He's a slick motherfucker Also a productive motherfucker
I haven't listened to much PT but he just looks like a pretentious hipster to me.
I don't know about hipster, but Steven Wilson has no shortage of pretension. [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] Man, I love Stupid Dream.
Having high standards is a good form of pretentiousness if you ask me :v:

He's pretentious as a philosophy though. He says to make good music you have to be pretentious because if you're not, you might be afraid to take the big steps that you need to take to get to the fantastic music writing. So he's pretentious and I'm fuckin pleased about it
I only just started listening to Porcupine Tree last night. I bought In Absentia, Deadwing and The Incident without even bothering to listen to 30 second samples first. I've heard too much good about them to fuck around with previews. [editline]14th June 2011[/editline] I'm loving it by the way...

I'm thinking of streaming Anesthetize live soon. Now would be agood time to find out how many people are interested and whether or not it would be better to stream the Insurgentes dvd.

Fuck yeah. Steve Wilson. Cool dude.
pic
I see the point you're trying to make but the thread is not about him nor how great he is. Whether or not the person in the picture is good or not.
Update! New music preview and album cover released for new solo album. To me this seems to be like it's going to be quite a popular release. More mainstream, less gasmasky like insurgentes.
I would love to see Porcupine Tree, love how they cover a range of different styles, like easy-going prog with the strummed acoustic guitars, and then heavier rock. He's got a fantastic voice too, which is something quite rare in the prog scene, I think.

I mean, it doesn't matter to me if general public knows about SW's work or not, but it would be nice to see him hit really big with this one, because he deserves it.
Time to revive this thread in the name of some fantastic news: Steven Wilson announces his first solo tour in 'Grace for Drowning'
I'm very happy to announce that following the release of my new solo album "Grace For Drowning" in September, I will be undertaking my first ever solo tour of Europe and North America. For this tour I am very fortunate to have the talents of an extraordinary line up of musicians to perform the music - Marco Minnemann on drums, Nick Beggs on bass, Aziz Ibrahim on guitar, Gary Husband on keyboards, and Theo Travis on flute / sax. And myself (not extraordinary) on vocals, guitars and keyboards. The shows will also include a lot of multimedia and films, material that is being especially prepared by Lasse Hoile as we speak. The music will be drawn from both my solo albums (the newest of which is a double CD, so there is plenty of material to choose from), but please do not come along and shout out for PT songs! The dates will be announced in the next 24 hours or so at www.gracefordrowning.com, but run approximately from mid October to mid November. Please come along if you can, I think these shows are going to be quite an adventure.
It was Steve's birthday yesterday, seems like a reason to bump. Not a good one, but still a reason. Also, GfD has been released and the tour is in swing, so let's talk about that. For the record, Grace for Drowning is an amazing album and you owe it to yourself to listen to it.
Porcupine Tree - Tarquin's Seaweed Farm DOWNLOAD - definitely a great album, recommendable to all PT solid fans and to the "On A Sunday Of Life...." fans, even though I sadly notice that they aren't too many of them.
