For some reason my mom is celebrating Chanukah. I just want to celebrate christmas like a normal person. :frown:
That is puzzling. Tell me... are you perhaps Jewish?
I lit a napkin on fire with the shamash. I don't think that's how you're supposed to do it. [editline]2nd December 2010[/editline] Also it's my mom's birthday today too, which lined up pretty nicely.
Christians ripped off a lot of Pagan holidays including Christmas in order to make it more appealing to people.
No, all the church did is change the date to a popular pagan holiday in order to get new converts to be able to celebrate the holiday without changing their culture too much. To this day there is nothing in church doctrine about gifts, Santa, or anything popularize with "Christmas". The real Christmas is celebrating Jesus' birth, but it has become much more than that.
So today, December first, marks the first day of Chanukah(Also known as Hanukkah) Chanukah is the Jewish version of Christmas basically, except it's spread out over 8 days. The story goes that in the days of old (1000+ BCE) Moses was inside a temple and they only had a little bit of oil (only enough for a day) and needed to make that oil last for 8 days. A miracle happened, and the flame that was lit kept burning for 8 straight days. Rate agree if you are Jewish and celebrate Chanukah. Discuss.
Hahah are you dumb Moses wasn't in the temple unless he lived for 400 years
christmas was here hannukah is a fag
Eight days? Yule is 12, bitch.
Merry Chri---Oh wait, Jews are around, we must be sensitive to them! Happy Holidays!
Merry Hanukkah! I am a semite Atheist, and I celebrate Hanukkah.
