I've had burban for 4 years and only drove it around the block on occasion.
It's not how much you drive it. If you look at it and sit in it and you smile. Everything is okay.
I sit in her and let her warm up on occasion and I have the biggest grin every time. Same for when I'm in the boat. It's like there is someone else is there....
I've used over 10 tows, helping out friends and what not or getting garbage towed back to my house. I've only once actually needed AAA and that was because I wrecked an OEM axle with a brand new clutch on the Civic in the DMV parking lot :v:
Tow driver was super cool and slid the car back a little so we could look under the front before it even came off the truck because I figured it was a possibility the trans could have had a window instead because of the gravely noises.
AAA is the best but here we have the tows limited to 3 a year per member on the plan, dunno if that's just an Oregon thing because AAA is different in each state.
I've never had the need for a AAA service. For $30/year (which I have to pay anyways) I get towing for $60 a pop, while a membership is $135/year. And when I only need help once a year it really doesn't make sense to me.
Yeah I'm looking to make more power than you can get from a 6.2 or a 6.5. Wasn't even considering those tbh.
They're worth a thought.
I was in the same position, I wanted a diesel, but I wasn't even aware of the 6.2/6.5's.
A friend of a friend had a truck for sale and wanted $500 for it. I love square bodies, so i checked it out. He let me test drive it, it actually has more power than my old 350 powered truck.
Stock, you're looking at 160hp / 260tq. Parts are available for non-turbo power, you can easily gain 60hp without a turbo.
Heres mine. Its an '84 K20, 6.2 with 700R4.
I've had my Silverado for 11 years now, I think I hold the record
If it counts, my parents bought my Impreza in mid 2005. I was too young to own it then, of course.
Went to the EVE OF DESTRUCTION redneck races thing tonight to see my friend's old Corolla go ham. They had a burnout contest, and there was 3 contestants they decided needed to to a "burn off" since the audience cheers put them about even.
One was a big Cummins Dodge Ram, it must've been built because when it built boost it popped like it had launch control, and just generally sounded beefy as hell. Tons of black smoke to compliment the white tire smoke, loud exhaust.. it was a good show.
So a few seconds into his burnout he just stopped, and the only smoke coming out was a bunch of white smoke out the exhaust pipe :v: He limped it back into the pits and probably got the credit cards ready.
But hey, it's all for laughs.
As long as Valon's the diesel guy, what do you think man? No doubt running a pretty high boost and pushing it to the limit and probably bouncing redline (2k RPM lol). Did he blow a headgasket right then and there, or did he blow up the turbo and the smoke we were seeing was actually blue-ish from oil? Other possibilities?
Pretty likely the turbo, it's somewhat common that that happens in truck pulls on modded trucks.
You've made me realize I had my previous cars for a average of 2 years.
Granted they were beaters, but my current car isn't.
It's more a decent car that's been slightly neglected by PO and needs some TLC.
Kind of hard for me to believe ive had the vic for 3 years now. Maybe not. Idk. All my friends go through cars much quicker. Even the guy who only buys new cars. Still puzzles me how someone car buy a boring ass oldsmobile for $4k and the suspension rots out or the transmission grenades barely a year in, meanwhile im still powersliding around in the $2k ex police ex taxi v8 sled with (most likely) a junkyard motor. She shows her wear, but its always things that are easily fixed.
You fuck stick I want your tracker
How much did you get it for? If I had the room for it and I wasnt saving for a house, I would love a mildly beat up tracker to use as a big offroad go kart that I can also haul stuff in.
I paid like $1600 for it in 2010 because nobody wants the 2WD model which is physically identical to the 4WD model, just without a transfer case and front manual hubs. I was expecting to get two years out of it but ol' reliable just doesn't want to call it quits.
I bought my first car in 2010, it's currently sitting outside my garage because I took it down to Crater Lake and they tore up the whole damn rim road so 6-10 miles of gravel roads made it dirty. Stopped on the way up and took a picture of it while it was clean though.

Had to drive off the highway around this as well, can't seem to figure out what happened but everyone looked to be just fine. :v:

That thing looks like it's in gorgeous shape. I was looking at one of those model Acuras before I bought my Celica, but none of the people around here knew how to keep them in good shape, unfortunately.
My car's finally completely finished. Well, except for the completely non-functional right mirror, which is actually just a left side mirror. It's almost impossible to find a side mirror for the right side.

Unfortunately I don't have my driver's license yet, so I can't drive it.
So it looks like I've made it through living in this state without ever getting an in state license plate :v:

From what year is it?
Based on the current plate layout you should be able to get a blue plate if you wanted to.
It's from 1978, just a month or two too young for blue plates. Although it probably doesn't matter. Either way, I want to drive in it first. Blue plates can always come later.
Something like that, yeah. Just smack it around with a long jack handle or a hammer in the meanwhile.
I just said screw it and bought the new starter it was $160. Took me about 2hrs to replace because of how tight the old starters bolts were.
How stupid would it be to buy a E46, then install a M52TUB28 and boost it? Car + engine should cost no more then say 2-3k. From researching a bit it seems that these engines to to about 400bph without issues or much internal changes.
Also I have NO experience with boosted engines at all, I've only ever raced a supercharged E36 325i racecar.
Either way it would seem like a fun project.

I'd have to see what he has done, but my best guess holding consistent RPMs is his EGT's (exhaust gas temperature) got high and cooked the turbo or something else. If it wasnt that then either an injector went (white smoke is excessive unburnt fuel), or a headgasket would be the last thing. It really depends on whats done, he could be some dink running 55 psi on the stock turbo and creating excessively high egt's (max efficent boost is 40psi, anything after gets too hot) or a built motor that overspun the turbo and ate a wheel.
You can spin a cummins to 3000-3200rpm all day long, or 4000 rpm for short periods unless you get bigger valve springs.

Crazy, the starter for mine which should be the same exact one was only like $115. Did you skip the core charge?

Nah it's bit of a piece, it's clean compared to most of the ones you see around these days but the entire front end is road rashed to hell, the front fender is Cypress Green instead of Clover and the rear bumper was slammed into by a buddy's civic who also pushed me into another buddy's Integra. It's also seen it's fair share of abuse from idiots scraping, scratching and even falling onto it.

Mechanically though, other than the engine which was heavily neglected by the previous bunch of owners and then well maintained but heavily driven by me there's few chassis parts which I haven't replaced and maintained. I've done it up kinda like an OEM+ thing, GSR trans, Type-R Bilsteins and OEM Type-R springs off a JDM car, Type-R swaybars with a ASR brace. It also has a silly ACT 6 puck sprung clutch that's hilarious fun to drive.
It's really rewarding to drive and it stupid predictable if you're a little familiar with it. I can totally see why the Type-R was always considered the best handling FWD and many NSX owners who own an R as well would rather take it out on the track instead.
Took fucking forever to change my u joint today. The thing was so fucked. Pulling the hub bearing was a nightmare. That alone took 2 hours of dicking around with chisels, even the hub puller i have wasnt doing it. Took a combination of hub puller, chisels, bfh, pb blaster, and persistence to get the damn thing off.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/dFRw2we.jpg[/t]
Now I have to do it all over again because I fucked up the inner axle seal in the process somehow despite being as gentle as possible putting the shaft back in. So tomorrow I get to do the other u joint, pull the carrier and axle seals, put new ones in, reassemble carrier, fill with new gear oil, and then change the engine oil. It's going to be a long day.

I saw that thing in hot rod magazine, glad to see jay has a video on it. Fuckin nuts car.
Crazy, the starter for mine which should be the same exact one was only like $115. Did you skip the core charge?
That was without the core charge... in total with the core charge it was $226. For whatever reason starters for the standard/manual engine are waaay more expensive than one for an auto.
Someone on youtube was uploading a lot of the motor trend content. He did not even last 3 days before he started taking down the content and uploaded an apology with what I believe is a forced advertisement in the apology.
Kinda funny...

Why are 80% of people of drive diesels in rural areas douche-king-supremes!?
In the last week and a half I've had coal rolled on me personally three fucking times. I see them rolling coal getting on the free way. I see them roll coal on the people eating ice cream at the shop across the street from me.
Why?!?! If the goal is to look like an asshole and piss everyone off while you high-five your inbred buddy in the passenger seat.. I guess they achieved it.
In fact, today when I got coal rolled on me just before I got home I decided to follow the guy and give him a piece of my mind if he stopped at a local bar or something. But he continued out of town and rolled coal on me again, so I called the cops with his plate and since I had him on dash cam doing it twice. Then when I was on the phone with the cops I told him "Yeah man, I'm not sure if I'm wasting your time with something dumb like this, but it's been getting bad around here and this guy really pissed me off" and he said "yea, they piss a lot of people off, including me." :v:
How to show everyone that you are indeed the biggest fuckboy in town;

Honestly I can't believe it's legal, they could easily consider it obscuring vision or something
It's not around here, you can get a big ticket for it.
At a car show this year a truck gave it the beans and rolled coal/ spun tires leaving and he got something along the lines of $1000 worth of fines :v:

There are two types of people. One that have a diesel for work and legitimately use it for its ability's. Then you have fukbois that thinks its the shit with their tuners and shit.
It's just another spin-off car community thing. Everyone has "that group" with specific vehicles.

My brother in law got a diesel because of reliability, resale value, and because he likes diesels as an engineer.
The newer diesels (2003+) shouldn't smoke, proper tuning with the modern injection pumps/computers and having a vast array of sensors to get info from makes it easy to make a damn near smoke free tune.
Anything older than that, like my 12 valve, you just cant help without extensive trial and error that would be a solid weekend of trying dofferent things. I've got mine detuned pretty well, but under WOT when it lights the turbo it'll leave a good sized cloud. Once I get my compound turbos on it should clear that up.

I'll write into the subject more when I'm home.

Big difference between a cloud and a quarter long fog bank on an on ramp. These guys make them smoke for fun. It's the in thing. It's just as cancerous as the bumblebee sounding Hondas that drive down the strip at mach 10 on friday night.

how annoying.
All u joints changed, old axle shaft seals removed and now I just need to wait until tomorrow because no parts store had them in stock.

why would you call it 'roll coal' though. they should be called out on what is really going on; they're obviously just fart fetishists
