Automotive Addicts Lounge V4 - Lube my pistons, baby

Been quite a while since I posted here. Must've been about a year ago.
I was T-boned by a Volvo at an intersection, luckily the insurance covered all the repair costs and left me a bit extra, which I've used to buy some coilovers.
In a year I got a new clutch, TR Lane rollbar and new wheels with a proper alignment.
I'm planning on going to the track in the near future.

I've owned my Miata now for more than 2 years, and I'm still loving every bit of it, still daily driving it.
Mmm love that late 90's body. We used to have one in that blue-green iridescent.
do you guys have any tips for a new driver? :o
Follow far enough behind people to be able to see an accident happen up ahead, rather than being involved in it - this is a simple, no-nonsense way of avoiding collision. In order to do this, though, you'll have to maybe go a little slower. Maybe go the speed limit when everyone else is a few over. And for that, you'll need to be more responsible, you'll need to leave earlier, be prepared (keep the tank full), and have a plan already laid out before you leave. I don't mean you need documentation or anything, I just mean, know where you're going ahead of time. this leads to less erratic decision making on the road. And having plenty of time to get there is crucial.

Yeah I love that body too. My friend's mom had a red one when we were in school and I accidentally got bounced out of it cuz we were acting dumb and I got drug along the road a short distance before I remembered to let go. At low speed and in a parking lot, but it still scared me.
wal mart carries perfectly fine tires, it's just that the staff is stupid
The tires I bought from Walmart are the best I have ever had.
They do better in the snow than any snow tires I have tried, but the grip and handling on tar is better than any other tire I have tried. Not as quiet as some of the summer tires, but it's a good tradeoff.
Ah Walmart.. The land of "if we change your oil this car will have to leave on a flatbed because XYZ is broken"... I've heard people I know go there when traveling and hear that more than once... Ignorance or laziness?? Either way it's alarming..
Greased the hell out of my window and swapped the glass again back to one less scratched, rolls up and down perfectly now. Snapped off the outside door lock rod, and lubed up all the rods.
Reassembled the door panel and threw my trims and wipers back on, got my girlfriend to clean the interior and I also swapped the shifter out for one that's been cut down from an Integra. Apparently the shift forks are tighter/shorter than a B series, so the stock Integra shifter works perfectly as a tighter OEM style shifter just a hair shorter than an Integra. This transmission feels stupid tight for something with 185k.
As a side note, fuck lawn mowers. The stupid fucking thing refuses to start. It's got air coming through a fresh filter, it's got fuel coming from a freshly rebuilt carb, and it's got a strong spark through a new plug and I can't get it to fire more than once or twice then it just gives up and dies.
Take the fuel cap off...
no really, its that stupid. At least thats what I learnt from my grandpa. I was trying to start a water pump at work, after 10 minutes of yanking on it and tellin him hes crazy he struts over, unscrews the fuel cap, and it works like a damn.
Something to do with vacuum and the fuel, idk. Give it a shot. If its not that it could be a low oil sensor
First mistake was buying tires from Walmart regardless of price
That's like saying something from eBay is garbage. They're just a retailer, they're not producing the items.
That's like saying something from eBay is garbage. They're just a retailer, they're not producing the items.
Actually Walmart usually goes to the manufacturer and asks them to produce cheaper versions of their items specially for their stores or to sell them the lower rated QC stuff in large quantities for a cheaper price.
Well today was quite a disaster, I had a race today. Qualifying + 2 races.
Race 1, in the third last corner of the last lap my rear tire blew. (Was a brand new tire)
Race 2, Got fucking T-Boned in a very very sharp 90 degree corner, didn't have gopro's on at the time.
The pro's, the guy went straight into my rear rim. So there's no bodywork damage really.
The bad, the entire rear suspension, axle, rims, differential is fucked.
Still had fun tho

Well Race-control confirmed the other guy was 100% at fault, still. He's not obligated to do fuck all. (As he still thinks he's in his right)
His story boils down to "you should have gave me room". While he torpedoed me on the raceline.

I know there's trackday insurance, isn't there racing insurance :v:?
That sounds like a bit of a big pain though, sorry you got the worst from the racing Gods that day.
If it makes you feel better, I think of you every time I play Zandvoort in Assetto Corsa.

Buying from eBay is buyer beware. Buying from Walmart is just bad.

Welp. All I have to say is give back to him. Leave a dead animal in his car during a race event.

I personally love my walmart only tires.
90$ Each for M/T type tires in 31x10.50xr15LT yes plz.

I work in the auto center at Walmart, I have actually never seen this or anything like it said.
If anything, it's the managers wanting us to bring stuff in with a faulty oil pressure gauge or all sorts of warning lights on so we can do a $20 oil change on it that we will end up being liable for when the car eventually explodes.
Actually Walmart usually goes to the manufacturer and asks them to produce cheaper versions of their items specially for their stores or to sell them the lower rated QC stuff in large quantities for a cheaper price.
This is true. We do sell some good goodyear tires though (Trailmarks, Wranglers all seem to be something our customers enjoy. A guy I work with has the trailmarks on his Chebby 1500 hunt truck and said they do better in the snow than anything he's had on before.) And the cheaper tires aren't even really that bad honestly, aside from the Dexteros we sell, they're fucking junk for everyone involved. We usually get really good deals on special order ones as well, I've put some really ridiculously low priced brand name tires on lately.
wal mart carries perfectly fine tires, it's just that the staff is stupid
This is also true, I have little to no idea about what I am doing 90% of the time, honestly.
Tl;dr am Walmartian AMA
Buying from eBay is buyer beware. Buying from Walmart is just bad.
they do have good tires in stock at walmart though , I've had my tires done at walmart multiple times and never had any major issues. there are some walmarts with terrible mechanics working the tire and lube, but I've yet to see one, which is good I guess.
Hmm must just be some lazy techs at our location.
Will your location change just a single tire? Or put on a slightly different size tire than the oem size? Because both of those have been used as an excuse by them to not do work because it's "unsafe".
Id buy some Walmart tires theyd be better than the tires on my NewYorker that A:are sears Brand and B:are whitewalls you can kind of guess their age.
welp I got drunk and decided to pay for motor trend on demand.

Im so clumsy
So Im leaving my New Yorker stock with the exception of intake and carb maybe some factory high flow heads.
Now I am still going to put those aluminum heads I got to good use plan now is to build 543ci big block with fuel injection and supercharger and put it into something else.
The only question I have now is into what a mid 60s Lancer is an idea but also thinking along the lines of reviving a dead merc or jag with that Mopar goodness maybe creat a bastard child by pairing mopar with GM or Ford.

Yea there is, but these kinda things cost like 500 to 5000euro per race, depending on your car. They also have an own-risk of about 10.000. So it's worthless.

I agree, I shat myself pretty good on that one. It just kept going up and up and up, and when the hitch slammed, I saw 3/4 of the rear wheels jump off the ground too. Best episode yet for sure.

i was laughing my ass off all the way through, that things just way too ridiculous.
too bad there's no way to ever do that legally over here.

Can you "accidentally" leave a link to vanishing paint? I'll be sure to return it
wal mart carries perfectly fine tires, it's just that the staff is stupid
Can confirm, brought my Camaro in for rear tires one day and the tech that drove it in fucked the shifting linkage by trying to jam it into reverse without doing the push-down-lockout thingy. Not only that but they wouldn't even balance the front tires for me because they were smaller than the rear wheels. 215 rears and 205 fronts... It's a muscle/sport/pony car of course its tires are going to be different size.

Yes, we do single tires all the time, I don't see why we would turn it down. If it is different than what the tire spec. sticker in the door or owners manual calls for, we'll roll out a tire and explain the difference to you to make sure you're alright with it, and have you sign a waiver if it is a much larger or wider/taller tire.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are shit shops out there though, our shop manager is a guy who's fulltime job is working on the county's vehicles (cop cars, vans, etc.), the other has been a fabrication manager and his fulltime job is the same as the shop managers, one has been doing it for 37 years (a phrase which I hear literally every day, but the guy knows his shit) And the rest of us have all been around it enough to get by with stuff as simple as we do, for the most part, so we're fairly lucky to have some talented people working (trapped) at walmart. The new guys who don't want to work or are really bad at it don't last long.
