I've always wondered. Has "Baphomet" anything to do with this?
I've always wondered. Has "Baphomet" anything to do with this?
Not in this particular case. Baphomet was a larger figure in Alesteir Crowleys philosophy.
It's not completely atheist. It does, yes, rely greatly on atheism, but satan and magic are a part of LaVeyan Satanism. If they wouldn't be, they wouldn't have been introduced by LaVey in the first place.
You don't really know what Satanism is, especially LeVayan satanism. Satan does not mean Satan. It's a euphemism. Magic is also a euphemism. They do not mean the general connotations to those words, and they are not part of LeVayan satanism in that sense.
all of it. but I wouldn't consider that 'LeVeyan' thing as Satanism.
It's just the belief in God yet worshipping/idolizing Satan that sends shivers down my spine.
Except you don't believe in either idea, you're an atheist.
It's also a load of shit.
It's also a load of shit.
How is self empowerment a load of shit? Oh wait, you just didn't read the fucking thread.
erazor lol! Learn to read.
It's all about self empowerment and using the symbols around you for your own purpose and gain.
Symbols are tools there to be utilized by he who sees them for what they are.

Baphomet is used as a symbol and for effective imagery

Worshipping/idolizing anything is pretty unhealthy, LaVeyan Satanism is basically just encouragement of rational and individual thought packaged into a religion
My thought is that LaVey called it Satanism because Satan was a shocking thing back then and therefore a useful tool that would get publicity for the whole philosophy, not much seems to have changed in the way of "hurf a durf you're a satanist so you rape kids" bandwagon retards.
ITT: Satan worshipping people getting mad at people who bring up good points
Satanism seems better than any other religion, but none the less it's still a religion and religion is the worst thing to happen to man kind.

Satan means and doesn't mean Satan itself. It depends on how you look at it.
Satanists don't believe in supernatural forces or in God, nor Satan. Satanist himself is his own god. Satan symbolizes a person who lives according to his carnal nature. The truth behind Satan is simply a dark evolutionary power of entropy, that spreads all around nature and creates the survival and reproductive spent, that are natural for every living being. Satan isn't a councious entity that should be worshipped, more of a powersource that lies inside every being, that you can use. Therefore sacrifises, in every form, are rejected as christian aberration, because in Satanism, there is no deity to whom nothing could be sacrificed.
So a satanist himself could be Satan.

That's what I was getting at. Satan is a euphimism for self empowerment. I've been saying that the whole time. From what I was getting from what you said you were implying satan was a being or an entity Satanists believed in.
mankind is the worst thing to ever happen to mankind
so true bro
it seems like i've being living satanic life all the time.

I was being indistinct, sorry.
1. Satan represents indulgence, instead of abstinence.
2. Satan represents vital existense, instead of spiritual pipe dreams.
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom, instead of hypocritical self-deceit.
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates.
5. Satan represents vengeance, instead of turning the other cheek.
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires.
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual developement," has become the most vicious animal of all.
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental or emotional gratification.
9. Satan has been the best friend the church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years.
Looks pretty right-wing to me.
Looks pretty right-wing to me.
No it doesn't.
Satanist for example don't adhere to a specific moral code or believe in some form of judgement.
Looks pretty right-wing to me.
It really never says anything about not helping or anything to that affect. I have a feeling you're implying that self interest is 1) Right Wing, and 2) Bad. Not so. Satanism doesn't tell you you can't lend a hand, it would probably look down on you if you don't when you have the chance to do so and it costs you nothing. Satanism just wants you to work and live for yourself. If helping others is something you want to do, it fully lets you do so.
I have to admit, some of those rules and commandments in quote blocks in the OP are pretty decent rules to live by, although I definitely don't agree with all of them.
Do the similarities with Satanist Satan and Christian Satan end where they both hold Satan as an entity that exists?
Christian Satan is always shown as this evil guy who lives in a lair full of fire and lava and punishes people who sin. But Satanist Satan seems to be this entity that represents "show respect but don't take shit from people".

In satanism that were talking about here, Satan is a person who lives by his carnal nature. So satanist himself is Satan. In theistic satanism, Satan is an entity.

Why exactly did satanists call themselves satans or satanists?
Why exactly did satanists call themselves satans or satanists?
Because the word Satan is related to the word Lucifur meaning bringer of light, essentially... The people who thought this shit up said "Hey, lets do two things 1) Scare people 2) Have loose symbolism to dead meanings.".

Isn't it spelled Lucifer? Not meaning to be picky. Just caught my eye.
I seem to have been following these rules my entire life.
I don't need a religion to tell me how to live my life. To me satanism seems to be a pretentious label for a common lifestyle.

Yeah so basically satanism is a few guidelines in life and a cool name to make it rebellious
I was actually one of the more prominent poster of the old Satanism subforums.

No, Satanism is a lifestyle. It influences every decision you make on an entirely different level than most religions. It's never the sole reason why you're doing something, but it's always a part of you.

In Satanism, Satan represents the carnal side to man. The side that always ends up becoming the scapegoat for religions. Most religions say that man is an animal, and you have to transcend beyond that to reach perfection, but Satanism says that you're fine the way you are. A savage animal.

Satanists don't believe in Satan as an entity. Read my above reply.
While I understand the logic behind it (most of which is sound), it all seems very regressive and narcissistic. I mean, what good comes out of all this?
