TIL: 2016 cars worth $30k CAD cost more to insure than a 2004 Cavalier worth about as much as a pocket full of lint and old receipts. $2639 for a Mazda 3 Sport GT and $2660 for a Fiesta ST. I was able to knock off some when playing around with the calculator online, bumping up the deductible and ditching stuff like roadside assistance would save a couple hundred bucks a year off those quotes. I'm 22 and have zero accidents or issues with my driving record. I need to phone around for better deals, fuck.
Bought myself an E36 318ti for my birthday. I've always said the compacts are ugly as fuck but I was so fucking sold after just throwing four wheels into the back and having a Shitton of space left. The additional 40 ponies were a nice bonus. It's also automatic so driving it is just pure relaxation, I can really appreciate that. But i dont know alot about automatics, so am I wearing anything out when I'm stopped on the brakes at an intersection? My friend said it wears the transmission, and he always puts it in neutral, but IMHO that sounds like a retarded design, couldn't it just disconnect?

That's literally the entire reason they exist. It's not anything at all to worry about.

Damn that's some space-age shit right there. Next up, is fiberglass the best filler? How does it react to weather and how does it wear? And uh.. if a small patch is rusted through, and if I won't be able to weld it at work, would it be possible to patch it with fiberglass? Cause I'd rather get rid of the rust instead of pretending it's not there...
if I had a steel-bodied car I would prefer to patch with steel, always. Lead works too if you can find someone who knows how to do it, kind of an arcane art these days.

If you can't weld it look into panel bond. I've been doing some experiments lately back patching stuff.. on the Audi I painted and fixed rust on I didn't touch the welder once. I held all my patches in with panel bond.. prepped and sealed the metal of the car inside and out, plus the patches inside and out, so in theory now they won't have welds to rust from the inside out. Kinda like this;
I can overtake just fine tyvm [editline]1st June 2016[/editline] Probably my 3.55 rear end though
I can overtake fine at 65+ because it kicks down into 2nd at ~3000 RPM there. From 45-60 though I'm still only kicking down into 2nd but at 2000 RPM where there is NO power on the civilian version. Fuckin' 2.73's.
I used to have an 05 malibu that I crammed a turbo on that could overtake at 100 miles per hour like it was nothing needless to say it put a rod through the block

You have to cut it away and weld in some new metal or it's just going to continue rusting.
I was able to get my little IQ up to 100mph on the highway. I know that's probably not impressive to you guys with your massive manly cars, but for my tiny little car to do that, I was impressed. I feel like I could reliably get out of the way if a semi was bearing down on me. And it felt safe, pretty normal at those speeds. Overall the IQ is very fun and I would recommend it to anyone who can live with the choice between a back seat or a trunk, not both at the same time, which is quite a lot of people, I think. I believe that the commercial failure of the IQ in america was only because of poor marketing.
I'd drive a microcar if they weren't so ugly
i like to think of my iq as very handsome thank you it's like a pug, in that it's retarded looking and that's why i like it

However, you could also buy a Fit, Yaris, Versa(puke), Fiesta or a used step up of any of those for the same price. Microcars really only make sense in space limited areas or in countries which give you vast tax exemptions or other emissions/inspections/registration related deals for a much smaller vehicle. If they sold for 9,999 as a MSRP you'd bet they'd absolutely fly off the lots and get vast praise. However, the average buyer won't ever see the practicality of a iQ over a Versa which really there isn't a ton other than not being a shitty cheap Nissan.
It probably should have been branded a Toyota. And the sticker price was retarded, absolutely. 10k new (maybe with a manual 5 speed option), and these would fly off the shelves. But, they didn't do that, and that's good for me, as these failings worked in my favor and allowed me to pick up a used one for thousands of dollars less than the similar fit, versa, or yaris options, with way less miles than those options, and in test driving them, the IQ actually feels a lot better to drive than those options. I test drove a mirage too and boy do I like my IQ way better than that mirage. basically if you're going to get a cheap car and you can deal with having only two thirds of a car then this is the car for you for sure because it's a shit ton better than a mirage or a versa
yeah the biggest issue with microcars is definitely the pricing. they start at $16000. you know what I could buy for that kind of money? for another $1000 I could have a brand new corolla [editline]2nd June 2016[/editline] if they'd sell kei cars in the US I'd be all over that. like an early '90s daihatsu mira would be rad as hell [editline]2nd June 2016[/editline] a brand new mira is under 7 grand new in US prices too, why don't they bring them over? [editline]2nd June 2016[/editline] an early '90s model in good condition would be like $300 tops

Those have much smaller engines. It also astounds me that since sedans overall are more popular than hatchbacks here that we don't see the City badged as either a City or a Fit Sedan here.
$16k buys a hell of a lot of used car too
$16k buys a hell of a lot of used car too
for used cars that's classic rolls royce money

Really surprised someone hasn't really tried to run a used kei car dealer. You could even monopolize on working on them since no one has ever seen them over here and parts would be custom order.

I could have bought a used leaf with similar mileage at around the same price. but fuck, less than 100 mile range, though. I couldn't do it. There apparently is an electric version of the IQ, but I didn't see one available on the market when shopping IQs. The american Scion IQ being an uncommon thing already, the electric one is practically a unicorn. But it only goes 50 miles on a charge. what the fuck do they expect you to do with that. they need to reintroduce the IQ as a Toyota in the american market, and strip it down of any luxury besides the bare minimum, and sell it as the entry level <$10k car. or just start selling kei cars because yeah that's really what I want, this is just the closest thing I could get that is still also a regular car.

Decided to buy a new dashcam after my NextBase 402G shit the bed. Records pretty decent quality and the package included two cameras, one in front and one in the rear. Works perfectly well and there's this cool app where you can update the firmware and view recordings. Anyone else here have it? It's called the Blackvue DR650GW 2ch. Also I can't wait for the new Facepunch 2.0 forum thing - we can finally have the AA section back :D
So Pent is looking for a place to live, cuz housing is unaffordable and he'd rather not pay rent the rest of his life. He's been watching this 1976 Ford Vanguard that's been stored up a ravine for the last 15 years or so. By no means is it in excellent shape. Some of the fixtures and furniture inside are either removed or too badly damaged to be reused. It looks like they stripped out the bathroom and replaced it with an extra place to put a bed. There's also an ultimate redneck mod where they have cut a hole in the side and fit a window air conditioner. Oddly enough the onboard inverter is rated to handle a small AC and there's a junction box next to the vent in the kitchen. :v: RV stuff It looks worse than it really is. A bit of work in a woodshop and I'd have the bathroom repartitioned and the table rebuilt in no time. Other than what sounds like a REALLY bad mouse problem (we could hear them moving around in the ceiling, so that will probably need to come down to be cleaned and restuffed) all the other major components are still there. Plumbing, furnace, water heater, fridge, inverter, all the wiring and the engine. The frame though it has one spot where the outside sheet metal was punctured by a fallen tree is holding its integrity and does not leak. My only concerns otherwise are the tires are all dead, the engine has not been cranked in year and most important is it runs on propane. Underneath are two large tanks separate from the tank for the furnace/water heater/fridge which the driver can switch between for double the range. The problem is the tags show it was last certified almost 20 years ago so Transport Canada won't let them be used again so they'll have to be replaced. I have never owned or driven a car that ran on Propane. Do most gas stations still offer that? I'm trying to figure out what kind of a number I should offer. Factoring in the cost for the refurbishment and the cost to have it towed about 25km back home for the work an no additional costs like insurance or engine work I kinda don't want to offer more than $1000 cash. I just can't see it being worth more than that in its current condition. Do you?
My friend bought a caravan in terrible shape last year, plan was to strip the insides and clean out the mold and stuff. Plans change though.. Well, the Acura RSX finally reached the point of costing too much to fix. It has a rusted out roof that leaks water, and the AC compressor is shot. As well as a bunch of body damage from 3 accidents. So I got a good deal on a 2014 Ford Fiesta hatchback. It's not the ST model since I'm not car enough to drive stick, also I'm trying to keep things cheap. And holy shit, I love it! It handles a lot like my RSX and is super fun to drive. I lost 40 HP from the switch but I don't even notice, thing is zippy. I sort of want to modify it a bit, but I don't know where to start. The wheels are a bit ugly I guess. Also I need to figure out how and how much to sell my RSX for.

The closest mass-produced things we have here is the Nash Metropolitan and Crosleys. While those are awesome little cars, I want more options!
