Time to sell the Talon! It was fun fooling around with it, but time for it to go. http://wausau.craigslist.org/cto/5442790014.html
Well that marvel mystery oil has really quieted down my lifters. Like, it clatters for under a minute on a cold start but then it's silent. Soooooo nice. Anyway, getting an all-oil oil change tomorrow... hope it stays quiet!
Your lifters were making noise for more than a minute on a cold start at idle?
Sometimes old hydraulic lifters stick and make a ticking noise throughout the day to day life of an older and higher mileage motor.
Your lifters were making noise for more than a minute on a cold start at idle?
Oh boy, they could make noise all damn day. Slithers is right about them being hydraulic. Old? You be the judge, 111k During tonight's shift they've actually been a little noisier than the past couple days... clatter until I pull onto the main road and get some revs going. Status: losing hope
I love having Hondas. No matter how much you adjust the valves, mess with the oil or "clean" the fuel injectors. It's just going to tick like fucking hell and burn plenty of oil. I assume if I actually sent my injectors off to get sonic cleaned/rebuilt they would actually be quiet though. The screwdriver test also seems to suggest they are the noisiest things on both my cars aside from the Civic's garbage exhaust manifold leak. Anyways, my Civic has some sweet 195/60/14 BFGoodrich G-Force Super Sport all season rubber on order. I was also greatly impressed by them as my tire shop informed me that they are non-directional and I am free to flip them when they wear to shit on the insides as per the FWD Honda standard. I'm somewhat disappointed though since my beater will have nicer rubber on it than my personal car. Oh well, hopefully the GF won't be able to wreck it as easy.
Sometimes old hydraulic lifters stick and make a ticking noise throughout the day to day life of an older and higher mileage motor.
I know it happens, just didnt know that it happens to vehicles the entire time its running. My lifters make noise for 10s average at idle when its cold out and continue to make noise under power until the engine gets to 110f or so
Was just talking to my buddy while he was sitting at a gas station and a lowered pickup attempted to drift a roundabout, jumped a curb and hit a parked car. :v:
My Corollabortion does similar, some days she's quiet, some days she rattles. Maybe I'll try burning a little of that stuff and see if it helps. Can't hurt.
Few questions: Is the G1W or whatever it is called now still the best budget dash cam? And what's a reliable place to get one? And what is a good wireless OBD2 reader and app for iOS? The most popular reader seems to be android only and all the other readers and apps for iOS have spotty reviews.
Yes, the G1W series is still the best budget cam. I bought some $30 cam in a bind that had good reviews after my G1WH was stolen. My god it sucks, night footage has so many artifacts that it's unusable. The G1WH wasn't like insane HD quality, but it makes this camera I have look like some kids toy camera. I can't remember where I got mine. I actually bought a G1W from a reliable source after buying my G1WH and was sent a fake. Highest quality fake I've seen, so I kept it.
Your lifters were making noise for more than a minute on a cold start at idle?
I've got hydraulic lifters in my 300k vortec and they make a buttload of noise. I could probably adjust that out but cba it's close as hell to needing a rebuild. same reason I haven't fixed the oil leak
Hhhmmm, my explorer has 230k on it and has the trademark 4.slow lifter tick. Ive just accepted it, but i wonder what some mystery oil would do to it.

That's the whole point of them.
The lifters in my old clio 182 were noisy as fuck, worried me for a while but everyone i mentioned it to didnt seem to be concerned. It was actually a little embarrassing idling in a drive through because all you can hear was TICKTICKTICKTICKTICK
My lifters don't make any noise unless its starting below 50F or it is in need of an oil service.
Area 2 complete [t]http://puu.sh/n47aI.jpg[/t] Area 3... not started yet
Hydraulic lifters are non serviceable. That's the whole point of them.
that's not exactly true. some are non serviceable, some are adjustable, especially aftermarket ones.
Ughh there's a Subaru Brat in alabama going for $6,900 right now. If it were the Turbo Brat, or one of the 70's models, or even one with factory jump seats, it'd be about right. Blue book is $2500 high retail because of that, but i'd say that, if it's in as good of shape as it appears, it may be worth $3500 if the recent work was done properly.
Im in florida for the week and ive noticed two things: Ive only seen three cars older than 2005 the entire time here. One in six drivers have no idea what those dotted lines on the roads mean, drive 10mph slower than the limit, brake erratically, and get extremely angry when there is someone in the way of them merging without using the blinker. If these two things have anything to do with each other, it makes me extremely afraid for how new cars are getting more and more "user friendly".
when I was in Pensacola buying that beetle I saw probably 25 classic cars.
Well here in orlando ive seen an 80s chevy truck down the street from where were staying, a clapped out slammed ricey 90s civic, and an early 2000s caddy. Absolutely everything else is less than 3 years old. Its a dealerships wet dream.
Well now the car is quieter than last night, which makes me wonder if it's the oil changes that help versus the MMO. Time will tell I guess. [editline]11th February 2016[/editline] Also why is my car literally higher in the front after handing it over to the dealer lol. Does getting lifted into the air cause your suspension to desettle or something?

Been think'n about picking up a set for my GMT400 but all I've seen that are not built for the newer chevys all make the mirrors point up like this. \|Cabhere|/ and when you stick them on the proper trucks they stay level....
