"Focus" is like Detective Mode in Batman Arkham Asylum. A shitty design choice that hides the art-style and replaces it with blue and more blue. "Swoop" has some shitty effects, too. Cut all the blur shit and overdone vignettes, just make you swoop from one shadow to the next without an overdone UI effect. Also it's ridiculously bright. He was waltzing right past AI directly in front of a campfire and stealing their shit without them even giving him a second glance. Everything needs to be darkened. Most of my complaints are with the UI, AI, and art design. The gameplay looks solid enough.
Why get Thief 4 when you can get The Dark Mod which is better, released and free?
I feel like the slowing down thing is ok. the argument they used in hitman absolution is to mimic the skills and years of training he has, which is kinda impossible to do without such mechanics.
I actually liked how they handled the changes in Absolution when it comes to mechanics. The way 47's instinct was represented by static was really clever in my opinion. Hardcore mode existed to strip those away. The only problem was bad writing and level design. It was an alright game; just not a Hitman game. [editline]18th June 2013[/editline]
"Focus" is like Detective Mode in Batman Arkham Asylum. [editline]18th June 2013[/editline]
"different"? You mean like a new stripped down dishonored? That's what it looks like to me. They didn't even say taffer. Guess I should expect that, since all todays gamers seem to be stupid idiots that can't even play Metroid without getting stuck. Call me a purist, but I like games that give me a challenge and gives me rewards for thinking new instead of just showing me everything at the push of a button.
This post seems like a gross and fatalistic overgeneralization. "Oh no optional new gameplay mechanics are there that make the game easier for the people who opt to use them, at least I can sit on my high horse and know that I'm superior to these plebeians for opting not to." Because without those optional features the game basically looks like a modern thief, a game whose gameplay is actually extremely simple when you get down to it.

Enjoy your Dishonored rip-off [editline]18th June 2013[/editline]
This post seems like a gross and fatalistic overgeneralization. Call it Assassins Thief: Swooshy Pickpocketer. They are introducing stuff that doesn't need to be introduced. It's just to cash in on more casual 3 second attention-span gamers. I can safely say that most true Thief fans would be happy with a new Thief game that keeps the core gameplay of the 2 first ones, while adding better graphics, new enemies, locales and quests.
lmao thief came out in 1998 If anything dishonored ripped of thief :v:
But this plays more like dishonored. That's what I'm saying, it's NOT THIEF!
How can you know how it plays, if you haven't even played it yourself.
But this plays more like dishonored. That's what I'm saying, it's NOT THIEF!
if you turn off focus mode it is
I chuckled at the CoD stab I gotta give them that :v:
if you turn off focus mode it is
It's good that you can do that, but I hope to god it doesn't turn into another Hitman: Absolution, where you could turn off the pissflames-o-vision on hardest difficulty, but made the game nigh impossible due to the stupid and broken disguise system.

Necessary, didn't appear so. I suppose we will see once more about this is shown.
Dark Messiah has same stuff, no one complained...
Dark Messiah was not Thief sequel nor a sequel to any other game. it was stand-alone..
Dark Messiah has same stuff, no one complained...
Honestly Dark Messiah had better AI Dark Messiah is a nice action RPG pick it up if you get the chance, the multiplayer was fun but it's dead/full of hackers now.
Ugh, I'm getting a sour taste of Hitman:Absolution in my mouth... Why can't we have challenging games with a trail-and-error element? Instead we just get pre-made setpieces of actions that we can throw together in a confined environment like a shape-matching toy for toddlers. I'm just gonna play "the dark mod" for doom 3 some more and hope this won't be the same bullshit again.
Step 1. Everyone freaks out due to first demo gameplay, forum is in disaray Step 2. Gameplay demo is released that shows that the original gameplay is still present, forum rejoices Step 3. Game is released, is actually just as shown in the original demo, forum will use game as example to future games that follow the same path [editline]18th June 2013[/editline] Absolution really was one of the only games to actually make me mad, fuck it fuck it fuck it
This is exactly what people said when they were demoing Hitman Absolution though
Yes and Hitman Absolution ended up being an Absolutely fantastic game and Deus Ex and Max Payne
It looks cool, but there is way to much stuff happening on screen when you move. The vignetting around the edges is obtrusive, and the 'swoop' effects are unneeded and overdone.
Then it's not a game for you and you should not ruin/demonize it for everyone else, it's your own opinion and taste, but if you want to talk about it make sure you actually write something constructive instead of throwing piles of crap on it.
The only time people ever say this is when they're getting mad about someone's opinion. You don't really care about how constructive his post is you just want him to shut up tbh. What he said IS constructive, the industry needs a fuckin kick in the head. It's very bizarre that despite huge leaps and bounds in technology that our games are getting dumber, overly simplified, less challenging and less sophisticated. And since there's inevitably going to be a "b-but <x> game isn't like that!!": I'm talking in general, not specifics.
This is the kinda shit that happens when you make a good PC franchise for consoles. It ruins a lot of what made it good. They had better fix a lot of this, I loved Thief 2 and 3, and am getting sick of seeing good games going down the consolization toilet.
"You can see in Thief we have next gen dogs" heh
I don't know, I've never played a Thief game but this is something that I can actually see myself playing. I really like the animations, at least. There doesn't seem to be an "invisible hands" syndrome where you do an action like picking something up but there's no actual animation for it. Hopefully for the purists there's gonna be something akin to a "hardcore" mode where you can't use focus and they remove some of the UI like the visibility crystal.

So even with a hardcore mode it just feels tacky.
