Not intentionally, but clearly the mob saw it differently. Top Gear should consider if something they do could potentially offend these types of people and take steps to avoid those things, after all the cast and crews safety is at risk. Even if they made an intentional joke through something such a license plate, it's not worth risking their lives over it, there are a lot of idiots out there that would easily get offended by the dumbest things. Guess now they know they need to watch what their plates could say to some idiots so this type of situation doesn't happen again. Though who could've honestly predicted that such a violent response would have been sparked by a license plate of all things.
It's a fucking number. It's not even a properly shortened year, usually you either type out the full year, or shorten it to the last 2 digits, this was 3 digits. Your username is Fort83, and the Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie was arrested and charged with war crimes in 1983. Why do you support Nazis you piece of shit?
Your username is offensive, 83? 1983? December 17th 1983 an IRA bomb killed 6 and injured 90.
Lets not forget that precisely 83 Cubans were injured or killed near Fort George and Fort Matthew during the Invasion of Grenada in 1983. What a heartless bastard.
Las Falklands son Británicas!
I feel like it's a pretty big coincidence that they'd accidentally find one that had the date of the conflict as well as the Falklands 3-letter international abbreviation on it.
It is the original license plate. https://twitter.com/james__procter/status/520121858596044800/photo/1
If that happened in the UK there would be arrests made.
Way to completely miss the point. Part of their job, and the job of their boss, the insurance they acquire when going, and even the security advisors job is to make sure the cast and crew are safe while abroad and that any safety concerns are met. Knowing their history to piss people off, intentionally or otherwise. The smart choice would be to do a little bit of research into the place they are visiting for any issues they should try to avoid. It has nothing to do with "pussyfooting" it's about risk management. You're acting as if I'm taking the side of the mob just because I'm not kissing Top Gears feet. The mob is fucking stupid and completely in the wrong, I don't believe the plate was intentional, but there are definitely things Top Gear can do to try and avoid another incident this violent. The last thing anyone wants to see if part of the cast or crew getting injured.
Who in the hell would have thought a car with a plate that's been registered for who knows how long, which reads "H982 FKL" could refer to the 1982 Falklands war? Shouldn't the L come before the K, anyway? That's stretching SO far that it's basically looking at something and concentrating on it until something you think of matches. Do you look at Barcodes in the grocery store and think HOLY SHIT THIS IS MOCKING 9/11! ? No, you don't, because that's fucking retarded. And even if they did, who the fuck cares. Big woop
Its not the numberplate. They were given the chance to fight/kill people from the UK and thats what they did. The veteran who was talking that crap about the numberplate was just trying to cover things up.
Idk if it's the same in the UK/Falklands/Argentina but in New Zealand you can just buy a new number plate/get a custom one made and stick it on as long as you register it. I feel like it's a pretty big coincidence that they'd accidentally find one that had the date of the conflict as well as the Falklands 3-letter international abbreviation on it. But really it's such a silly thing to get up in arms about - if you can't dickwave and joke about shooting at Jerries or throwing stones at Brits or having a war over a scrap of rock with bird shit on it what is the point of even going to war?
They would have had to fly the porche back to UK to get it re-regged. Plus the plate said FKL, not FLK which is short for falklands
Oh god imagine being this upset about a license plate :v:
It is the original license plate. It just pisses me more to think that they are trying to cover this up by saying the plate was already registered, do they really think we are that stupid? I mean everyone knows the lengths they go to mock other cultures. Someone should hang for this.

The whole thing is a fucking mess to begin with, but even if there was a fault (and there most certainly wasn't) how the hell is the cameraman responsible and why should they fear for their lives as they have to run through a foreign country in the middle of the night while trying to avoid a vicious mob.
Has Argentina apologised yet?
Has Argentina apologised yet?
Do you think they will? Fat chance.
The UK should invade.
The UK should invade.
They'd probably win.
What is with Argentina's hostility regarding the Falklands? Do they just forget that they were the ones who invaded us? Do they just forget that our victory against them was a catalyst for their own liberation from a dictatorship? We demanded no humiliation from them in peace despite their transgressions and we treated their prisoners with respect.

They have this idea that everything around them is theirs even though it was already claimed by someone else, they also don't care about the local population of those areas either. The Falklands population doesn't want to be associated with Argentina and they consider themselves British Nationals, there's also the issue which was brought up with the Chilean Islands as well which Argentina claims they own, not Chile. Basically, they are bullies in self denial and assume they own everything they see, reality is that's not the case because you don't own your next door neighbor's garden.

Government full of twats, deep seated hatred probably stemming from propaganda by government and stories of veterans. they're under no threat of invasion because I am pretty sure Argentina couldn't afford another war with us, I seriously doubt they could put a dent in the standing garrison actually if it did happen.
Seems to be blocked for me.
Can someone reupload or something?
Can someone reupload or something?
Fuck. I just started watching it earlier today, but barely watched 10 seconds before i had to leave, and a few hours laters, it's already down ...
It's not just the license plate excuse though is it? The former military regime is in tatters. The economy is fucked. They owe billions in bond pay outs. And then a controversial British television program turns up on their doorstep. Result:
It's such a shame that happened Before all the shit kicked off that was one of the most beautifully shot specials yet!
For those who want to watch it, you can view both parts at: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04ww8hj/top-gear-patagonia-special-part-1 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04ww8y1/top-gear-patagonia-special-part-2 For those who just want to watch the attack, it's the last 20 minutes in part 2. If you don't live in the UK, just use Hola Unblocker and set your country to the UK.
This is supposed to be offensive? This would be like calling the emergency services in the USA offensive for being called by 911. Oh no, I accidently burnt my left arm and need help. But calling the emergency number reminds me of the terrorist attack. Now I am even more said. [editline]30th December 2014[/editline] Oh boy, if we germans would act like argentinians every time world war 2 is mentioned... Earth would be blown up. Multiple times.

Have fun with that.
It's such a shame that happened Before all the shit kicked off that was one of the most beautifully shot specials yet!
I know right! I almost forgot how gorgeous the southern Argentine and Chilean landscapes are. Absolutely breath-taking. I hate nationalism with a passion.
