It's basically the nectar of the gods. It's milk/cream with egg (to thicken it), sugar and spices in it. A lot of eggnog recipes call for rum/brandy/bourbon/some other alcohol.
I feel sorry for you Europeans. It tastes so good.

I usually chug down brandy custard because that shit is cheap as hell and tastes awesome. Then after christmas it's like $1 a carton so you can buy like infinite supplies.
