Joining a religion who's sole purpose is to troll another relgion isn't any better than being a typical Christian.
Except that isn't the 'purpose' of Satanism.
satanism is interesting... untill you learn that it's just like christianity. just for misunderstood freaks and people who feel too sorry for themselves all the time.
christianity is for people who wish to see goodness and reasone where none may be.
satanism is for those who are too darn weak to face the hard reallity that you HAVE to ake your own happiness. selfishness will not help you if you don't wield it right.
satanism is just as stupid and failed as other religions. but i would much prefer christianity to it. at least christianity can breed good unselfish people although this is not often. christianity encourages good manners and respect to your next of kin. satanism encourages elbowing your way through the world.
afterlife or no, which is most comfortable on an international plane?
I think people are just being thick now.

You just about got those two backwards. Christianity is for people so weak they need to believe an omnipotent being is watching over them. Satanism is for people who accept that this isn't the case and that this life is the only one we have so we have to make the most of it.

Christianity encourages piousness and serves no purpose other than making yourself seem righteous even when you aren't.

I didn't realize there was any other way TO get through the world.

so from all the posts in this thread, it seems satanism is all about fulfilling one's own selfish desires, without "going too far". it also says to use two kinds of "magic" to manipulate people and to celebrate/rage at something. Seems like a double standard to me. And why call yourself a satanist if you only believe thats its an approach on life, and not an actual title of a religion?
how do you feel that I follow Jesus Christ? Does that offend satanists? Do people think all followers of Jesus scold and "BURN IN HELLZ" people of different beliefs? Because myself and many others I know are very open minded and unconfronting.
this thread is silly. you guys are all silly.
silly.

I guess I could consider myself a satanist. I'm atheist and my "religious" focus is myself.
I don't hate you, you're awesome as far as I know

"Destroy them" is a metaphor. Like everything else.
Except that isn't the 'purpose' of Satanism.
I'd have an easier time of believing that if your relgion wasn't named after the epitome of all that is evil to Christians. Your relgion could have just been named Steveism, and that way you wouldn't have to whine every time someone asks you if you sacrifice animals.

Everything that isn't Christianity itself to a practicing Christian is Satanist or following the wrong path. LaVey was a Christian before and got sick of its hypocrisy, therefore founded his own little clique in direct opposition of Christianity's teachings instead of its god. Christianity is all repression and refusing to see yourself as an animal. Satanism is the opposite, realizing all we are are animals and as a result have desires we shouldn't have to bury.

Satanism is an actual title of a religion.
how do you feel that I follow Jesus Christ? Does that offend satanists?
Honestly, I don't really care one way or another. What you believe is your business, and if I start treating you differently for your religion, it gives you every right to treat me differently for mine.
Do people think all followers of Jesus scold and "BURN IN HELLZ" people of different beliefs? Because myself and many others I know are very open minded and unconfronting.
It's not that we think every Christian is angry and prejudist against Satanists. I have several very good friends who are very Christian. It's just that we know not to expect them to welcome us with open arms.

Except I don't whine when they do. It's called Satanism. I'm expecting them to not understand it completely.
Fuck, I'm hoping for it. Better that they have me explain it to them than someone less informed.
I completely believe with "7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual developement," has become the most vicious animal of all."
I think it's pretty egotistical that most religions put Man as the highest being on Earth, under God but above everything else.
Hell, I feel bad for killing snails accidentally.
LaVey was a Christian before and got sick of its hypocrisy, therefore founded his own little clique in direct opposition of Christianity's teachings instead of its god.
I'm relatively sure no. LaVey may have played the organ during sermons, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't a Christian.

Satanism is about making yourself strong, self reliance, self empowerment, hedonism. It has specific rules around it and will not let you hurt others needlessly. Magic, euphemism for self power again. No manipulation of others is actually part of it. It's a philosophy, not a religion.
And no one cares that you believe in Jesus. We just see you as weak and in need of power from someone else where we are our own source of power.
Satanism is about making yourself strong, self reliance, self empowerment, hedonism. It has specific rules around it and will not let you hurt others needlessly.
No, you can hurt people needlessly. It just isn't good.
"When a Satanist commits a wrong, he realizes that it is natural to make a mistake - And if he is truly sorry about what he has done, he will learn from it and take care not to do the same thing again."
Page 41 of the Satanic Bible.
No manipulation of others is actually part of it.
"Magic falls into two categories, ritual or ceremonial and non-ritual or manipulative."
Page 111 of the Satanic Bible.
And yes it is a religion.

Yeah, but who takes the "magic" part of it seriously? I don't know a single Satanist who takes that seriously.
Yeah, but who takes the "magic" part of it seriously? I don't know a single Satanist who takes that seriously.
If you thought Anton LaVey honestly meant magic, you weren't reading very well.
And if you didn't bother to take the section seriously, then you pretty much threw out a third of the book.
And if you throw out such a large section of the book, then you might as well ditch the title of Satanist. LaVey didn't want Satanists who nitpicked out the parts of the Satanic Bible that they didn't like. He intended for Satanists to agree with the book in its entirety.

Fair enough. I didn't think he meant actual magic either, but that's still a part of it that throws most people off and what not. I haven't read it in a few years so to be honest, my memory of it isn't very good anymore.
Did Lavey spec fire or frost? I heard arcane is bad

Arcane isn't that bad.

Can't say for fact myself, I haven't read his history in a while but I recall something priest and carnival related.

He played the Organ for tent revivals on Sundays and for the carnival on Saturdays, and he would commonly see men lusting after girls on Saturday night and praying for forgiveness the next morning, even though they would continue the process again the next Saturday night.

Satanic values are in direct opposition to Christian values, so why not name it something anti-Christian? It makes perfect sense if you think about it for a minute instead of just assuming the whole thing is based on shock value.
Christians sure say that a lot, too.
Every religion will have morons who misinterpret it.

But then we're all the anti-Christ.
I think it's kinda stupid, I mean, if there is a God, theoretically he's the good guy, right? Why fuck up your eternal happiness that was promised to you?
But then we're all the anti-Christ.
"Anti-Christian" doesn't have anything to do with "the anti-Christ". The latter is a pseudonym for the Christian devil.
I was referring to Satanists being in opposition to Christian values.
if there is a God, theoretically he's the good guy, right?
Most, anyways. I quite like being nice to my neighbors.
What I find hilarious is that they believe in something openly imagined up by the Christian church to keep their membership up. I mean Christians can still make some kind of argument no matter how stupid, these guys can uh, hiss at you or pretend to cast avada kadabra or something.
