I dunno for some reason a team based shooter based off of GitS just doesn't seem like it's something that makes a ton of sense.
It's like making a generic team based shooter out of Jin-Roh or Gundam, the source material just doesn't seem to really fit the style of play unless heavily modified, I.E. Battle Ops was a heavily modified team based shooters with a fuck ton of elements, that made it more than just a team based shooter.

Actually, Dragon Nest was in my opinion one of their least pay-to-win games. Problem is, the grind to max level is awful and the developers have no actual idea how to balance. Some classes are just plain useless in PVE while others are so overpowered it's not even funny.
The rental system was for costumes which don't have a significant role in gameplay unless you have the rare costume set. And the only way you could get that would be by buying it using ingame money.
I could talk all day about the good things and the bad things about the game. Most of it revolves around balance and the developers inability to listen to the community.
I think a team based multiplayer shooter kind of misses the point of Ghost in the Shell. The fighting in GitS was very slow and methodical, with people often dying with one or two shots and most fire being used to keep the other guys from shooting at you. There's also no room for story, what are you going to do discuss philosophy in the lobby between games? Have loading screens which question the meaning of human existence?
A proper GitS game should be more like Metal Gear than Call of Duty.
Hooly shit, that opening music
I guess what the fuck did I expect from Nexon. Looks pretty generic. Shoot shit with gadgets thrown in.
I bet Kusanagi will be a $20 premium character with bonus speed or something, typical p2w business.
I honestly think GitS would suit a tactical shooter more. Like Neotokyo but not bland.
I could see it as a cross between XCOM and Natural Selection in terms of tactics.
A Ghost in the Shell game should be like SWAT 3 and Rainbow 6 but with more futuristic shit and super jumping.
Meh. The trailer wasn't really ghost in the shell. They're basically using the brand to promote a genre and business model. Ghost in the Shell wasn't about the combat even though it was good. It was about the story and the characters. And it's because of the story that the anime gained such fame. If a developer was to make a story driven game over a multiplayer shooter. Then I think it would spark my interest.

There's literally no decent cyberpunk shooters.
Having the visual elements of a cyberpunk piece but none of the soul, atmosphere or themes does not make it cyberpunk.
I don't care that its Nexon. I just have to. I can't help it, its out of my control.
