AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaargh I just took the starter or of a '97 Saturn SL2 what the fuck were you smoking GM I have little tiny baby hands and I can barely fit them in the starter area, God now I have to put the replacement in. [editline]7th February 2016[/editline] How would a big manly mechanic even attempt this with their big manly hands?
On the V6 ford escapes you have to take out the cv shaft and disconnectlower control arm to get at the alternator.

I got to watch almost 45 min of the game today between breaks
Spent tonight fixing both sides of the vette's lumbar supports/ other minor seat issues. Now both sides inflate and make the already cozy seats even more cozy! One of the support belts under the foam wasn't hooked on, that explained the slight sinking I felt on one side lol [t]https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/t31.0-8/11058145_957006414347150_4090698507671846817_o.jpg[/t]
Reminds me I got to drive my brother's Escape. What a sensory deprivation tank.
I think its better than my 4runner you really feel the road all of it all the time! Its not a smooth ride in the slightest. My Chrysler in the brief couple of short Jaunts in it,despite the age of the suspension was smooth as butter.
I had my lill bro pick m eunp from mey superbowl party in my old exoploodrer and on the way back I got super nostailigic. I kinda miss the car but not enough to be sad, but I really love that car and Im glad my lil bro likes it. It served me well, and it continues to server. Good on you explotrer.
I feel ya.
I replaced my throttle body with the non-FITV OBD2/D16Y8 throttle body on the Civic a couple days ago, replaced the throttle body gasket yesterday and it turns out I've had a vac leak since I did the MPFI swap months ago. Noticed that a very mild surge while cruising has slowly become just barely noticeable since the motor mounts are junk. There's a chip in the mounting area I can't tell if it's intentional to help the FITV flow on these older manifolds or not but it seems like it likely has been leaking or was now leaking when I just swapped it over. You can see the "chip" in the bottom right of the plenum opening, the one I am using is the clean one on the left. It seems both older manifolds have that "chip". [t]http://92lude.com/images/throttle_body_mod/Prelude_Throttle_Body_Mod_12.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/EF%20Pics/2015-07-30%2012.14.07.jpg[/t] By no longer using a throttle body with the open slot into the mounting surface and a gasket which matches that as well as a properly calibrated TPS/throttle stop screw it has fixed all my idle issues entirely. [t]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v375/garbageboxlove/car_94-del-sol/gsr_tb_w_gasket.jpg~original[/t] Got the base idle set down where it should be according to factory spec using the correct methods and everything is for the first time happy on the Civic since even the previous DPFI idled like shit IMO. The DPFI idled fine but it had a total mind of it's own on where it was going to idle. Expecting to see a jump in MPGs hopefully but I assume that I won't notice a uptick until I swap out the junk 4-1 stock 50mm exhaust mani held together with two bolts using a o2 sensor that has been sitting in a drawer for years from my Integra with 130k on it.
I wanted one so bad before I found out the maintenance isn't great for a DD/poor bastard like me. But for a second car, fuck yeah! £6000 isn't terrible, definitely on the lower end of the value spectrum from what my car hunting back then showed (mind you I live in New England in the US). Really depends on which trim it is, but if a pre purchase inspection from a reputable garage says it's good, go for it. Turboing is as doable as any car with multiple aftermarket turbo kits.
decent cheers, ive heard something about pre-2006 models only having syncromesh on the 1st and 2nd gears, i don't know if that's supposed to mean i have to double clutch or anything? [editline]8th February 2016[/editline] actually, found out by the time i've saved for it the insurance will be about 4 grand minimum. hmm.
Not quite right here. Saabs do have crank position sensors, the coils do not act as a CPS. The coils contain knock sensors. There isn't a car built in the last 30 years with electronic fuel injection and at least semi computerized ignition that doesn't have at least one (even if it's for diagnostics). Two searches on Rockauto and autohaus Arizona led me to come up with this: So unless if European Saabs are completely different in every way from Americanized Saabs, every Saab since 1990 has had a Crankshaft Position Sensor. Additionally it might not be a bad idea to replace that tube that you were able to pull off.
First off: that first video is of the wrong generation 9-3, which has a completely different engine. Second, those are both for replacing the CRANKshaft position sensor, not the camshaft position sensor. I've got the Saab Workshop Information System in front of me, and it says that the CDM receives the raw signal from the ignition coils, and calculates three signals which is transmits to the ECM: Knock signal, combustion signal cylinders 1 and 3, combustion signal cylinders 2 and 4. Which the ECM uses for knock control, ignition/injection syncronisation, and misfire detection. A bit more digging reveals that SAAB has used this system since the late 90s.

They make it look ricey, when the rest is basically factory.

Thanks for your insight, I'll keep out of the Saab world and stick to what I know.
It's fixed, Had nothing to do with the Crank Shaft. I just needed the original Ignition Coils and every code i got yesterday are gone now. I'm gonna try to return the pirate coils tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys.

Jesus I tought my car was rust bucket but its hardly anything compared to those :v:
[t]http://imgkk.com/i/pl19.jpg[/t] got the interior all stripped down and got a real handle on the rust situation. its actually better than I thought it was. only bad spots are a few pinholes near the pedals and some spots under the front seats. didn't get the steering unlocked because it wasn't the steering box and I don't have a 27mm socket to start eliminating things. I'll have to pick one of those up sometime this week. hoping to have it running and driving at least around the block by the end of the month and then I'll work on making it comfortable

I've got a squeak/whistle coming from the alternator (gets worse when headlights go on, windows are operated, fan turns on, etc, so I figured. Would this just be an issue of changing or adjusting the belt? Or may some other part of the alternator need attention? [editline]8th February 2016[/editline] I read cleaning gunk off the pulley can help
That little mexibug is covered in character. Its nice.
yeah I love it already. the guy I'm building it up for is dding it which is rad as hell. thankfully it's a close friend so I'm probably going to end up driving it plenty. based on the camaro he currently drives I'm pretty sure he can handle a classic car as a dd. it's an early fourth gen which is plenty old and abused enough that he knows how to stop on interstate and fix minor problems the wiring is ratty as hell so I'm going to have to build a new loom but that's no biggie, honestly it's less ratty than my dd truck. building wiring looms is how I started on classic cars and any of my customers would absolutely not contract my services if they saw how my truck was wired. other than that and the steering (which I've figured out and just dont have a big enough socket for) the rust and lack of interior parts is the only major problem with it. once I get a hold of all the tools I could definitely get it running by march. the guy we bought it from was one of those guys that buys junk cars and sells them again for $200 more but he had the thingfor several months and wanted it off his property so we just paid enough that he didn't lose money from it.so far we've got it nearly rolling for $700, and I could get the engine running tonight if I wanted to, since all I can figure is wrong with it is that the rings are stuck to the cylinder walls since it hasn't run in 25 years. the jets are in range for a typical beetle around this d/a but I don't know how blowby or valvetrain problemns are yet so who knows. I may end up reringing it iand lapping the valves but god knows at this point.
That's gorgeous! Agree with everyone about going back to stock tails.. then it'll be perfect.
Guess I'll order a pair of stock tail lights then :v:
I almost shit myself when there was steam coming out from the wheel arches and my grill when I parked at work. I spent a couple of moments to think about it, mostly worrying about how everything including my street cred was probably fucked. But hey, turns out that driving through huge puddles makes your engine's surfaces and brake pads wet. This creates steam... :why:

looks like you'd chop my 86 apart on sight and rebuild the whole thing ;_;
Bring it on

The owner seems like he's cool, and it doesn't look like everything was hacked together. It sounds good too, unlike most Hondas.
