Half-Life 3 has such memetic hype at this point that they probably COULD do that and make billions of dollars just the same.
I don't understand the logic behind "no one cares about HL3 anymore."
My fucking ass, as soon as it's announced the people saying that are going to go just as apeshit as everyone else. It's going to front page on Kotaku, IGN, Gameinformer, PCGamer, every single big videogame media site will feature it. It's going to be on the front page of Steam, where even if someone somehow doesn't know what HL3 is, a bigass advertisement on the home page of steam will attract their attention. Cross promotion TF2 and Dota 2 cosmetics drawing in even more sales and attention just from item queens.

I'm honestly just worried that VALVe has either lost the will to make singleplayer games, forgotten how to make a good one, or both. Between Steam and their booming cosmetic stores, they have ZERO need to make a singleplayer game, as a business.
Also friendly reminder that every time you buy like ten games that you don't really want but are great deals or buy a stupid hat for 5 bucks with the thought "it's just one purchase" you're contributing to this. Same mindset that causes half of the populace to not vote during election season. Your vote DOES count, be it by ballot or wallet.
I just want it to show up on Steam some day.
