1. Rust. This is obvious if it's bad or not. Around here rust kills all the good Hondas, Toyotas, etc. They're running strong but unsafe because of structural compromise at the suspension mounting points.

I just took my 91 Camry in for a belt change and some other misc stuff and they wouldn't even put it on the lift because it is apparently falling to pieces :ohno:
Aww fuck I'm itching for a project and this one is staring at me auughh

My stepdad has one of the 1100 models... One year only bike.
It sucks. Parts are wayyyyy to fucking hard to find. In a year we have yet to get it to run more than 30 seconds.
It's a maxxium. And the ignition just randomly decides "no more spark for you."
I dig my XS750, shaft drive is pretty cool.
I sent in my application for hobbyist plates for the NSX today.. hopefully their 2 month turn around really is only about 2 months, because the registration expires April 30th and I don't want to not be able to drive it because I'm waiting for GD plates :v:
IIRC between 55 and 65MPH is considered highway speed and is where your engine is most efficient.
My car seems to get optimal fuel economy at about 75mph

I think he's talking specifically about my Crown Vic since he's a police and probably knows best about them.
However, his police cars are all equipped with 3.23-3.73 rear ends, whereas I have 2.73's so I'm even more efficient, if much slower.
help this video is going to make me buy another E36

[sp]even tho there are some really shitty overdone stances in here[/sp]
Bought another motor and transmission for the MR2 the other day (for $100!!!! and I needed the trans too because my transmission has the infamous 5th gear pop out that they had in the 85 and 86 model years) because I guess my current motor decided it was gonna have some bottom end knock.
I got lucky because I guess Prime Performance is less than two hours from me, and this motor has 110k on it and is out of an Alabama car that they did a 3SGTE swap with.

So, I want to tear it down and give it new gaskets, do timing belt, etc but I haven't done it before. Is there anything I should know?
Or is there anything in particular I should check out or do to it?

Not really, mang. The 4A-GE is pretty simple and forgiving. Make sure you line the damn timing marks up is about it. Change the oil and water pump while you have the engine apart.
Oh dear.. I went to check out that SRT4 today. All it needs is a hood. One headlight has a crack and the bumper has a cracks, which look like 'normal' wear for a daily driver, basically.
Then I drove it. And it's really fun. Like, really fun. The blowoff is loud. The exhaust has a ridiculous backrap when you coast.
It's rust free.. new timing belt, new water pump. Almost stock with only like an intake and that little stuff. Comes with 2 sets of rims, steelies and SRT4 stock. good tires on both. It's amazing. All for $3250.
So that leaves me with an issue, a choice.
Buy it and drive it and daily it.. but what about the Corollabortion daily right now?? It's so reliable and saves boatloads on gas and maintenance. Plus I'd feel horrible driving this rust free machine in winter.
Buy it and fix it (aka put on a new hood) and flip it.. maybe drive it for the summer. Either way it'd be like a $6k car give or take.
Let my buddy who I brought with buy it, because he's geekin out and wants it, too.
The difficult lives we live.
OR you could yank that srt4 powerplant and put it in an A-body... It's been done but it needs to be done again.
Going through the engine I can confirm it's been rebuilt. I am going to pull the head and see what pistons were put in, then I got some new ARP head studs to go on, ring the block, then put the head back.

I also got the fuel blockoff as seen above, and pulled the fuel pump, and put that on.

Not a drop of oil on the pump, just assembly fluid from where it touched the cam. The distributor gear also just had assembly fluid on it, but the dizzy was clearly out of a junkyard. I have three others so I'm just going to chose the cleanest of those.

Electric pump in the back means no need.

It got all stripped, and was surprised to see grade 8 bolts pretty much everywhere. Someone really wanted to do a nice job and the P.O. just tossed it in a truck after he yanked it out of the hot rod he bought it in.
Thermostats also make a great mask for not getting paint in the water outlet hole.

The valve cover is being removed, modified, and repaired - and painted a different color.
The theme I'm going for is Stormtrooped basically, with copper accents.
Nice lookin progress dude!
Oh I forgot, the copper is the standoff color, and then there will be black and then of course white. The other thing I'm going to factor in is that the vacuum lines will not be rubber hose - instead be solid malleable copper tubing with just rubber ends to attach to each thing. There's a lot of lines on a turbo engine so it should look pretty wild. I intend to do a similar treatment with the fuel line, etc... with copper clamps holding each tube down to various parts of the engine.

Thank you for the tip! I'm really nervous about messing something up somehow lol
Mmm, I've seen people do that with hardlines for airride/ hydraulics, and for the 'wiring' inside clear sub enclosures.. done right it will look sooo badass. I can dig it.
When you spend $2000 on 4 wheel wilwood disc brakes for a 44 year old car because you made it too fast

Thinking of getting an open air filter on my Saab, I love the sound it makes. Is it worth it?
My car only gets above 20 mpg when it's falling out of a plane
mine is lucky to break 12 when its falling out of a plane
Thinking of getting an open air filter on my Saab, I love the sound it makes. Is it worth it?
I'm assuming you mean a cone style filter?
Unless it's routed into the fender, it's not worth it.
If it's just about anywhere else, it sucks in hot air and reduces power over the OEM intake.
Every intake I have done uses the stock filter, with modified tubing. They recieve cold air from outside the engine bay, providing a slight (3-6HP) increase in power, as well as fuel economy. Cone filters provide sound, but no other benefits.
Edit;
My pickup still averages 19-20USMPG. I'm happy with it, considering it's 31 years old and is a 4x4 3/4 ton truck.
the new 124 spider i keep seeing looks pretty neat

Only for the sound, doesn't do anything else
Thinking of getting an open air filter on my Saab, I love the sound it makes. Is it worth it?
They do literally nothing but small sound change
Just bought a new fiat 500!

Not sure about your 9-3, but my 9-5 has the air intake infront of the passenger wheel, so putting a pod filter on it would only make the temps higher and give it a bit better sound.

Do you have a Classic 900 or not? Of all the saabs that is the only one that I could think of having any benefit. If not the sound would be the only thing worth it.

Could also build a heat shield around it. Hell, some intakes come with shields as part of the setup. But yeah, ideally, you get increased air flow going to it to really reap the benefits. Easier on some cars than others. Also best paired with a more free flowing exhaust, as the idea is to get air to flow both in and out better, not just in.
Been eyeing I believe a K & N air intake for the Miata, has a heat shield as I mentioned. Probably won't put on a headlight NACA duct panel as I've read they may effect autocross classes. Plus, It's a low priority because from what I've read, the intake itself will make the biggest difference. The turn signal intakes for example, those apparently barely make a difference. I'm sure the NACA duct on the headlight is a bit better though, as people have mentioned they've seen water in the bay from rainy days. Not so much the case with turn signal intakes.
