nx2000 :v:
(im sorry if you find out this way daniel)
I've talked to a couple of you via Steam about be getting a new truck. It appears I will be looking into the 98-06 era of diesels. My main focus is the Duramax due to the higher gvwr and brand loyalty. The issue is I want a crew cab std bed in either white or grey with nothing more than a 4" lift pre installed no pre installed gooseneck or 5thwheel 4x4 and less than 250k miles.
These are tight conditions that I'm narrowing down to, but I fell like its possible to find one that's a good deal. But I'm not gonna lie the halfprice'd of the power strokes are very eye catching.
Now its just time to filter out all the fuckboi bullshit tuner lame asses that put their tuners to level 5 and went LOLITSLAMBOFAST and rekt the trans.
Leveling up after 21 is even worse, this ain't shitttt.
Honestly, good answers to the big 'whys' in life elude me it seems like. I just fix the crack, no questions, and collect monies.
bah, collect pidgeys, use lucky egg. works fine, even for me on level 19.
anyways I may have achieved diesel transcendence last night. I drained the fuel from every line except about 2 feet short of the lift pump and didnt even have to re-prime it when I was done.
I have become truly enlightened.
If you want to legitimately talk diesels, then PM me. Its what I do.
To give you a quick explanation:
Fords
Dont hold their value so well. $3000-10000
7.3L ford = bulletproof but gutless. Cheap.
6.0L = ticking time bomb or good to 300k. Nobody wants them because EVERYTHING goes on them. FICM, PCM, Headgasket ($3500 to do right), Injections ($2300 just parts), oil cooler, high pressure oil pump, turbo, you name it. They're shit
6.4L ford = even worse than the 6.0l but now you've got electrical issues tacked on as well
6.7L ford = actually pretty decent
Dodge:
Value: $2500-19000 (excluding fourth gen) all trucks hold their value really well.
First gen (89-93) = trucks are built like shit and fall apart/rust easily. Expensive for a nice one, cheap for a beat one. Driveline is solid, never worry about anything
Second gen 12 valve (94-98) = easily the best ones made. Never worry about anything, the famous "go to a million miles" engine, caveman simple trucks that work and that are simple to make big power with. 1998 has the updated interior.
Second gen 24 valve (98.5-2002) = more refined, but a little more susceptible to problems because of that. Engine is solid so long as you have an aftermarket lift pump installed so that the injection pump is always getting fuel (uses it as lubrication). Trannys are alright in the 94-2002 second gens, autos are good if you kee them stock, 5 speeds dont like towing in 5th because its a small OD gear, and the 6 speed is a bullet proof bus trans
Third gen 5.9L (2003-2007): MUCH better truck, a lot nicer to drive because they improved it a bunch, the engines are easy to make power with and fairly reliable, on part with the 98.5-2002 trucks, but injectors are prone to go ($2300 just for parts).
Third gen 6.7L (2007.5-2009) engine is solid, truck is solid, expensive to but but they're good trucks. The egr and dpf is annoying is all
Fourth gen 6.7L (2010-present) = much nicer trucks, not as rugged and tough as the older ones but much nicer inside and out and to drive. Expensive since they are new
Chevy:
Value: LBZs are soaring in price, the rest are 5000-11000
6.5L detroit = absolute shit. Gutless, no power, cheap, shitty trucks, dont even consider it.
LB7 (98-2004 I think?) headgaskets and injectors are prone to go, solid trucks otherwise. Cheap because of the chance of aformentioned parts going. Has interior and electrical problems
LLY (2004-2005.5) injectors are prone to go, solid trucks otherwise. Little more money for a nice one.
LBZ (2006-2007) best year of the old body style. Gets a VGT turbo that sounds godly, no headgasket or injector issues, really nice trucks but expensive.
Pm me any other questions or even craigslist ads and I'll give you a hand. I've been workin with diesels for a while now and consider myself pretty well versed.
I love my 7.3 idi.
I don't give an anorexic shit if its as slow as giant tortoises having sex, you put the chooch juice in and it just goes. When I was replacing the tank selection valve, I tracked down the fuel line all the way and discovered that the dunderheads in Kansas that my grandpa hired to install the 7.3 just plumbed the fuel line through the lold 6.9 fuel filter, then the lift pump, then the 7.3 filter, despite the 6.9 filter being fucking impossible to access. There's a very good chance that old fuel filter has been in use since 2005, 90k miles ago. Still worked fine. I cut the headline and bypassed it, but I was impressed that it lasted so long.

The Ford's value will vary by region.
Here, they tend to be neck and neck with the value of Dodge's.
The 99-03 7.3, you're looking at 8-10k for a crewcab, long bed, with 200-300k miles in this area.
The first gen, non-turbo 7.3 is a little gutless. The Powerstroke has a lot of power.
6.0/6.4, if you can afford preventive work, as good as 7.3.
Dodge has always had good engines, but iffy transmissions and bodies. All throughout the earlier Cummins year range, autos had premature failures. Bodies rusted prematurely.
Chevy; I'd take a 6.5 over the newer ones. Very reliable, can tune to have the power of a first gen Duramax.
Though, you're still stuck with IFS.
I ended up getting an '84 6.2l Detroit Chevy K20 and avoiding all the issues. Not as powerful as newer ones, though does the same jobs.
Here's my brick, super clean, got it from the first owner. 86k miles!

So I got the windshield gasket back in, but it keeps popping back out after a few hours. Thinking about putting a dab of silicone in the corner just to keep it in place. As far as I know, when it's in, it seals just fine. So a bit of silicone shouldn't hurt, right?
So the head unit in my truck is acting up and rather then dealing with it I decided to upgrade so I just bought a factory lincoln GPS unit, a GPS antenna, and a 2015 North America GPS update. Going from stock shitty head unit to GPS!!
Should all be here next week

It's not a gasket, it's just trim.
Putting whatever in the corner to keep it in place will be fine. The glue under the windshield is what's sealing it, not the trim.
averaging 21MPG on a 95 taurus is about the best i can possibly get, right?
it feels so shitty especially for highway driving (most i can pull is like 26 if i'm lucky on my 5 hour drive)
Fuck dude, I'd be happy with 21 or 25. 16MPG sucks.
Brand new volvo truck the boss got me, this thing is so smooth, from steering to shifting. Cummuins ISX 550hp/1850tq engine, RPM block at 1500rpm so its easier to keep good synchros and shifting faster, except the 2 last gear.

So I did a lot of work on my 900 recently. Did new shocks and lowering springs in it, and a new headliner and dynamat. It's like a whole new car basically. Perfect way to break it in was a road trip, in which I drove the Kancamagus highway and the Mt. Washington Auto Road in New Hampshire. Both were gorgeous and I definitely don't think it would have been as good if I had not done these.

Also, my family bought a boat. It's a project but it's cool to have.

I get about 21 mpg on the highway with my 03 Toyota Tacoma 2.7l 4cyl. But it also has 292,524 miles on it.
Im gonna probably get a Ninja 250 soon. Those get really decent mileage. Although I'm getting it for fun.
oh man oh boy
My dad brought his fancy vacuum pump home from work and we fixed the factory air on my truck. Replaced the accumulator and a few o-rings, cleaned the emulsion tube, sucked out any moisture, made sure it held 30 inches of vacuum for 30 minutes, slapped on el cheapo R12-R134a fitting adapters and a can of conversion oil, and filled it up with freon. Took it for a test drive and it blew 53 degrees while it was around 85 degrees outside.
Eat shit, guy at the auto parts store who tried t tell me Id need to replace the compressor, condenser, and all the lines.
[editline]21st July 2016[/editline]
Oh yeah, the reason Ive been working on the truck so much is because friday the girlfriend and I are taking the truck camper to the black hills for some campin and [del]fuckin[/del] spelunkin.
If all goes well Ill come back with a fiance.
Better make sure your tires don't melt in the hills

Goodluck man.
Careful with those conversion parts.

Fellow Maine brother! Nice to see some more Maine plates up in here.
On monday I drove past some lady on the side of the road and she yelled at me to slow down.
I was going 20 in a 30.

Why would the tires melt I don't get it
I have my drivers test on Wednesday. Soon joining this club :v:
Why would the tires melt I don't get it
Because the high is 95 on Friday in Rapid City. These are the hottest days since 2011
My lake's water temp is 92, I'm more worried about my boat melting :v:
Goddamn.
I have a black car with black leather. It's 85+ everyday, and my AC decides to shit on me.
Anyone know of good resources to diagnose AC for a Volvo? P2 platform if that helps.

Right, I get you. Ill keep the burnouts short. The working AC makes all the hours spent in my humid 90 degree garage absolutely worth it.
Call me crazy but I like humid heat better than dry heat.

See if the compressor is running. If it's cycling too fast, grab some freon and stuff that shit in there. If there's plenty of pressure in the lines but no compressor action, look at the pressure switch.
Remember when I said the Beetle died? Well it's still just as dead as before, but this time it has a chance! I bought an engine.

Well. This sucks dick. Was heading home from a KISS concert and this modified Mustang stopped really abruptly in front me. SO was following me. I stop inches from the Mustang, SO slams on brakes as I did and the ABS doesn't kick in and slides into the back of my car.
Neither Mustang nor SO's car is damaged at all.
Mine..

Trunk wont close, fender is pinched, alignment is fucked, bumper is cracked, and rear doors wont open.
Can't report it either. It'll make SO's already high insurance even more expensive and make mine more expensive too. I feel screwed.
Oh man that sucks
