All right, what you need to know is that since Iraq gained independence, America placed one of the rebels in charge, as a show of good faith that they think Iraq knows what they're doing (Hussein). Hussein placed Bin Laden as his commander, but then the whole nasty business of nuclear weapons cropped up. Iraq promised that while they work with nuclear material (the promised that it's only going to be used for energy research) they will let the UN check on everything they do. Sure enough, UN knocks on their door, and they say something along the lines of "Nobody's home, go away." This, of course, looks embarrassing to America, because the leader they chose is going south. They were looking for an excuse to actually go into Iraq. It was America that actually poked Iraq, saying "Let the UN in. Let the UN in." To make America shut up, Osama planned the hijackings of the 3 planes. 2 of them made it to their target. This gave America more than an excuse to invade.
