My dads car makes a wierd noise when going over a speed bump or anything similar.
Could it be the shock absorbers or something else?

Any movable part that links the wheels to the car actually.
Technically a dual clutch automatic transmission is going to be shifting faster, significantly faster, than a traditional 3 pedal manual. We're talking like the blink of an eye for shifting.
However, old style automatic transmissions (almost everything on the road that isn't geared towards performance currently, dual clutch is only just creeping into mainstream) still shift slowly. The addition of these new 'sport shift' automatics where you control the shift point a little more with paddle shifters or popping the shifter forward/back is nothing more than a piece of programming withing the transmission control computer that allows it to rev up quite high, instead of shifting on its own whims. Thusly, just like a manual, you get to wind it up into the power band of the RPM range for more spirited driving. The shifts aren't faster than a manual (unless you suck at driving manual), however the control a manual affords you as far as choosing what RPM range to be in is allowed with them.
Are they being used in professional motor sports at all? Or is it only just a civi thing at this point?

muffler bearings might be loose from it's housing, it's a worn component

dual clutches are used in supercars and racecars. It's becoming more and more normal, and not exclusive as clutch2 said.

Is there a way to know for sure what is causing it? The car feels abit uncomfy while driving and you hit a hole or go over a speed bump.
Seat dampeners.
Yeah it's gotta be the seat dampeners.
I have a related question. Are torque converter transmissions still preferred for straight-line speed, since you never have to come off the gas to shift up?
Probably all depends on who you talk to. From my understaning bracket racing favors the auto trans simply for the ability to nail the same time over and over. But I'm not big into racing in general, so that's just what I've been lead to understand.
Also.. my vinyl and heat press showed up!

Is it supposed to make a pretty loud noise coming from the front when you hit a speed bump?

I'm looking to to put in a nice sub/amp system in my car. For now I just want an amp for the subs, I'll grab an amp for speakers in a few months. Can anyone give me some ideas on what to get? Obviously i don't know much about car audio. Looking to spend around 600-700 for subs and amp. Doesn't need to include an enclosure.

My man, with that budget you'll get a hell of a system.
Let's elaborate to find the right stuff.
-what car?
-do you want loud and bangin, or something clean and clear? Or a little of both?
-what type of music do you listen to a lot of?
-looking to save trunk space or anything?
-would you rather have a larger, more eye appealing setup, like a pair of 12s? or do you like the look of 1 sub?
We'll go from there :)

- Olds Alero (teah shit grandma car but i desperately needed one.)
- i guess both? I listen to a lot of bass heavy music like krewella, nickt romero, , tiesto, deadmau5, skrillex, etc. I want to feel it in the front seat but i dont need it to be a vibrator if that makes sense
- I'd like to keep some trunk space.
- prefer 2 12's though i dont think I'd mind having 2 seperate enclosures if it's better.

I was checking this out as i heard JL is one of the best http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700BPKJL8/JL-Audio-500-Watt-Bass-Package.html
You dont need a dual clutch for racing. As far as I can tell, a lot of the Outlaw 10.5 and Pro-mod cars such as my dad run a heavily modified 3 speed chevy TH400 well into the low 6 high 5s quarter mile. Granted there isnt much original, it isnt no magic dual clutch computer controlled trans, the most would be an air shifter. The valve body is manual so you can ride it out to 10000rpm for all it gives a shit and it'll take that and 4500hp

I'm betting it's your muffler bearings. I bet he's got the original ones.
Seriously though, there's so much it could be, we have no chance of guessing what it is. Your best bet is going under his car, look for any cracked rubber and start shaking stuff around, look for excessive play.

Aren't 9-3s known for eating their own springs in such a way that the car will feel like that?
No idea, don't have too much experience with 9-3s. Anyways, it's his dad's car, not his 9-3.

That's a nice package, and JL Audio is some of the best 'mainstream' stuff on the market, but good lord are they over priced.
My go to has been SoundQubed lately, try out this setup. It'll beat the trunk off the car.
2x of these (in dual 2 ohm) - $220
http://www.soundqubed.com/HDS212_p_221.html
1x of these - $270
http://www.soundqubed.com/Q1-12002-Amplifier_p_30.html
1x amp power kit, I like Sky High - $70
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oversized-4-Ga-OFC-AWG-Amp-Kit-Twisted-RCA-BLUE-Black-Complete-Sky-High-Car-/272032703239?hash=item3f5669a307:g:YdMAAOSw5ZBWNPS~
And then if you want, which I personally recommend, build yourself a nice box for the those 12's. If you want ported something along the lines of 4 cu ft ported @ 32hz or so. That'll hit low and clean, and loud with that setup.
Or if you'd like to just lock and load - $80;
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777BB1221V/Sound-Ordnance-Bass-Bunker.html?tp=61651
For comparison's sake, I use a single one of those subs (in a 15", though) on a 600w Cadence amp in a ported box this spring for a Grandamnit, and it beat really really good. The kid liked listening to rap and stuff, and just a single 15 did work for that. 2 x 12s would smash.
