That's an incredibly stupid argument My stance might be stupid too but god damn I don't have a problem with progression but this oversimplification will result in backpedaling
The only problem I have with it is if the oversimplifcation becomes a serious problem to more advanced users.
There's a difference between simple and too simple and you're missing it
Quit while you're behind... Please.
Quit while you're behind... Please.
What is your argument even based on? That it's profitable to keep people stupid?
There's a difference between simple and too simple and you're missing it
what is wrong with something being too simple it makes things easier no it doesn't make you a dumbass
My technology teacher was amazed when I used the task manager to end a task that was slowing down the computer. She was determined that the only way to fix it was to unplug the computer and call technicians down to repair the issue, and when I showed her the task manager she didn't believe it at first and made me show it to her again.
It's not really their fault for being ignorant to these things.. If they're too old, they weren't born with computers. And, how does that example have to do with over-simplified interfaces?
I disagree. Simplifying interfaces makes information a lot easier to gather. Your example of your teacher not knowing task manager wasn't caused by an an oversimplified interface, she just was ignorant to the fact that when you press specific keys together you get a handy(simple) interface where you can stop applications from running. Sure, it's great to know how to use complicated interfaces for a lot of things(complexity often brings you more power to customize shit to your liking), but don't cry because people choose to use something simple and easy that gets a task done.
What is your argument even based on? That it's profitable to keep people stupid?
why do people (who don't specialize in that particular field) have to know how things work to use them
what is wrong with something being too simple it makes things easier no it doesn't make you a dumbass
Look at the world around you. :geno:
What is your argument even based on? That it's profitable to keep people stupid?
Computers back in the day weren't as user friendly compared to now. We should be glad that such user friendly interfaces and features are avaliable to us. It's kinda like a luxury people today take for granted.
Look at the world around you. :geno:
i see successful people, i see dumb people, i see people like you who apparently know everything and are too good for anyone
What is your argument even based on? That it's profitable to keep people stupid?
That you think you're better than people because they appreciate the convenience of a simplified interface. God forbid we make the internet the least bit enjoyable! Like I said before, get off your high horse.

The issue with this is that my TECHNOLOGY teacher didn't know about ctrl+alt+del.

OP move to a cave, I'll check on your condition in a month if still breathing. And if not, I will walk back to a modern house with modern appliances for the modern lifestyle, we did not go through the technological advances we did to go backwards.

Heres one, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, or Alt+F4 [editline]01:42AM[/editline]
Then why are we going backwards?
We aren't, you are. Simplification is perfected over the years.
My high horse is a bit too tall, can you help me find my step stool Oh here it is -IMAGE SNIP-
What is wrong with that? It is clean, efficient, and simple. I don't need a bunch of bulky extra shit to weigh me down, especially for music. Sure sometimes I would like extra features, but for the most part a simplified interface lets me know what is going on without making shit so complicated that I have to search through 50 different screens and buttons. [editline]06:43AM[/editline]
Then why are we going backwards?
What do you mean going backwards?
This thread didn't work at all. I think it's my poorly worded OP and my poor choice of words in general. Oh well. It was worth a try.
Sometimes the harder way has more options. I like the overly complicated way sometimes as a back checker, making things simple sometimes leads to mistakes. This is in all general speaking
Sometimes the harder way has more options. I like the overly complicated way sometimes as a back checker, making things simple sometimes leads to mistakes. This is in all general speaking
It does, and it often leads to you not being able to customize and use the interface to full potential. However for the most part something simple gets me by without much problem.

Wahh wahh I'm a nerd and people aren't as tech savvy as I am so I'm just going to complain about it wahh wahhh
Look at the world around you. :geno:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downing_effect
Auto correcting on word processors and search engines has stopped a lot of people from learning how to spell because they can spell a word wrong continuously and never actually realize. So when they write with something without an autocorrect or spell checker (not as bad because you see the mistake), their spelling is terrible. It's like if you had always used one of these to walk: Then if it gets taken away, you wouldn't be able to walk but if you had always been walking without it, you wouldn't need to rely on it. Although simplified interfaces are good because you can get things done quicker, it does cut out knowledge and experience that you would've gained if you had to do something more manually and this is a bad thing.
Windowses
What are you rambling about? On a serious note I think you're just focusing primarily on the instances where dumb people don't know how to do a certain thing because they were either never taught or they simply don't care.

Best phone I've ever had.
I've had to explain to my father-in-law ten times how to click and drag MP3s into Windows Media Player and then click "Burn Playlist." He still doesn't get it. I've visually shown it to him and he's had a computer for two years now.
