Industrial is simpler than metal? Pshaw
...Yes. In every conceivable way, yes. :geno:
They're pretty awesome.
Looks like mallcore to me.
NO WAY is this band metal, no way. It really pisses me off when people go "COS THERE'S ELECTRIC GUITARS AND IT'S ALL HEAVY AND THEY SCREAM AND THEY HAVE GRIMM MAKEUP AND SHIT IT'S METAL" without actually listening to the music and hearing, this is NOT metal. It's industrial, nothing more, nothing less. That music is FAR too simple to be considered any genre of metal.
Not all metal is thrash. :downs: And FYI, not all metal needs to be complex. By definition, metal is simply a genre of music where the songs are written around a guitar riff, the guitars are distorted, and the beats are emphasized/discernable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music Educate yourself. Edit:
Looks like mallcore to me.
Yeah, their music totally looks mallcore, since how a band looks automatically defines thier sound.
Been a long time fan of these guys. And no, they don't look gay. This is the opposite of gay. It's gothic, but not gay. Gay =/= Goth. Deathstars = goth appearnce. Give it a rest. Fuck.
Stop calling them death metal, they're not death metal, they all just came from death metal bands
...Yes. In every conceivable way, yes. :geno:
pshaw
I don't get this music. Why don't they actually sing instead of vomiting and shitting near the microphone.
Hahaha oh wait that was awful
Hahaha oh wait that was awful
The noise they call albums? Yeah, I know.
Oh my god! i didn't know they had a new album coming/out? Fucking sweet!
The noise they call albums? Yeah, I know.

I don't get this music. Why don't they actually sing instead of vomiting and shitting near the microphone.
I hope you never discover death metal. :geno:
You're sitting here bashing these guys about looking the way that they do, using "gay" as an insult. While you're in the other thread praising blessthefall and Escape the Fate? Fuck. You.
HAHAHAHA ZING Edit:
You're sitting here bashing these guys about looking the way that they do, using "gay" as an insult.
The noise they call albums? Yeah, I know.
So do you try to be a musical bigot, or does it just come naturally?
the cat something guy made me think of Johnny Thunders Even though they might not have any link at all with punk rock, they make me think of these guys (and Johnny Thunders is the black haired guy on the right) (awesome protopunk band by the way) anyways, they sound pretty good. I like their style. At least, they assume their androginy and have a real glam style. That's why I respect androgynous bands with make-up, because they assume it and play good music.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music Educate yourself.
I'm sorry about the late reply, but I actually had to lol at you linking to WIKIPEDIA about music genres and telling me to educate myself. Oh, how hilarious. :v No, really. Metal does usually have to be fairly complex, or it simply isn't metal. Due to the musical traits of the genre. Bet you think Slipknot and Korn are metal too, huh? Try again. Nu-Metal is pseudo-metal, it's more like aggressive alt. rock. "Industrial metal" doesn't exist, and Deathstars are not a metal band because they are not complex enough, and they only thing remotely "metal" about them is "OhMyGod DISTORTION GUITARS" and funny makeup. That isn't enough. http://www.metal-archives.com/help.php Educate yourself.

There is no technical requirement to be considered "Metal". There can be "Industrial Metal" as a pseudogenre, but I'm not going to get into whether these guys are or not. You don't have to be complex to be metal. Metal musicians are just the ones pushing the envelope of musical talent today. Let's assume you're right for a second. Black Sabbath is Metal, right? Well, if they're technical enough to be considered Metal, that makes Slipknot metal as well.
I'm sorry about the late reply
It's okay, I forgive you. :)
Let's assume you're right for a second. Black Sabbath is Metal, right? Well, if they're technical enough to be considered Metal, that makes Slipknot metal as well.
What, no. Black Sabbath have much more than binary chords throughout their music. Unlike slipknot, with their constsant "0101010101101001010" on the guitar. Black Sabbath actually have a KEY, and an actual TUNE, and actual CHORDS that aren't just there for the sake of it, they actually have a note and a sound. And besides, there is much more than musical technicality that determined whether a band is metal or not. If you can trace a clear and strong line of bands influence from one to another, and you can lead a band right back to Black Sabbath, it's metal. If you can't, it's not. Nu metal takes SOME influence from metal, but it's distorted and changed and mutilated by heavy rap and R&B influence. Don't tell me Corey's singing in Slipknot isn't rapping most of the time, because it is, it really is if you just listen. Nu metal is simply alternative rock, with R&B and Techno influence, with influence from rap-rock bands and some influence from metal. You need to get past the idea that "brutal = metal" and start listening to what bands are doing musically. I'm not going to go into the very details about why nu-metal and Slipknot are not actually within the metal genre, because you're just not going to listen. www.metal-archives.com is FAR more reliable than Wikipedia, because Metal Archives is run by people that actually know what the fuck they're talking about. People like you who listen to anything that's brutal and assume that "brutal = metal" would go onto Wikipedia and find their favourite bands and "correct" the genres. Metal Archives is based on fact. Wikipedia is based on people like you thinking music genre is a matter of opinion. You only think metal archives isn't a reliable source because you searched all of your favourite "brootal" bands and they weren't up there. That's because, news flash, they're not metal. Accept it. Because there's MUCH more to music genres than "whether it's 'brootal' or not" Brutal and Metal are NOT synonymous. Because music genres can actually be pretty complex, and SOME people do their research. Metal Archives has an EXTREMELY extensive list of metal bands, extremely. I mean they have bands on their which I've NEVER found another person who has even heard of before. A lot of work went into that website, and the people who run it know what they're doing.
And this is why I said Metal is the most stuck up genre if that one guy who asked me why is reading this, there's your answer
And this is why I said Metal is the most stuck up genre if that one guy who asked me why is reading this, there's your answer
Oh, I don't even like metal. Besides Progressive and power. I just know what I'm talking about. Don't tell me you're not also sick of Slipknot fanboys running around trying to show off how brutal their 'metal' music is.
What, no. Black Sabbath have much more than binary chords throughout their music. Unlike slipknot, with their constsant "0101010101101001010"
I'm sorry, I didn't read your wall of text because I couldn't get past the first, ignorant, idiotic, stupid fucking sentence. Don't tell me you're not also sick of Slipknot fanboys running around trying to show off how brutal their 'metal' music is.
Slipknot is not "Brutal"... Never has been, and I've never heard anyone call them that... Stop making stupid assumptions and go away.
Words that hold no signifigance whatsoever. This ISN'T A SLIPKNOT THREAD Also, I think you got the last line a bit backwards. Wikipedia edits are required to remove any bias or opinion on their articles. Every statement they make has to have factual evidence, otherwise the moderators will remove/revert the edit. On the other hand, I'd imagine a site made just for metal and made by metal enthusiasts would be a bit biased towards the bands and their music, because, NEWSFLASH, they like the music. You only think metal archives isn't a reliable source because you searched all of your favourite "brootal" bands and they weren't up there. I don't doubt it. It's almost like metal is AN UNDERGROUND GENRE for the most part. :wooow:
I responded. Also, I thank you for keeping your argument civilized and intelligible, albeit a bit close-minded and ignorant. Not many people who feel so strongly about these things as you do would keep so civil. That merits true respect. I'll show that respect by rating your post friendly. :)
I'm sorry, I didn't read your wall of text because I couldn't get past the first, ignorant, idiotic, stupid fucking sentence.
What's so stupid about it? He's right.
I'm going to ignore the miles off topic shit above me. I like this, but the vocals are way to loud imo, if they just mixed them down a little so they didn't completley overpower the entire song it'd be fine. I could understand it if he was a really fantastic singer, but I'm sure even the people who like this band aren't going to claim he's much above average.
What's so stupid about it? He's right.
No. He is not right. Just because you don't like SlipKnot, and just because they re popular does not mean they just chug away on 1 and 0.

I actually like being able to clearly hear what they say. Vocals and lyrics are a big thing to me when it comes to my music.
Stop turning this thread into a slipknot shit fest, this is about my favorite band Listening to virtue to vice at the moment
These people are masters of the glam, they make other glam bands look like 80 year old hairy men.
Back on topic. I don't actually mind Deathstars, at all. Some of their songs are pretty catchy, which kind-of makes up for the simplicity of the music. But I've not really heard a vast amount of their music anyway.
