it's a very american chart.
get a daihatsu or something, they're rad cars that we're not allowed to have in the states
My car got stolen last wednesday, words cannot express how shocked and upset I was about it, I'd only had the car a few months and it was a stunning 2013 Honda Civic EX.
When I realised it was gone I instantly dialed the police since it would have only been recently taken, the police kept me updated and found it within 10 minutes being driven around a nearby town center 'quite normally'. They tailed it for a while when all of a sudden the fucking guy takes off and starts driving like a complete dickhead.
In the end it resulted in a police chase and he smashed it straight into a parked car and then a police car afterwards.
Fucking Prick why couldn't he just ditch it?
Anyway, the car is quite damaged but its been recovered and seems as though it can be repaired from what inspectors have said since the engine is undamaged and it still rolls fine, only minor damage to the metals, the bulk of the damage being the cosmetic plastics around the front, on the wings and the headlights etc. The only niggling thing that is getting me anxious is finding out if theres any damage to the chassis or if the wheels have been bent back at all...
So yeah, keep your cars safe guys, its a horrible feeling and I wouldn't wish it on anybody.
Its a question based completely on an opinion. I think the European and specifically British vehicles look like absolute dog shit.
The Mustang is probably the most iconic vehicle around.
I'm gonna call a 90s wide body camry the most iconic car.
hear me out
when you think of just a car, what do you think of? you don't think of some muscle car or a luxury car or anything like that, mustang doesn't come to mind unless someone asks you to think of a specific type of car. but if someone just says "think of a car" you think of a 90s camry. it can be an xv10 or an xv20, but it's going to be a 90s wide body camry.
if someone tells you to think of a luxury car, it's probably going to be a lexus ls400 or some mercedes, if someone tells you to think of a muscle car it's probably going to be a second gen charger, if someone says pony car it'll be a first gen mustang fastback, if someone says sports car it'll be a corvette, if someone says a coupe it'll be a tiburon or something, if someone says wagon it'll be either something like a vista cruiser or a subaru wagon depending on how old that person is. but if you just say "think of a car" none of those things come to mind, it will 100% be some cheap featureless economy sedan. even if it's not a camry, it'll be an altima or a malibu or something. it's just not going to be something special.

No love for the 201 and 126

As far as a good first car, get one of these or a Honda Civic
Wow so these past 3-4 days have been plenty eventful.
Saturday I autocrossed at Fort devens for the first time. Had a fucking blast! Still slow, but it felt fast and I was able to make big improvements. Signed up for the remaining 3 events of the year, so I look forward to seeing some more crazy cars like the Porsche GT3s on race slicks and a Lotus with the BIGGEST wing I've ever seen on one, on race slicks.
Sunday I went to a car show I've been going to for 3 years now. Funny how much less excited I get at it now, I feel so much more calm and passive. Maybe it's because many of the cars are repeats, so it's kinda like been there, seen that. Even still, I always see at least a few special snowflakes that I get very excited over. Cars that I never thought I would see, let alone realized they are owned by somebody in NH or MA!
Cars like:

MV Agusta F4 1000 Senna. 300 made. Was supposedly for sale for the right buyer!
Then last Night I went to what was really my first ever car meet, and it barely lasted an hour. Typical shithead kit bullshit with kids burning out one after another after getting kicked out for taking up too much space, among other complaints from the lot owner. The silver lining in this though was that I met up again with the owner of that black NSX up there. This time I got to sit in it and soak it all in. Was tempted to ask for a test drive. But yeah, I just found it so funny to see him there, and to even just run in to him again. Even exchanged numbers, so I might see more NSX in my future.
On a related note I also got to hang out with a distant friend of mine, and witness the fury of his straight piped El Camino and straight piped Volvo S 60R.

Weasel your way into a ride in that thing! If he's a cool dude he'll be more than willing to take someone for a rip. I'm always super flattered when people ask me and I'll oblige whenever time allows. It's almost as good as being in a true super car, lol.
pretty compact
The sheer fuckhueg size of it was kind of a selling point of personal luxury cars. Aside from that, American cars were usually comparable in size to European cars on the next price tier.
euro luxury cars were huge too. look at a grosser merc or a rolls royce for examples

Those are all rare, except the discount RR's.

the last kicker is that for a few years you're going to be penalised by your insurance because it's a reported claim even if you had nothing to do with it
[editline]17th August 2016[/editline]
I'm in the same boat, a claim that I had no control over and 100% wasnt my fault and even proven it wasnt
still hits my premiums
Those are all rare, except the discount RR's.
I'll give you that grosser mercs were owned only by people who either killed millions or died on the toilet but rolls royces are common as dirt, same with bmw 7 series, saab 9000, jaguar xj, mercedes s-class, etc are all pretty large things that are pretty common
The Saab 9k is a big car now? :v: It's just slightly longer than a E36 cab...
The Saab 9k is a big car now? :v: It's just slightly longer than a E36 cab...
the liftback model is just a couple inches shy of full size pickup territory, it's longer and wider than a long bed ranger by a considerable margin
The liftbacks aren't even the largest models, the sedan was at 4,78meters. The smallest ranger measures in at 4,68, a whopping 10cms shorter.
And as for the width? 1,76 in both cases, and I'll give you this: They're 5 cms wider than the E36 and a Mazda 323...
So, my scooter blew the headlight, only down to a weak-ass parking light, and that isn't helpful at all on dark, unlit bike paths.
A little careful jury-riggin' got me reasonable safe back home. :v:

so just dropped in to say that my car is fucked in the most annoyingly fucked way
i was delivering some things to habitat for humanity, got back in my car and noticed a large and growing orange puddle under it.
1 hour later and 5 gallons of water i got home
today we put it up on jacks and found that not a hose sprung a leak, one of the metal pipes that wrap around the engine had a leak. now the issue is a hose i can take to adv auto and get changed out no problem, these pipes are almost impossible to extract from the engine bay and we arent even sure what part they are yet.
so what could have been a 5 minute fix if it had been a hose is now 1 removed engine mount, air filter, battery, transmission hose and probably more before we get the thing out then we have to go up to the dealership with it (again) and hope someone there knows what part it is because the schematics around it are crap and then we have to probably order it (if its the part # i suspect) because it will be out of stock and then when we have it, it should only take about 5 minutes to put it in and attach the hoses, then another few hours to put everything back together

You mean red fluid?
You DONT have to yse thoes metal lines, cut the line near the trans and cut it near the trans cooler and fix her up with some 5/16" fuel line. Works just fine.
Information on vehicle and photos do wonders here because honestly I've never seen or herd a METAL line poop fluid especcialy orange pop fluid.
God I want a fanta right now.
That's pretty much a UK problem, most of that would be possible for a 18 y/o to own here, except pretty much anything made in America or anything else sporty.
Yup. I've owned two of the cars in that list so far and insurance was incredibly doable. My '82 Camaro (granted they thought it was still a V6 and not the twice-the-v6-displacement 350 that was swapped in it :v:) was only ~$65/mo for liability, and my '85 MR2 is ~$85/mo for full coverage and I'm only 22.
Driving around a 2016 Nissa Altima for the past few days was fun. I could feel pretty quick that it has a CVT. I really like CVTs in comparison to standard automatic transmissions. This thing had some really good pickup and an extremely smooth drive.
Don't know how autos and CVTs compare to manuals. Since I can't drive such.
You're going to start a CVT debate
cvts work really well but I don't like them because they're boring.
they're honestly the ideal solution for a city car or an economy car but that's just not what I'm about
They're really good at what they do, and the one in the Altima behaves like a regular auto too.
They're the ideal solution period. Even for an extreme high performance scenario, CVT will get a faster time than any other transmission, simply because of how it is designed. Only thing they don't currently do with them is high torque consumer vehicles like big trucks and such. But they do have high torque industrial farm equipment powered by CVT, so the tech is clearly there (just maybe too expensive?).
Anyone who has a preference against CVT only feels that way because they enjoy the experience of what they're used to and don't want to change. Same reasons you'd want to watch a movie on shitty old 23fps film; because that's what you're used to and you're resistant to change, you enjoy that experience even though high resolution digital at a high framerate would provide an objectively better experience in every way, but someone who has never seen a movie on film before would surely prefer the high resolution high framerate because they don't have any expectations to compare it to and it's clearly better.
My first car has a CVT so I don't give a shit and went into it with an open mind and now when I drive anything else I'm thinking the whole time "this technology is clearly inferior, why would anyone want it this way?" Having started on a CVT I can see it's clearly the better way to go. I'm glad I'm not biased against it due to years of slowly getting used to coping with inferior technology.

damn that is one condescending post
everyone knows CVTs are technically better, that doesn't mean they're closed-minded, stupid, inferior, stuck in the past, or otherwise worse than you just because they think another type of transmission is more fun
news flash: not everyone is concerned with maximum efficiency.
i was raised on lcd, dvds, blu-rays, mp3s, you name it - and yet i love watching vhs tapes on a crt screen. i have an expansive collection of records that i dust off once in a while when i'm feeling nostalgic. sometimes i do light duty stuff around the house with tools that are over a century old. i light my room with edison bulbs mounted inside 70 year old lamps, my desk clock is a flip clock made in 1972, i keep oil lanterns from the 1800s around in case the power goes out, my daily-use radio uses vacuum tubes, and my ultimate goal for a daily driver is 60s mopar
why do i do all of these things? i think it's fun, i like experiencing history and days gone by in a practical frame instead of watching this old junk rot away and get recycled into new junk. i just enjoy it. better technologies are great, but having the latest and greatest and most efficient just isn't what everyone cares about.

I dont even know where to start with this post, but then, remind me what you drive again? I think most people in here have a different view on driving. In the same way as you don't go to someone riding a horse "oh why are you enjoying this outdated inefficient technology", I don't think you quite get it.
