Automotive Addicts Lounge V4 - Lube my pistons, baby

Picked up my Golf today, it's a million times nicer than anything else I've driven. Comfortable as hell, but still has plenty of power for my boring ass.
The stereo + Android Auto is great for something OEM. I love that they hid the sub on top of the spare tire so it's not taking up space anywhere else that matters.

Just found out my cousin was on Top Gear America last week. (He's the soldier who they talk to during the M1 Abrams time-trial thing)
I have a reeeeeeal bad feeling something bad is going to happen to my Impreza soon. Just a gut feeling.
The worst part is that I'm moving into my new house next week, I started a new job on the 15th, and the MR2 is out of commission right now. (Still has the motor with bad rod knock)
And I don't get paid until the 30th.
shit
are there any real advantages to buying a land yacht like a 1965-1980 Mercury / Cadillac / Lincoln / Pontiac other than looking cool as hell?
I'm thinking of buying a used car because I need one, and I really really love the look of those cars, but I'm holding off because of mainly lack of research on them.

My granddad had a '75ish olds, and it was pretty fucking bad. It ran wrong off the lot and fell to bits pretty quick. I don't know exactly when it went away, but those were the days when to meet emissions they just slapped a bottleneck intake and terrible catcons onto an engine designed for the horsepower wars and called it a day. Even if they were built like a Rolls, they run horribly, rust like ore and eat gas like it's five cents a gallon

That old it's not worth your money unless you have a deep wallet
so turns out i fixed my rear view mirror problem
got a 15 dollar rear view mirror at autozone that actually has range of motion

I wish we had a real equivalent to Autozone in the UK. Halfords is shite.
I've heard quite a bit about these. There has to be a reason more people don't use 5-4 lug adapters or vice versa.

Their reputation is disputed, but some people say it can just fine as long as you aren't putting down 500whp.
I've heard they add a tonne of stress to your lugs as well.
What is the consensus here?
I personally just got some of the spacers where you have to get longer lugs for your wheels, I am a little more comfortable with that. I don't think there's much of a problem using them unless, like you said, have crazy power going to the wheels.
I also just bought a set of lowering Springs for my 900 off a British site last night, before they left and pound to usd went down. It was £168 which I don't really know if I had waited I would have saved any money. :v:

If you like to work on your cars, and you're not in the rust belt, then go for it. First thing to do is take all the smog cap off the engine.
I wasn't kidding.

It really is my new car.
Anyway, after work today I took it into the detailing room and washed it together with a colleague.
Previous owner had a dog in the back so it smelled like a farm inside. Here's before and after in the boot:

Here's the rest of it:

I gotta get a new expansion tank, and figure out what's up with the rear wiper.
Who was it in here who was fixing up that vw beetle and put the dual solex carbs on it? I gotta ask him what model carbs those were. Ive got a set of them in storage somewhere and if these damn goldwing carbs dont start playing nice, im gonna build me a single carb manifold and mount one of those on it. Now while iijm bored at work is the perfect time for research.
me?
I have no idea what model they were other than them being single 34mm dual setup.
Other than people wanting to trade Oldsmobiles or make payment plans just to destroy it delivering pizza, no interest in the Impreza.
Really wanted that Outback Sedan, incredibly rare, probably only 1000 left with the H6.
I had a one hour drive home in the Supra yesterday, and just as I started my drive home, it started drizzling lightly. Fast forward 5 minutes and it was raining sideways.
I have never in my life ever experienced a rain/thunder storm as extreme as this. I could see huge lightnings across the sky every 30 seconds or so. They lit up everything.
It had been sunny all day and 30 degrees celcius, and suddenly this thunderstorm rolled over us.
The highway had huge puddles everywhere and frankly my knuckles where completely white from clutching onto my fake Nardi wheel. It was so. fucking. sketchy.
I couldn't see the car 20 meters in front of me, and everytime I hit a puddle, the rear wheels started spinning and the rear end broke loose. I don't have much experience with RWD driving, so I laid numerous turds in my pants.
I was so relieved that I didn't crash or anything by the time I got home. That has to be the most intense and concentrated drive I've ever had.
On the plus side all the pollen and dust was washed off the car though!
That feeling when you wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of rain.
Then you remember you left your windows rolled down.
Oh what the fuck, I left my window open too the same damn night. I've never had that happen to me before. It also was the rainiest day in months here, some minor floodings even :v:

Well almost there!
The following was done
-E46 M3 brakes installed
-3.91 diff ratio installed
-New stainless steel brake pipes
-Rear brake pressure system, can change the rear brake pressure during race
-Installed the fire suppresion system
-replaced wiper fluid
-Last but not least, I scored an original Supersprint exhaust system for only 150 euro!

Video doesn't do justice.
The brake upgrade eventually ended up costing a fuckload more then I anticipated so my budget is pretty much blown right now, so the other upgrades will have to wait. I'll be buying a new MIG welder with this months paycheck and the rest will be for running costs. So this is it for the coming month. Going to test the car 2nd of July.

only benefit my grandparents ever got out of their old '75 deville was the antique plate that they didn't need to renew every year, otherwise it was a money sink, you'd need to find a real pristine classic to ensure you won't have too many major problems hitting you constantly.
Decided that, for now, I will keep the Impreza.
Started the body work today, need help doing the rockers though. Thinking of doing the box tubing trick to them.
Roof is ready for paint, fenders honestly should be replaced, doors aren't bad. Hatch just needs sanding.
Front bumper is real bad, but do have the bugeye I was modding to fit.
My car has decided that it isn't content to just leak power steering fluid, so now it's hemorrhaging coolant all over my driveway every night. Ugh.

If you're going to be replacing the water pump its a perfect time to also replace the power steering pump.. Can solve both your problems

It's leaking from rack itself, and the car is on its third rack.
Does anyone here have any experience with an AEM FIC? I'm debating if I should just buy the FIC and make my car run with that, or spend x3 as much and make it run MS2/3 with a 5 speed.
Also, is there anyway to convert a car from narrowband to wideband without doing an ECU swap?
Had a bit of an odd road rage encounter today.
I caught up to two vehicles, a riced out Ranger and riced out 2 door car, on a four lane road, one in each of the lanes I could be in.
Rolling side by side, going 30-35mph in a 45mph zone (traffic normally goes 50-55mph here).
I was in the 'fast' lane, trying to go the speed limit.
I caught up pretty fast, held my distance at a bit beyond whats required. They just kinda held up traffic, revved engines, etc.
We got to a stop light in a 35mph zone, and the 2 door could not figure out how to get into first gear at all.
I creeped up slightly, they rolled back a lot, finally taking off.
They then floored it to 45mph or so, i got up to 35-40 behind them a decent ways.
They came to a hill, slowed down to 25-30 in the 35 zone. I caught up.
NC is a 'slower than' state. Meaning, since he is holding up traffic in the left lane, he is required to move. At this point, he had held up traffic for 5+ miles with the Ranger right beside him.
I decided to flash my high beams, he freaked out, slammed the brakes, i slammed mine and locked my rear tires, and he whipped his car into the center turn lane. I had left plenty of stopping distance, but still.
The Ranger driver ended up seeing me at a filling station down the road and said "You better be careful".
Not sure if it's a threat, or?
I have it all on dashcam, not sure if i should turn it in or what.
send it to the police and post it here. Something about watching stupid people drive like retards makes me feel good about myself.

Love the tow point just flapping about, avatar material?
In other news I bought a sweet eofy Powerprobe kit. I got a bit excited when I was possibly about to use it on a car on which the windows didn't work only to find the main window switch was unplugged like straight away... :frown:
Well shit.
The one day I decide I wanna go to the junkyard to get some stuff for the toyota, it's closed.

break check me and I might get a ticket for failure to control my vehicle but your gonna have a unicorn horn up your ass.
I would suggest you do the same if you were in your chevy.

Alert your local authorities and keep the footage saved just in case. I'd take the threat as nothing more than a road rage chest puffing, but better safe.
How bad is it to drive with a rim with a bigger center size than my hubs center?
well you can buy centering rings, or you can just ignore it, you'll probably only notice it at low speed, feels like a boat waddling around.
It puts slightly more stress on the studs, especially when driven hard. I personally don't have them for any of my cars.
However, on a Euro car with lug studs instead of lug nuts it's almost a necessity.. it sucks trying to put a rim on that doesn't sit tight on the hub and threading the first one or two of those in.
How bad is it to drive with a rim with a bigger center size than my hubs center?
You can get center-rings in almost any sizes, they're a tad bit pricey for the more "exotic" sizes tho'.
