Definitely watch it if you haven't already.
While i must admit i'm a bit saddned when people say they straight up hate a book and especially a book as important as animal farm; as long as the reader understands the significance the book has, i'm not as saddned. In your case, you seem to have completely disregarded the significance and meaning of the book as a whole.
I don't like reading in the first place. I cannot gather any enjoyment or amusement from staring at a piece of paper for three hours, the only thing that happens is I get bored as fuck, my eyes hurt, and my head hurts. Add in being forced to read the book? Yeah fuck it. Any meaning that might have been in that book can be found in other media that doesn't bore me to tears. I'm just one of those people that doesn't enjoy books.
Besides, what am I really going to get out of reading a book I absolutely despise when I don't even like reading in the first place?
I dislike Shakespeare for instance and i did something similar where i'd sparknote and cliff note it, but i still read the book and learned about the settings, why the plays were written what they parodied and how the affected the world. However, i did like hamlet quite a lot, i got to read Polonius' parts and had a blast being overly dramatic and self absorbed within my characters mind completely ignoring what was going on and thinking i knew exactly what was going on with Hamlet.
I sort of didn't. I hated Shakespeare too. Knowing why he wrote his plays for someone with the mindset of a five year old does not keep my computer running, and knowing what the hell is going on in Hamlet is not going to convince a smallblock Chevy to run on all eight cylinders.
When it came time to cover Shakespeare in junior English(We didn't read any of it out in Sophomore and Freshmen year we didn't cover it at all) I more or less buried my nose in my math book and caught up on the week's backlog of algebra homework until all the parts were handed out. It worked a treat, teach thought I was in the lit book studying the play instead, so she never called on me to ask what part I'd play :v:
TL;DR: while people might not like a book, don't just go IT WAS AWFUL OH GOD TERRIBLE AND SHIT AND BORING AND LAME AND SUCKY then write if off and never pay it an attention, learn about the book and why it was so widely read.
Funny how personal preferences work, eh?
