I have my first interview pretty soon, they called me on friday but I was at school so I'm going to call them back tomorrow I have to go to another interview after that, and if I pass I'm in. Gonna mull it over for a while and do some research so the interview goes according to plan [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
Do you have to finish a degree or are you going straight into officer entry?
I'm fairly sure if you want to be an officer you have to complete a degree, you can do up to two
Be an officer, better pay and you get to boss people around. Plus there's more openings because everyone wants to shoot stuff but no-one wants to take responsibility. Also for me when I was looking at Engineering, they said to go for Air Force first, Navy second and Army third in ranking for good hours. Air Force you're back by tea time, Navy you're on a ship for a few months and Army you're stationed overseas for bloody ages. Although I guess if you want to be a shooty guy then you don't have a choice. Hope you're in good physical and mental condition.

there is still time to change my choices, the only reason I applied (and it was for gap year btw) was because there was a limited window of opportunity, so if I decide it's not for me I can put a stop to it before it's too late. I was looking at applying to go to the defense uni straight away, but I think it's a massive life choice to make straight away

It's a good thing we haven't implemented a tax on cigarettes yet!
''The way smoking trends are going, it's not unrealistic to think that we should see an end to the commercial sale of cigarettes within 10 to 15 years.''
The trend line is down! It cannot possibly smooth out! Well, at least this is an independent researcher with no bias. Oh, wait, he's a leading anti-tobacco campaigner. Chop chop is already pretty tempting.
the removal of additives that make cigarettes more palatable.
I support this, however.
God damn, people really go fucking crazy when it comes to cigarettes. I'm of the opinion that people should be allowed to fuck themselves up if they want as long as they don't do anything to others. That being said, I'm in favour of banning of advertisement for cigarettes because actively encouraging people to pay (people that wouldn't have done so otherwise) for a shortened life is pretty fucked. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean 4 and it was pretty shitty.
Chop chop is already pretty tempting.
exactly. licensing will solve nothgin
http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/now-butt-out-new-push-seeks-to-outlaw-cigarettes-20110521-1ey2s.html LOL ''The government should consider issuing smokers with a licence to smoke, which would involve them passing a test, not dissimilar to a driving test,'' Professor Chapman said.

''They would get a swipe card with their photo on it and - just like the pre-commitment gambling card - they could say how much they wanted to smoke a day. If it was 10 cigarettes a day you'd get a category one licence, 20 cigarettes would be a category two and there would be a higher cost to the card if you wanted to smoke more. The most anyone could buy would be 60 a day.'
With a maximum of 60 a day, what about those people who buy a whole carton and they keep that for a week or two? It's terribly silly to pay for someone to buy a license to kill themselves. Many can hardly afford to buy the cigarettes as it is.
That is the stupidest most retarded fucking idea I have ever heard [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] Fucking money hungry government
If the government wants money they should legalize weed, they would make a killing of that.
If the government wants money they should legalize weed, they would make a killing of that.
That's a horrible idea, that would ruin Australia imo
If the government wants money they should legalize weed, they would make a killing of that.
The usage in the last 12 months are about the same as smoking, from memory (if smoking is around 15%). [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline]
That's a horrible idea, that would ruin Australia imo
Why is that? A bit more than a third of all Australians try it, yet few use it on a frequent basis. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] NB: frequent basis is weekly to biweekly. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] In part because a quite a few baby boomers are dying, the cannabis usage rates are going down.
I dislike smoking in general, a mate in my form used to smoke and he would come to class smelling like smoke. Not to mention when I go to the station you see rats smoking.
I dislike smoking in general, a mate in my form used to smoke and he would come to class smelling like smoke. Not to mention when I go to the station you see rats smoking.
I don't like station rats getting drunk at stations, but that doesn't mean I'm going to ban alcohol. As long as it is not significantly harming anyone (which is why I support no-smoking in workplaces/indoors), leave the law out of it.
I never said to ban smoking I was just stating my hate of station rats. They are 15/16/17 year olds who hang at the station and fuck shit up thinking they are tough because they own a gang. There is a gang called ART in my area of suburbs that is run by a 15 year old. To get in it he has to punch you in the face, shoulder and some other place. THATS how tough it is.
I dunno what removal of additives would do. Probably taste really different, maybe be better or worse, can't say.
That's a horrible idea, that would ruin Australia imo
For me I never smoke nor take drugs including weed. But I see so many more benefits to it if they legalize it. - Will have a major impact on illegal drug trafficking + gangs. - Will protect more people, because the government will be in charge of it. - Give the government shit loads of cash. - Probably give more people education and understand of it. - Probably protect Kids from dangerous use and other drugs. But to be honest we hardly have the amount to take correct action. Also parents.
The license thing wont stop me from smoking. and while that chop chop crap is poorly flavoured, its a hell of lot cheaper than commerical ciggarettes.
I dunno what removal of additives would do. Probably taste really different, maybe be better or worse, can't say.
Taste worse, possibly less addictive and probably less harmful. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] I mean, c'mon Australia, we're a great big island just below the massive cigarette producing country of Indonesia. Good job policing that.
Having smoked pure tobacco, it tastes a hell of a lot different to rolled and pre packaged ciggarettes. Most of the flavouring like sugars and chocolate (i know lol) are to make it less harsh, those weird additives including the nicotine naturally found in tobacco are the reasons people get addicted.
