Is the Australian education system that good, my teachers are always going on about how we strive to have the best education system but I'm not too sure.

nah we strive to be mediocre.
When looking at the great wikipedia machine, Australia is on par as the highest quality of education along with Finland, Denmark and New Zealand.
In terms of scoring we're also pretty high, not the highest in any of them by a long shot, but comparitivly, with our small population we're doing pretty well.

There's stuff that I'm doing in first year uni now that we were starting to touch on in second year high school back in Scotland.
One of my chem lecturers comes from England and said the same thing: it's WAAAAY too easy and relaxed here.

That's because first year is usually just a recap, to ensure everyone is on the same page, its going on with me as well, I already know a fair bit of middle eastern history, but once you get into 2nd/3rd/honours you tend to specialise.
But of course I'm going to take your view over two well known studies taken by OECD

I realise that a lot of it is just revision of what we already did in high school, but that stuff that we're revising, the stuff I was starting in the UK before I moved here? We didn't start that shit until the last two or so years of high school in Australia. And even then, it wasn't in depth.
And before you ask: I was in a public school both here, and back in the UK.

So are private schools, there was essentially no discrepancy in score between people at my school which was a public school of about 500 students and Wesley or Xavier according to that ranking thing.
