Learning music theory was the best thing I did for my playing.
I was reluctant at first, but It's made improvisation and soloing so simple.
Found this little thing on stewart macdonald

Pretty awesome, I bought one, hope to put it in my next guitar.
Found some sounds clips from a bass that's using it.

I'm sure you could achieve better effects from certain pedals, but it's pretty damn convenient having it in the guitar without needing a battery. :3:
i was browsing around on thomann and found some company called tenayo who make diy guitar kits. are these things trustworthy? i was thinking about getting this:

Are there any brands that do really cheap strat copies so I could just fuck around with it and maybe give it a new paint job?

I don't think you want to go any lower than Affinity Squiers
http://www.rondomusic.com/electricguitar.html
SXs Are built decently, and as any bassist on Talkbass will tell you, their basses are great for the price you pay - They skimp on unimportant thuings such as pickups and not on the important stuff suh as the neck.
This is going by word of mouth like, I am going to be buying and SX jazz soon.. And I own a musicman...
Hey guys I have this kind of guitar, what mods should I do to make it look cooler and more unique?

You may write with your blood a name of your band on this guitar))) Seriously - put some design or stick special label

They're as trustworthy as your ability to build stuff is. Basically, if you build it well it should be okay.

here's a cheap strat, comes with a bunch of shit though

I know nothing about Tenayo, but since it's that cheap the hardware probably isn't the best, but if you are limited to that price range then maybe it's a good choice.
Anyone here know any fun solo's to play?

I love Dream Theater, and that solo is waaay to hard for me lol, any intermediate solo's that you recommend?

Ruiner by Nine Inch Nails was the first I learnt. Try Iron Swan by the Sword too.

The solo from the AC/DC song You Shook Me All Night Long is pretty cool, fairly easy tbh but sounds good.

Oh for God's sake, I was going to suggest that.
There are 4 guitars in my house... And I don't play. I occasionally play a little.
An electric, an electric-acoustic, an acoustic and a Spanish acoustic.
I should learn >.>
I'm looking to buy a new guitar. I have a budget of around £450-500. I like playing Metal mostly, so i'm looking at a Jackson, Ibanez, Dean maybe? I don't know, can FP recommend me anything to look around for?

got a few options
dean - razorbacks/ML's/explorers
LTD - anything you like really, although i dont like the thin necks.
jackson - anything again, but be warned they are heavy
bc rich - try not to poke your eyes out

Jackson, heavy? More like Dean and Bc rich are heavy, jackson is the standard weight
Jackson, heavy? More like Dean and Bc rich are heavy, jackson is the standard weight
my friend had a jackson and it weighed a bit more than my dean so i dunno

Hold a Dinky and then hold a Razorback
I play a bass that weighs 9 Pounds 5 Oz (4.2KG!) and I still manage to run around and jump like a madman on stage, and I'm a skinny sod, Get a thick strap if you find it heavy and it really shouldn't be a problem unless you suffer from a bad back.
Just weighed it, It weighs somewhere near the high 10 pounds.
Thanks for some ideas. I don't know why, but i'm not a fan of really ornate guitars and headstocks like the BC Rich ones, i kind of like Dinky Jacksons and maybe a King V. I'd love an ESP KH shape guitar, are they in my budget / good for metal?

You ask if ESP is for metal?

No :P i'm asking if those specific kinds, like, is a KH signature are better suited for soloing and shredding? or more for heavy riffs and things like that, which is what i'm more interested!?
I play alot of Metal, but i'm a rhythm guitarist, not a soloist, so i was wondering if there are better suited guitars to heavy riffs and chugging palm mutes etc.

its not the guitar, its the guitarist, as soon as u get used to it, ull shred anything from solos to heavy riffs
[editline]07:42PM[/editline]
so what i would suggest is go to store and try them, hug them, hold them
whatever feels better, take it
Get a guitar with a mahogany body, maybe Ibanez or Schecter.

There are no specific dealers around me, so i was looking to buy off the internet. My buddy says he know a place that has one though, so i guess i'll go check it out. Thanks guys.
Since we're on metal guitars, do you think a Les Paul would play good with distortion? Opeth uses them :(
