The obvious downside of a 7-stringer is that the neck is wider which makes it harder to play. Another downside is that the string just gets in the way when you don't play music which utilizes it.

Not hard to mute it.
Went into a shop, tried out an Ibanez SAS-260. Definitely going to get a 360FM.
Or I could could an Epiphone Les Paul Custom, ah the fucking choices.
And those are?
- If any of the hardware breaks, it's more expensive, and harder to replace.
- less pickup types are available in 7 string form.
- 7 string guitars are more expensive than 6 string
- The necks are fatter, making it harder to play
- Strings sets are more expensive
Aside from that, the upside for a 7 string is a pretty lame pretext, as if 144 notes, and a couple hundred chord combinations isn't enough with a 6 string. If you can make a song that uses every single note and chord on a six string, and you still feel you need more, that's when you should get a 7 string.
I actually stated, that he would reduce the size of the neck joint, and not a chance am i getting a 7 string, it's moronic and pointless, nothing amazing happens with a 7 string, its just another low tuned string, or a high tuned string, i dont get the awesomeness of it.
I don't care what he is doing, I care why is he doing it. Why is he reducing the size of the neck joint?
here is mine a gibson SG

I'll stick with 6 strings, I prefer really thin necks.
I don't care what he is doing, I care why is he doing it. Why is he reducing the size of the neck joint?
I'm guessing that due to the bolt on nature of the neck, the large neck joint is restricting access to higher frets.
Well I bought a Bass today. It's an ESP B-154DX, in Red. I don't have a picture of it, but I found one on the internet.

Thumbnailed for size.
That's a badass bass!

Poor suckers with your small hands ;D
Also, FYI, neck joint refers to the routed out space where the neck is joined to the body. What he's talking about is the space below the neck joint (< that's really the best name for it).
-I don't care what he is doing, I care why is he doing it. Why is he reducing the size of the neck joint?
It's not a definite thing, it's just a possibility, and it's just to give me easier access to the lower frets.
And oh yeah a forgot you do your own builds, How's that been goin?
And am gonna do a swap with him aswell as him reducing the joint size, i'm gonna give amp building a go, and if it goes well he's building me a guitar and i'm building him an amp and a head.

- True, but that's the same with any less popular variants of certain things
- But luckily, the small range is of generally popular high end pickups
- Not necessarily
- The neck on an Ibanez 7 string would be pretty similar to that of a classical guitar
- Is that really an issue?
I think for an instrument that can extend your playing, give you something new to master, not to mention the actual fact that you have a standard tuned guitar with those brutal lows, those downsides are pretty good. Besides most of your downsides here are about money.
That's a badass bass!
Thanks, I got it for $350 at a local shop.
I took some pictures of it, too.

The guitar on the left is my shittastic Fender Starcaster, which is just a strat copy made by Fender.
Finally got a picture of my bass

Don't worry, it's not a fender. Just a cheap copy
I'm planning to buy this one, I'd rather have a p-bass:

Wat
Yeah I dunno why I wrote that
I think what I really meant is I cannot afford a fender at all
There's really no such thing as "your own design" unless you want to build your own metal and plastic parts.
Custom designs will always be something-style, because you need to use brand name/licensed hardware. The most you can really do without either screwing up the looks/ sounds is making modifications to pre-existing body design; which is what I intend to do.
Also, I don't like those axe guitars.
Shitty photoshop job aside, this is the concept of what I want to do. The differences are, I'd leave my finish semi natural with an orange and yellow sunburst finish.

The routing job would be mainly what would be more distinguishable about it, as the top side of the horns would be flat, and the sides of the body rounded, giving the horns a "sharp" look.
Nail file, a lot of time and some yellow paint should do the job.

I have one too. :buddy:
They're not incredible as far as basses go, but I love it to death anyways.
What kind of strings do you have on it? Round/flat-wound etc.
Nail file, a lot of time and some yellow paint should do the job.
He's doing more than just sharp horns...
I just have the factory stuff on it. So the superbass round ones. I got the bass recently.

Oh gotcha. If you've never experienced flat-wound strings before, I definitely recommend trying them. I always keep 2 basses at concerts; one with flat-wound strings for most songs, and one with round-wound for slap bass and funkier riffs.
With you as u said ur still learning, master ur 6 and then add another one to ur collection if u feel bored and skilled enough
Don't give advice until you've mastered your grammar.
Finally I'm back! :D
Here are my current guitars:

It's an Ibanez RG270, bought it a couple of months ago. It is absolutely lovely, I love the finish, and I love playing it. The sound could be better though, with a better amp. Right now I have this really low-end beginner tube amp from Behringer.

Epiphone LEs Paul Standard, what can I say? It's got an awesome sound and an awesome finish. When I first began playing the guitar I fucking dreamed of this guitar, so I saved up for it, but now it is a bit too generic for my taste.

I feel the exact same way about mine, I wish I had gotten the dean now.
I wish my dad had forked over the 300 pound for that Dean Razorback explosion.
:(
