Automotive Addicts Lounge V4 - Lube my pistons, baby

I found a 1987 Monte Carlo SS (Maroon with the red pinstripe/logo on the sides, T-Tops) for sale near my house. Looks like it might even be my dad's old Monte. Lot of the stuff matches up. It's in fantastic condition, no rust on the underside, all new tubing and gaskets in the motor, tires look good, etc. 7,500 is what they're asking. Is this a decent deal?
I actually want to know what car that is at the very end.
Nissan Versa
I really really want this car, but part of me tells me I really really shouldn't do it.

I keep waiting for the picture of the car itself to load in properly but it won't :disgust:
Yeah there's so much jpeg that it might cover any imperfections that might be there.
That's genius, actually. Say goodbye to bondo - and hello to jpeg
All we have to do is compress the shit out of our damaged cars.
Which one's yours?
Red one in the back row, all the way at the far end

That was pretty awesome! I'd love to have a cheap beater for a couple hundred bucks that I could just do insanely stupid shit in.

Well, I did it.
Japaneseclassics.com has always been on a pedestal to me. They're the coolest thing in the whole world to a guy in the US who likes JDM cars and I always said "I wish I could work there.. but why would they want to even talk to a kid like me?"
I see it a lot as a 12v installer.. "y'all hirin?? I sure like subs and compacitators!" and I roll my eyes. I didn't want to come off like that.
But either way I sucked it up and emailed them. I didn't go into deep detail trying to sound all stuck up or like up the best mechanic in the world, but I hope I captured just how much I love JDM cars, Japanese culture, and that I'm a competent mechanic in general, all without sounding too wishy washy.
I sure hope I get an email back. Oh my God to work there I think might be a dream come true. I'd imagine there's 1000 others like me, though. We'll see. It's a first step that I've been too scared to take until now.. but I did it!
Welp, got another 300zx! This time a 2 seater!

I apologize for the edited photos [I know you guys hate them (But it hides the rust!) ] I didn't take them, roomate did, I do like the family photo one cause my hood looks chrome, but I had just enough time to drop the white one off and go to work and just got home, he decided to wash them (White one was filthy, sat under a tree for 5 months) so I was quite thankful for that. The white one is a roller, body is in much better condition and it's a two seater. Anyways, I'm excited!
I lost my trusty volvo to a moose last night.
Me and my friend made it out with only a few scratches, but I'm thinking it was a damn blessing we were in a volvo.

I dunno what's gonna happen to it, It needs a new roof, bonnet, fender and windscreen as well as other small bits. The type of insurance it has doesn't cover the damage.
It moves just fine though and I drove it home today. A part of me really wants to restore it.
Yeah, no, that's a complete write-off. You might (MIGHT) be able to get the roof looking good again, but it will never have the same structural integrity, and the frame might be bent. Just start picking out and selling parts, then send the body to the wreckers.
I can fix it....
But then again, I do that as work :v:
In other news, a two weeks old Ford Focus with 427km on the clock came in on thursday. The front is completely fucked after the owner accidetally rammed someone in the back.

Can't really see the driver's pillar, but he can replace the entire roof for cheap. If it's anything like a Subaru, you can reskin it fairly simple.
It's not too bad if the driver's pillar is good.

There's always some beams going across the front of the roof which is definitely badly bent on his car which needs replacing too.

Yeah replacing the roof is what I had in mind too. But yeah either way I'm probably gonna be looking for a new car.

It's definitely gonna be a lot more work than just replacing the roof.
I work as an auto body mechanic. I do this daily.
Signing up with Uber today. Hopefully I can finally put my barge to use.
So... Would it be stupid of me to buy a 97 Celica which needs new doors? Everything else is supposed to be in great condition though.

grab the sawzall, cut all the pillars, and make a convertible volvo with little bitty racing windshield

Then I'd jack it up, remove doors and weld a thick-walled pipe between upper hinge for each door, and the latch for each door.

So they told me the only reason I failed the inspection was because my rear tires were just on the wrong side of bald. Fair enough, I went and got new ones and came back, then they told me "We don't accept Crown Victorias because they look like cop cars." WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU FUCKS?! Now I'm $300 down and a few hours wasted for my trouble.
Fuck painting. Hours and hours of work, and it still looks like absolute crap. I think I'll stick to interior and mechanical work from now on.

So I visited a local small tuner car-meet today with some mates and took some pictures of the odd ones. There was an overload of loud Honda's, including a surprising amount of imported Type-R's. There was also this GTR that showed up, which was pretty nice.

The purple car on the second-last picture with the big turbo is a E30 that makes 912hp.

It's the General Maintenance.
Test drove the Fiesta ST today! Fuck that was a nice test drive, even despite my rough manual driving.
I got pretty close to buying the fucking thing too. Got to the point where we were talking price and financing. The sales guy at the dealership kept pulling shit, the financing guy kept trying to upsell like crazy. From what they were telling me, the invoice price was $2000 less than MSRP and they were only going to knock $1000 off, while forcing me to take like, $500 in bullshit "Identity theft protection" and security etching, without budging on those, saying so far as "If we take them off, we'll bump the price back up".
I was getting super stressed out and just called the whole thing off. If they had kept the bullshit to a minimum, I probably would have driven the thing home on Monday.
I ended up stopping by a Mazda dealership and test drove a Mazda 3 Sport GT, which was similar in price to the Fiesta ST. It was decently quick and I feel like there's a lot more little features on the Mazda that made it attractive... But it wasn't as fun.
Regardless, I think I'll try to buy at home, instead of being stuck in Ottawa, 5 hours away. Fuck, I might even just look at vehicles I could pay cash for to avoid all that stress.
Datsun service manuals tell you to torque bolts to snap

I did it that day and didn't die. Only took 8 hrs for my first remote start and keyless entry install
Took another purty picture of the 750 today:

Fuck no it wouldn't be; provided you can get doors. It will be slow, but it will be fun and not break if you keep up with maintenance. Source: Owned a '95 for 13 fucking years. Will buy a GT-FOUR of that vintage in a couple years when I can import it.
