Guitar strings don't grow on trees
I wanna buy a delay pedal and a flanger pedal. I was messing around with my distortion and whammy pedals ther other day, and if you turn the mid frequency knob on the distortion pedal while playing, it gets some awesome spacey sounds. I literally sat there for half an hour creating ambient psychadelic music, just mesing around on pedals.
Also I could buy a new guitar, or get a flanger, delay and reverb pedal and still have some money left.
I would get the pedals, but why in the hell do you need a reverb pedal?

To have a reverb effect. :]

Get the pedals, you already got a kickass guitar
Could you guys recommend me a good first electric guitar? I've been playing acoustic for a while and want to switch to electric sometime in the future. I'm looking to mainly play rock and metal, that kind of stuff.
To have a reverb effect. :]
Well obviously, but how much reverb do you need that the amp's reverb just isn't good enough?

You want a guitar with humbuckers. The Jackson JS series is fantastic for all your metal needs. But they're sort of rare I believe. Ibanez is another good brand for Metal. As is ESP. You probably want to spend atleast 3-400 bucks on the guitar, unless you buy a used one (which can be a good idea).

If your amp doesn't have reverb? Not all amps do. Or you don't like your amp's reverb, simple as that.
I bet you were tapping a minor.
:v:
Fingering!
I like reverb...
Also do pedal boards come with those really short leads that connect two pedals together, or do I have to buy some seperately?
I had to buy them separately

My advice to you is to buy a multieffect pedal. They usually cost around 150 - 300$ and come with all sorts of effects.
[editline]04:48PM[/editline]
The downside of course is that you wont have as much control over the effects.
Speaking of pedals, what is the difference between distorion pedals and the Gain knob on my multieffect and amp?

Well a distortion pedal will have more gain, and youll have more control over the output signal, so it's generally better.
Does anyone have a guitar with 22 frets? I was looking at a really nice guitar, but it's only got 22 frets instead of the usual 24. I was wondering if anyone had a 22 fret guitar and if they felt it was a big disadvantage. Personally nothing I've ever played has used frets 23 and 24 (the closest I've come is the One solo, with a big bend on the 22nd)
Here's the guitar incase anyone's wondering:

It's Jon Donias' signiature ESP (I don't even know who he is but he has good taste in guitars)
Another thing I found a bit wierd on this guitar is that he has a EMG 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck, as opposed to the usual 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck. Do you think it would make much difference?

I have a 22 fret strat and the One solo and a few others is also the highest I've played. It won't be a huge deal, but I would like to have the extra 2 frets personally.
I honestly don't know anyone that needs 24 frets...there's a part in the Puppets solo where you play on the pickup, so it might help you there, but that's about it.

John Petrucci, Dream Theater, Joe Satriani...
There's plenty of material that uses the extra frets, it's just not nearly as popular.

I have 21 and never really go past 17. :v:

Oh, I thought gain was a completely other thing.

Yeah, me too. The only time when I use the extra frets is when I do really long sequences.
Someone give me a song to learn, like a good solo but not too fast, and not just some powerchord rape song.
If you haven't already, learn stairway to Heaven. No powerchords, awesome solo.

One of the most overplayed and overrated songs in the world.
If you really want tricky solos, look into Dream Theater. Just trust me, you will not be disappointed.
The headstock on those things, it looks like it's always about to crack

I recently bought a 22-fretted one from having just played on a 24, and yes I feel that I have a big disadvantage playing it. I mostly play Power/Thrash/Prog Metal and I go past fret 22 quite often, especially on the B-string. The 22-fretted guitar I bought was more of a novelty thing. I'd never buy an expensive 22-fretted guitar with the intent to lead on it. I feel handicapped playing it. Oh yeah, and the nodes for where to hit the pinch harmonics will move, which is very annoying. :S
But that's just me. You need to take your styles of playing into consideration.
Didn't you buy like a $1000 guitar just a month ago anyway?
Looking at getting some new stuff for my christmas, i may have the ridiculously awesome opportunity to get a dean razorback explosion for about 300 quid, maybe, just maybe, but if not then what should i do.
Im thinking of getting a peavey vypyr for 85 quid and not sure what guitar to get, or to just perform a total overhaul on my own guitar by giving it a new nut, bridge, pickups and locking tuners.
On my strat, I have the bridge flushed to the body, with all 5 springs. Can I damage the guitar if i dive with the tremolo now?
I wish I'd bougt a SL2HT instead of a SL2H, same thing except with a fixed bridge instead of a floyd rose.
Also does anyone know if the Ibanez PGM301 is still being sold? Or is it obsolete?

Dream Theater sucks.
It's a bunch of guys who decided to over pack songs with a bunch of arpeggios and sweep solos that have no feel whatsoever.
Listen to some Hendrix. Learn guitar the right way.
Dream Theater = Fledgling musicians music.
... Till they get past the fret-wankery stage and discover more soulful and challenging styles.
Fast Fret wankery sweepy stuff = "Appreciated" by the general public, for god knows what reason
Soulfull Jazzy theory/imporvisational styles = Appreciated by musicians for all the right reasons
Locking to one style is dumb, you're just limiting yourself, Play stuff in a time signature that isn't 4/4 play it backwards learn to read music.
I like what my theory tutor once said "When you think of a string quartet or a trumpet player, you instinctivly imagine them reading off a sheet; Think of a guitarist... Where's the sheet?"
Get a guitar with a mahogany body, maybe Ibanez or Schecter.
Ibanez guitars usually are made out of basswood.
