This week has been interesting.

A few people stopped by and helped me flip it back up. No damage! I love my Impreza.
I also started to rip into the Snapper I bought for a hundred bucks. I had to redo some of the wiring to get it to fire with the starter button.
The starter needs a new plastic tooth-ring thing (they were half sheared off already) but that's only a few bucks.

Oh boy. Does anyone have some advice on cleaning this carb? This is the first time I've ever tried to do it.
I get about a second of life out of the motor by spraying starter fluid in, but when I have the gas tank connected via the proper fuel line, I get a whole lotta nothing.
I would like more information leading to why that poor subbie hit that embankment and magicly stayed on its side. I could only imagine the crushed panels you are not telling us about
I dunno, my WRX and old 02 OBS have some pretty fucking stronk lower panels. Hell, I rear ended an explorer doing like 30 and it only cost me $300 to fix. Hood, rad, and rad support. Been rear ended in my 02 wrx three times with the only damage being my catback and tag. Pretty funny to be in a 5 car pileup, everyone is sitting with their totaled cars and I'm just banging out my license plate. I was the lead car, but I stopped quick enough to not hit the chump in front of me. The guy at the end of the fucktrain didn't brake at all in his shizuki and turned his car into a cheese wedge underneath a g. cherokee.
Also, I'm looking for a second car. I love subarus, but another WRX is too expensive, and here in FL there just aren't many subarus, so I was looking into 4th gen maximas, which are in large supply...except manual ones. However, VQ engines are timing chain, and do very well at high mileage, not to mention maximas are quick as shit. They're generally all under 2 grand here. Anyone have experience with 95-99 maximas?

Well, when I slid into the bank I guess I lost enough speed that the roof basket sort of helped stop me from totally rolling.
But really, other than the dents that were already there I've got nothing new in terms of damage! Except some scuffed rims.
I'll even get pictures all around if you want :v:

Why the fuck is this dude driving a rally car with slicks on a dirt road?
for a 4-5mm spacer set do i need to spend $100?
No longer have the plans or funds for a project so im going to sell the heads I have.
Anyone interested in a pair of 440 aluminum heads 1200 cad for the pair?
If you really want a classic car, flip your mustang and by yourself a cheap, reliable DD and a nice classic that you can drive when you're in the mood, even daily if you want. It's just good to have an alternative source of transport if the classic takes a dump and you can't find parts or whatever.
I don't think the guy will bite on the trade anyway. But thanks for the advice, I've all ready got that jeep for reliable transportation. I'm just gonna passively keep my open for something I'd like.
I think that sounds like an awesome trade.
I love me some GM A bodies or some late 60s Fords.
Mopar just doesn't give me the same tingles.

I'm all about mopar, but I'm not picky when it comes to classics. They're all awesome to me. My ultimate goal is a '69 Fury. They seem to run pretty cheap so I'll be able to pick one up once I get the space for two cars.

Get can of carb cleaner with one of those parts baskets, soak the parts for a while, then get some carb cleaner spray to blast the jets out and the stuck-on bits off. Pretty sure plastic/rubber will get eaten up so you'll have to take the float and any gaskets and possibly the choke valve off if they're made of plastic. Gotta be super clean.
What's that from anyway? looks nasty

Remove any plastic or rubber bits, then buy yourself a can of chemdip and drop that shit in for an hour. Rinse it off really well (get all the dip off) and it's going to look brand new. I love chemdip, it takes minimal effort and does all the work for you. I've had my can for 5 years now and it still works like the day I bought it, $30 well spent.

Thanks guys!
Is there anything that won't kill the rubber? I'm just curious.
Also, it's from a early-mid 80's Snapper (series 5), 8HP Briggs, Model number is 190707 I believe.

Only 92 miles. How do you even manage that?
My car started to make a tin can rattling noise when I started it.
This was the cause of the problem:

The solution was to replace all this:
[t]https://i.imgur.com/lrjROv8.png[/t]
$3500 replaced under warranty.
Only 92 miles. How do you even manage that?
New York City/Long Island is how. Imagine you somehow drove it only as a weekend/special occasion car. Then imagine you bought it more so as a showy, status-confirming car than a super fun trackday-mountain-road-tearing-monster. You probably don't log a shitton of miles to begin with if you're in that area and very rich, but when you do, there is undoubtedly traffic, and you don't drive far to begin with.

Worth it if you can afford to fix it. That $600k repair estimate seems conservative, but who knows unless if you probe the carbon tub for delamination or fracture.
Seems like they would have had to crash it almost immediately when you factor in the amount of miles it probably had on the lot.

If you can take the gaskets and plastic bits off then give them a soap bath with dish soap.
Only 92 miles. How do you even manage that?
judging by how the wreck looks, the owner either got overzealous and slid off the road and hit something, or something happened in traffic and someone took off the front of his car in a t-bone accident
id go with the traffic accident since any new owner of a 918 probably knows how to drive at least a little bit, and the front looks like something hit it going very quickly at a 90 degree angle
[editline]14th July 2016[/editline]
also if he'd been going fast enough to do that to the front he probably would have spun and the rest of the car would show the damage too
I wonder if shipping is like 10x more or something crazy for a car like that. Granted, a wreck is a wreck, but I would not be surprised if shipping a car like that requires something more special. But it seems standard cost is like $1,500-$3,000, depending on size and distance I believe. When I played with the thought of getting a parts Miata, I saw $525 cars available, but the shipping was still $1,500. And then if I wanted to fix them, it would pretty much bring them back up to the usual price of buying one, so it doesn't seem like it's super easy to save money through this method.
Does anyone here use solar panels to keep the battery up on their non daily vehicles?
I bought a harbor freight little one and only puts out .1 amp for only 5 hrs a day and I don't think that's enough.
Only other brand I see is NOCO (eww) with a 45 watt but they are ~100$
So, weird radio question. Last week I got in my car after work on a really fucking hot, muggy day, turned on the car, and noticed the radio wasn't coming on (It's just a run of the mill stock 7-speaker Daimler-Chrysler radio w/o U-Connect). There was no sound coming from the speakers, and the main head was completely blank. No clock showing, no nothing. I pressed buttons, cranked the knobs, did everything. Nothing. Randomly, a few minutes while driving down the road cussing, I hit the volume knob up and it cranked full volume suddenly on the radio, but still no display. A few minutes later, I hit the disc button and it suddenly came to life and acted perfectly fine and hasn't done that since.
Any idea what might have caused the issues?

Really hot and humid day? that and incredibly cold is bad for electronics in general.
Probably a protection circuit that prevented it from turning on in order to prevent it from being damaged when used.
I think the 2nd gear synchros in my car are going bad. It doesn't grind as if you're trying to shift without clutching, but it's a very noticable crunchy feeling on the gear lever every time I shift into 2nd especially when shifting down. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it does hurt me on the inside every time it happens. :v:

Time to learn the correct RPM to KM/h or MPH shift pattern.
