Are we seriously going to get into a CG/Tokusatsu debate because that is some of the [I]dumbest[/I] shit.
They work for what they are. I prefer Tokusatsu for Godzilla because that's its style, but CG can work great when intended (see 2014). Whatever it is, it should bring the character to life, no matter the quality.

Oh yeah, I could be wrong but that looks like a still photo of the suit in Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla which wasn't actually a scene in any of the movies. It's got a filter over it too. But regardless of which film it's from I did say this "If it's not a direct screen cap, as in it's been doctored or touched up, it doesn't count."

Absolutely not, I'm not trying to say the old Godzilla movies are bad looking. I love Godzilla dearly and have most of the films on VHS.
I'm just saying this newest one looks amazing and to say that the old ones were more convincing is just a case of rose tinted glasses.

Eh, I still consider most of the Heisei/Mellenial series to be pretty convincing but I put that solely on the immersion I get from the films.
I just hate it when people go "hurhur it was rubber suits n' cardboard buildings", that makes me have a hernia.
Also, The_J_Hat, that filename says it's a Hesei era godzilla. I urge you to look up some scenes for every hesei godzilla movie and compare them to that screenshot. you'll see they look quite different in motion.

I feel like I really need to reiterate that at no point I ever said the old zilla films weren't good looking or anything like that, just that this new one just looks very convincing compared to the olds. They did a really good job with it.
I was almost positive it was a still from Return of Godzilla. The only thing I can find that's similar is this:

But like you said, big difference between a still and the film itself. That's the biggest problem so far with the new design, imo, they haven't shown him actually doing anything yet. He's just standing there

I might be missing something here but the Godzilla in that clip is from a different film. He's bleeding in part of it so it's probably from Mechagodzilla.

That's probably the absolute best possible example you could have used too, that's actually his best looking shot in the entire movie. but it looks like someone put a blueish filter over it for whatever reason. For a more accurate example of how zilla looks during the whole film just check this out. he still looks really freaking good though.

But I mean, this is probably one of the best looking godzilla films of old and to say the new one looks worse than that? I don't get how someone can think that.
That still is more likely to be of [URL="http://godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/BioGoji"]BioGoji[/URL] than [URL="http://godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/84Goji"]84Goji[/URL] since the latter didn't have the noticeable ears.

Main reason for that is because 84Goji was able to house an animatronic for more complex movement and was used in a number of scenes, one example being the scene from the thumbnail.

While still retaining some of the cartoonish design of the Showa era incarnations, it's still somewhat believable.
