The FJ20ET is a good engine, many people swear by them. How ever there are less of them! i think the R30 would be more unique in England.
They're good engines and nearly bulletproof, I've heard that a lot, but it being so much rarer and harder to get parts for is really offputting. Not against custom fabbing stuff, I have the ability to do so, but some things you just can't. there's no UK specialist, I don't think the FJ20 came into the UK on anything. Wouldn't like to be left in a dead end over something that shouldnt be an issue.
picked this today for $350 [t]http://imgkk.com/i/7tf1.jpg[/t] runs, but the steering is seized. I tried searching for possible starting points but google just got me people who accidentally put on the steering lock and had no idea how to undo it I guess I'll tear down the steering box whenever I get to working on it and try to unstick it. not about to spend like $400 on a steering box for such a cheap car. the rust looks bad because of the light but really it's mostly just a healthy mix of surface rust and mud. just a few pinholes in the floor pan, nothing serious. Firstly the generator failed and i got a new one. So the mechanic put the new one in and it was good to go. The car felt fresh and full of "Life" So the next day i took it for a wash and afterwards i drove and suddently i heard a "bang" and when i hit the gas the car felt weak and it wont go further than 2000 RPM and the car was stuttering forward, Hit the gas again and released it and the car got " Pushed" forward. So i was trying to find a spot where i can stop and examine what the hell is going on and when i was making a left turn the car turned off and i had trouble to steer. So i called a friend and we towed the car. Fast fowarding, my mechanic became an asshole and told me to get it to a Saab workshop because he dont know what is wrong it but he told me it's a 1340. I googled, asked here and people responded with Cam shaft positioner. So today i bought a new positioner and 4 new Ignition coils because why not. I changed the 4 coils and took it for a drive but still the same. I'm still waiting for the positioner to arrive. So the car feels and behaves like it's suffocating. I'm sorry for being so shit at explaining it.
did you get the right coils?

Have a healthy dose of transformation tuesd...saturday! [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsf12meimw.jpeg[/thumb] Heres the truck I picked up. 2006 2500HD Chevy Duramax LBZ, One owner, bone stock 234k km, all the service records, full loaded, otherwise pretty clean truck. Came with a bed cover, onboard air with airbags, and a big fifth wheel so its a nice hauler. [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsbqsndltm.jpeg[/thumb] I bought a used 7" BDS lift and refurbished it all, painted everything, new hardware, and over 7 days of FIGHTING THE MOTHERFUCKER, put it in with help from numerous people. While I was putting it in I also did all the balljoints and put on new rotors It a was a fun but extremely frustrating project. It took 8 hours to get the siezed in torsion bars out. [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsrxnjglef.jpeg[/thumb] Then I found out that there was a left and right side, not fun! Tomorrow I'll be putting on the roll pan and getting an alignment done!
did you get the right coils?
ye they should be the right ones. Because i had a similiar problem back in Sep 2015 but it was because the coil in cyl 3 broke and i replaced it with the same ones i replaced yesterday. edit: Could it actually be the turbo that broke?

Those LBZ Duramax trucks aren't too bad, though they're really more of an onroad truck vs the other diesels due to the IFS IMO. Just about every owner I have talked to that actually uses them as a truck (8000lb+ trailers) complains of IFS related issues. I, hopefully, finished my cluster work yesterday. Swapped out my clock and voltmeter, cleaned gauges, adjusted speedometer (consistently read 10mph high.) Picture (please excuse the parts I have yet to restore, some are rare); [T]http://i.imgur.com/Tvd7bc9.jpg[/t]

I bought me an OBD 2 Adapter and downloaded a free obd app. And i got a couple of more codes. P1340 P0300 P0544 but the P1340 apeares almost on every scan i did and i did scan 4 - 5 times. So inspected the hood and found this loose Dropbox video So i put it back and reseted the ECU and took it for a drive. The car drove fine tbh, The turbo worked and i could accelerate normally. But that changed quickly after. Made me scratch my head wondering if the engine is on or off.

It likely has the turbo attached at the other end which might be why the engine wasn't seeing any boost. That plate behind it is the throttle plate. The white smoke looks like moisture burnoff. If you are burning coolant for real you'll have a nice PURE WHITE plume of smoke. Also you can put your hand near the exhaust to get it wet, then smell it. If it smells like coolant, then... or you can taste it. If it tastes like iron or water, it's nothing.

I built it as something really nice to drive around and as a daily I can happily throw some small mods into here and there. The IFS is pretty good, the stock tierods are twigs, and if you crank the torsion bars up you'll hurt your CV joints, but otherwise there isnt a whole lot to go wrong. It rides leagues better than the live axle dodges I've driven, even after lifting it, and has plenty of power to boot.

anyone got a 350z and if so is it a nice car and would you recommend it for a second car if i got it for £6000 or less can it be turbo'd or supercharged at all and if so easy or not
Again, there's no CPS on these cars, he probably bought the wrong coils (they HAVE to be from Saab), which sort of act as the CPS.
Not quite right here. Saabs do have crank position sensors, the coils do not act as a CPS. The coils contain knock sensors. There isn't a car built in the last 30 years with electronic fuel injection and at least semi computerized ignition that doesn't have at least one (even if it's for diagnostics). Two searches on Rockauto and autohaus Arizona led me to come up with this: So unless if European Saabs are completely different in every way from Americanized Saabs, every Saab since 1990 has had a Crankshaft Position Sensor. Additionally it might not be a bad idea to replace that tube that you were able to pull off.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaargh I just took the starter or of a '97 Saturn SL2 what the fuck were you smoking GM I have little tiny baby hands and I can barely fit them in the starter area, God now I have to put the replacement in. But for a second car, fuck yeah! £6000 isn't terrible, definitely on the lower end of the value spectrum from what my car hunting back then showed (mind you I live in New England in the US). Really depends on which trim it is, but if a pre purchase inspection from a reputable garage says it's good, go for it. Turboing is as doable as any car with multiple aftermarket turbo kits.
Dropped off the Ruby Saab at the shop where it's getting its manual swap today, guys who run it are super nice and are really excited to do the job. Can't wait to ditch this shit 3 speed auto.
So all of the cars were out in use today and Miata is in storage, since its superbowel sunday I couldn't possibly pass up delivering today and making hella $$$ But car has no fans, what do? I ordered the new fans and removed the old fans, cranked the heat to max and rolled down all the windows. Then I used the TORQUE app to monitor coolant temp levels. Highest it got was 93 C. I've also noticed that I'm not losing any more trans fluid, thinking the damn thing just puked out the pressure relief valve when it overheated. And here Ford tried to fuck me out of $2100 for a problem that was fixed for $110 and the other problem wasn't a problem at all.
since its superbowel sunday I couldn't possibly pass up delivering today and making hella $$$
Yep. I got the text this morning asking if I wanted to come in and work from 1 to 5, easy yes
