Tyler is awesome. He was the one responding to most of my submitted tickets and he was really helpful.
Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback.
Also, JWJ, will your support staff have the ability to check hardware issues for servers? I can't express how frustrating it was to be told that my server's lag was due to plugins when it was actually a hardware issue that you had to point out.
I'm sure everyone has gotten better since then, I just don't want to go through that again.

I can second this, and I'm sure there will be many to third it and so on. He helped with each ticket I had, and even came on the check the server every so often, that's one of the things I really appreciated.
Tyler even gifted me a copy of Portal and L4D2. He's a great guy, and he along with the rest of the team don't deserve any of this. I wish them the best of luck with finding a new job soon.
Thanks for the ride and all the help guys, it's been fun

You were probably told that by someone under my or Tyler's access levels. In nearly every case we dealt with, it was generally a plugin issue, and the signs look the same to anyone with lower system access.
Those staff from Brohoster aren't what I'd call staff though, they're young adults who either do this on the side, or have (imho foolishly) decided to do this full time. From what I can tell the full-timers seem very self important ("Look at all the work I did!" - guess what mate, in the real world you'll do the same, and you'll grin and bear it to pay the rent.) and then on top of that, these same employers came in here talking shit about their employer, saying it's all gone to pot and then not really being of much help to anyone. In fact one got angry and told someone to get out the thread. Got angry, to a fairly annoyed customer, over a fuckup, in a public forum. The thing is these aren't people doing this for a Comp Sci uni dissertation, these are people you're giving money to, to do this.
I know the whole idea of using a small indie server/web host that no ones heard of is nice, and you feel special, I really did - "Oh, you've not heard of brohoster? They treat you like a bro, not screw you like a ho..." - I used to love saying that, but there's a lot to be said to be using instead a big company that has a lot of money and won't fuck up, even if they don't think I'm a bro. Frankly I'd rather be a happy paying customer.

Oh I didn't mean JWJ, I'm sure he's a cool guy, I meant that other person who got all uppity about something on like page 2 or whatever. I don't wanna post a name in case I get the wrong one and upset someone but I think they said they had worked for Brohoster.
Anyway just to be clear and I'm saying anyone's just thieving money away, what I mean is I'm going to be more particular about which companies I think deserve my money. Vote with your wallet etc etc. As an example if I'd have known that brohoster would be this flim-flammy about massive events (they didn't email me last time there was an almost-meltdown, and I haven't been emailed this time when there was one) I wouldn't have bothered with them. The reason I don't want to throw my money towards JWJ's new company is because I want the assurance of knowing I've given it to a company that just thinks I'm a number and will have buckets of money to be able to refund me if they have to, and have systems in place for if they ever did fuck up.
Do you remember when amazons servers went kaboom for a bit? They were very good about it, a hosting company that used amazons services called zehosting (I've never used them) kept all their customers in the loop. That's what I'm looking for. I don't think I'll get that buying from a startup by a young adult who acts with an attitude I'm not sure I like (don't think you have to agree with me) on an internet forum.
I can see where you're coming from here, but the reason LethalDrive is being trusted is because I ran Brohoster and I actually have first hand knowledge this time around to do it even better (as well as my entire team). That being said, the thing about how we're not well established and all is perfectly understandable and hopefully more people will migrate to us once we've become more established.
As for our feelings towards this whole debacle, it was more than a job for all of us. It was pretty much our lives and our hobbies, we spent every waking hour that we could into Brohoster. It wasn't some 9 to 5 job that we hated doing, it was a job we loved doing and that we loved doing as a team. Saying that they shouldn't be considered staff just because of their age is completely ridiculous as well - I sat in a chatroom with 'older folk' at another gameserver company (one of the largest in the world actually) and to be blunt they couldn't even form proper sentences. They sounded like what you'd expect in a shitty GMOD server host's ticket responses.

Oh hey there! I was utterly confused when you said you had no idea who I was in steam, because it's such a unique name
I'm sorry your daughter is addicted to my server, but I'm afraid to say we're not down yet :v:
We'll be getting a server from LD soon. Currently hosted on Tyler's private server, I forgot to mention that. Thanks again for that Tyler :v:
The most qualified people to run game server providing companies would be gamers themselves anyway, and developers who work with those games, as well.
You had the best of both worlds with Brohoster in it's early days, because every single employee back then was both a gamer, and a developer that worked with the games we sold servers for.
The optimal employee for a GSP, in my opinion, is a professional and organized individual who knows where to draw lines in business and handle their position properly and efficiently, be it one of a managerial position, a network one, or a technician, is a gamer and can be a laid back individual, and has experience at least running the type of servers you're selling bare minimum. Really though, you should be considering primarily developers who have worked with the systems you're setting up.

Have you seen A Little Help?
oh god yes
What is a good place to host my server temporarily until this new service comes online? I'd like to pre-order but me and my friends wanted to play over the weekend.

No I understand, that's why I was asking.

I chose multiplay for a month, with the code dontgetscrewed, means for this month I have a minecraft server, 40% off the usual price, and a free voice chat, intend to move to lethaldrive once they are up.

This is true.
I remember on more than one occasion in the past, whenever there was a huge problem with the service, you would stay up until you could find the cause and fix it. Hell, every problem I remember having was always answered and resolved right away, even when it was late.
Anyways, I ordered a server from LethalDrive earlier today. Can't wait until the service is up and running.

That's nothing.
There were around 400 or so earlier today.
Oh, now I know why my server was down the entire day and all my work was suddenly gone!

heya andrew! lol
I'd avoid Multiplay like the plague personally, by the way...
I haven't heard of Multiplay until recently. Don't know if want...
Softlayer Global Sales just contacted me directly saying how they were watching the whole situation and sent me a quote very close to what we had at Brohoster.. looks like I might be able to do an even better config, although it's gonna cut into our profit margins for sure.
not that I'm new to that. :v:
