ShandyPants, do not attempt to put this on greenlight.
seriously all this money was made against the ToS anyway
UK-based creator requirements:
—You are 18 years of age or older.*
—You are a permanent UK resident either creating a project in your own name or on behalf of a legal entity with a Companies House Number.
—You have a UK address, UK bank account, and government-issued ID (driver’s license or passport).
—You have a major credit or debit card.
Don't worry, we have made the kickstarter under their terms and conditions.
Firstly, I have a major debit or credit card. I mean, How would I even be able to make the kickstarter if I didn't.
Secondly, the kickstarter was made under parental permission. I think I went into more detail on this stuff a while back on the aerolite forums. Also talking about how the game doesn't violate copyrights and things like that...
Say what you will, but Shandy's following his goddamn dreams, and I respect that.

And he should, but giving him £800 and encouraging him to put it on greenlight will only end in tears. Nobody's first game project should be given any funding, let alone a child's game that realistically belongs as a free flash game on Newgrounds.

I better get my story straight, for those who don't know it. I wrote this on the aerolite forums a while back:
I understand your concern. But we think that the kickstarter was the right choice to go.
We have been doing work on scratch for over five years now. I remember when I started, A long time ago. I kept on experimenting until I was able to make great things with scratch. I wanted to go further, but with nowhere to go.
When creating games like Jointless Man, I realized that scratch wasn't capable for making advanced games. About a year ago, I was introduced to construct 2. A 2D game engine which was capable with much more than scratch. At a similar time, me and my friend started making Grand Theft Pizza Delivery. We spent about six months, on and off with the project. Eventually, we got to the point where scratch was the only thing letting us down. As someone with experience on construct 2, I realized that that was the best route to go.
We then spent a month or so porting what we already do to construct 2. We only had the free version though, and that was limited in effects and scripts. Basically, we couldn't make more than the first two missions in the free version. That is when we had the radical idea of creating a kickstarter for the game. We wanted to make the game how we wanted it, and we knew it was possible. We set the goal of £300. Enough to buy licenses for construct 2, music editing software, and possibly a steam greenlight license.
The community is very supportive of the game. When we started the kickstarter, out of the blue, random people started pledging for the game! We used footage from the scratch prototype, as the construct 2 port looked a little messy at the time. Nonetheless, people still backed. We were amazed at how successful it was. The customers know what they are getting. We tried to tell them as well as possible. We want to give them more than they bargained for. With our amazing community, we listen to their ideas, and we have implemented them into the game. We think the fans will like it more that way.

Also talking about how the game doesn't violate copyrights and things like that...
You should have thought about it before you called the game Grand Theft Pizza.
It basically looks like a Joke version of the top down GTA anyway.
Good Luck but if you put this on Greenlight, your seriously doing nothing but creating another Air Control and people will laugh at you.
Don't put it on Greenlight, but what do i know? Im just a stranger on the internet with a Diploma in Games Design and going to Uni for it!
Construct 2 is a powerful ground breaking HTML5 game creator designed specifically for 2D games. It allows anyone to build games — no coding required!
Download Now
So you're going to be buying an at least £80 license for Construct 2 - an engine that lets you build games without any coding knowledge.
Do yourself a favor kid and learn how to code instead - you won't get anywhere in the industry by using these programs. These programs are specifically designed to rip off people who have no idea what they are doing.
Start learning to code now, and at 16 you'll be able to take a computing course for your AS/A Levels, and then progress in to university. Wasting your time on projects like these isn't doing anybody any good.
You should have thought about it before you called the game Grand Theft Pizza.
And we did.
You should have thought about it before you called the game Grand Theft Pizza.
I seriously don't get why people think this isn't violating copyright. The 'grand theft' is a prefix of a popular video game franchise, he is using the exact same font as this franchise, and the 'open-world' nature of the game is extremely similar to GTA.
Sure, these features on their own may not be violating copyright, but all of them together? He's going to get fucked out of everything he's made.
Look at Bethesda, they managed to take Mojang to court for using the title 'Scrolls' for one of their games. A single word. Not the same font, not the same genre - a word. Even if this kid wasn't found guilty of infringing copyright (spoiler: he wouldn't) he'd lose everything to court costs, lawyer costs, transport costs etc.
I better get my story straight, for those who don't know it. I wrote this on the aerolite forums a while back:
You do realize that most people who build good games work on their own engines right? Or at the very least, a largely modified version of an existing engine. It allows for greater control and precision over what you want to achieve. And it requires a ton of experience with software development. Some companies outright build their own engines from scratch for their games. I get that you're just a kid and some friends working together, but y'all can definitely pick up some C++ books at a bookstore and start studying up and working on random little projects until you can build your own engine or modify one.
This kid sounds like Tyrion Lannister.
Just to reiterate my previous point about copyright, this is akin to opening a fast food restaurant called 'McDon's' with this logo:

and plz and Grand Theft Pizza Delivery to Steam Greenlight
Oh and to continue my picture comparison theme, the Construct 2 engine he's using is essentially this (for those of your that are old enough to remember):

This allows people to make paintings without any technical skill or real effort - and any art made by these will look near-identical to the rest. Yes, it's still a painting, but it's a shit one. One that cost £800 to make.
[editline]13th July 2014[/editline]
Shandy, I'm not trying to discourage you from learning to create games, but you should be doing it the right way. I don't think you understand the severity of crowdfunding £800 and having to deliver on these promises.
As of yet you don't have the correct tools or technical knowhow to release a game.
Learning C++ is Invaluable, Games and Otherwise.

I'm torn. People Praising what I do. People giving constructive criticism. People obviously trolling.
Maybe it was a bad idea to go on this thread, after seeing many people with unanswered questions about the game. I understand that some people do not like the game, some do not want me to put the game on greenlight. I see where you are coming from, but then again, It's me, and the kickstarter backers who decide. I get annoyed when I here things like (These are real quotes):
your seriously doing nothing but creating another Air Control

this piece of shit flash game
I mean, how do they even know what the game will be like. I haven't shown off any more pre-alpha footage than the original prototype. Really! Don't judge until the game is finished.
I hope that some understand that I want to make a good game. I do quality check my work. The current Pre-alpha build has very few bugs. And the game is fun to play, IMHO.
Oh well. I guess phil fish may be right, posting clever comebacks to abuse.
P.S. When I visited Greece, I saw many Fake McDonalds. They were were still open. That's not the point. though.
If ShandyPants isn't trolling us hard, then he might just be the most arrogant kid I know. He completely blows off any advice or criticism and just says some shit like '' We at shaddypantz studio r goin to make the best game we possible can ''
It's so aggravating to watch

please just have some humility and realise the scale of the task you're trying to undertake
and this isn't personal, but air control is far better than your game
i know you're not going to listen to me or anyone else because fuck them right, but i'm going to be making a reminder for 3 years time to tell you 'i told you so'.

there really should be restrictions on the age of facepunch members, but then i realise that there are several hundred people on here that are 16+ and act the same as this guy
If you think your torn now, wait until you put it on greenlight.
Let's just hope that the graphics will be updated, like the devs promised in the E3 trailer
What are you guys talking about? This is gonna be GOTY every year all years.
Steam servers will be overloaded.

I'm sorry. I can't say I haven't felt that way before. I don't really know what to tell people though.
But still, I will try to address complaints. The most common one being. "Learn a programming language and start from there. I know a bit of Javascript and python. I'm learning, don't worry. five years from now and you may see me make something using a proper programming language. But then again, Construct 2 is providing us everything we ever wanted to do for GTPD, and so we are using nonetheless. It isn't a bad engine, it really isn't.
If people want to ask me questions. Or tell me something I could improve on. Please do. But at least try to be friendly.

To be fair, the people who are criticizing you and being harsh have good, valid reasons for it. Nobody here is trying to discourage you from doing what you want to do, we're just speaking honestly about it. That guy was just calling it as he saw it, and he's right. This is more or less a flash game that's going to cost money, and not necessarily a good one. You can make a game that looks objectively better and plays better than this in Flash.
This isn't the kind of game you would ever go public with, in all honesty. It's something you'd keep a secret and use as an experience builder. Unfortunately, that can't happen because you opted to use a simple game engine. Picking a game engine is extremely important. It directly impacts what you want to achieve. Construct 2 seems good and all, but not for what you want to do. The engine dictates the scope of the game. Developing on a simple engine means you'll get a simple game. That's really all there is to it.
Sure, there are exceptions to that, but for your run-of-the-mill "indie" dev, that's how it goes.
What did i honestly expect from a kid in his early teens?
Sorry but seriously. What was i even thinking providing feedback.

Hey, I'm not against you giving feedback, give me a list of thing's for me to add/improve/change which isn't about he game engine(Which I've already talked about), and I will respond, listening to you and replying after putting your ideas into consideration.

-40% tighter graphics
-depth
-fun interesting side missions
-better music
-better gameplay (for real this looks like it plays like ghostbusters on the NES)
and that's about it

Add motion blur, depht of field, mountain dew double xp, bloom, 2 weapon limit, quicktime events, a dramatic storyline, day one dlc, multiplayer massive battles...... to keep it short make the game not suck

One of the core problems about this game is the game engine
I was doing this shit as part of my GCSE course when I was 15. I made games that were as of this quality, if not better, than what you are releasing right now - and I didn't even have any coding experience. I would have never dreamed of even showing anybody other than the exam board these games, let alone raising £800 on kickstarter.
Here's what you should do from now.
o Finish the game, deliver on the kickstarter promises, pray you don't get sued.
o Learn to code in a couple of different languages and continue doing this for years in to the future. Do not even dream of releasing another game for another couple of years unless you release it for free in order to get advice and criticism.
o Once you're competent with coding enough to make a good game with good artwork etc THEN start considering releasing it. Do NOT use crowdfunding.
You're about to waste £800 - consider yourself lucky that it isn't your own money.
Honest advice, if you really do want to dabble in game development, but don't want to be overwhelmed yet in learning a proper coding language like C++, it's better to develop in somewhere a bit more complex than Construct 2. For example the most recent GameMaker Studio which is especially capable and well suited for a 2D game like this, Unity which has relatively easy interface and documentation while being flexible enough for anything you wanna do, or Unreal Engine 4 which has a visual programming creation interface called Blueprints that allows you to get the results you want without having to touch any code, or just a minimal amount. UE4 also has a very affordable monthly subscription plan and you get to keep to use the engine too after the month's pass, as you just need to renew again if you want updates and such.
The knowledge you can gain while working on something more advanced is very valuable, even modding a game will give you more valuable insights and see how coding, texturing or modelling works. It's still advisable to learn code properly but it's okay to get to those with tiny steps.
Another suggestion based on the copyright name stuff, while the phrase grand theft auto itself is a common word and used in police enforcement, plus you might be safe in under fair use for parody and such, you're still using it as a name of a video game, and there's already another video game with that name. Companies are pretty sue happy usually that even the slightest related word of their franchise and will get you in trouble (e.g. King and Candy Crush Saga vs Banner Saga or Elder Scrolls vs Scrolls etc.) There's no harm in renaming it something like Huge Five-Finger Discount Pizza Delivery or sorts.
I do wish you guys still good luck since it's always nice to see someone pursuing their goals, just don't get too ambitious and try to keep a realistic perspective in things.
