I thought on non euro crap it really doesn't matter if you use ATF or PSF. I've also herd that ATF is thinner plus has seal conditioner in it already. But I know for sure eurocrap HATES anything but CHF 11-S or w.e
I can say that PSF is thicker than ATF by a bit, probably 15-20% thicker, maybe more. It seems to me that it lubricates more than ATF does.
I know that my manual and cap state to only use PSF, while forums online advise against using ATF in the system.
Since it is a hydroboost system, not a standard power steering system, I'd imagine the fluid type is pretty important. I'm still learning the system myself, it's very different from standard systems.
I kinda want a tbird tc
Here ya go Lerlth. Kinda cruddy video, but it's fun.

Damn man, nothing but turbo and blow off. Haha.
Have you ever just wanted to fuck up a Volvo?

That seems like a lot of weight reduction for track day.

gotta make room for that sick camber bro
Is that last generations XC90?
De-baffled the exhaust on the 750 the other day using a 2-1/8" holesaw, and lots of cutting oil. Ended up with some very nasty holes, lots of scratches and pokey bits as the holesaw jumped around. Went to Fastenal and grabbed 2 hardened 3.75" washers, cleaned up the scratches/edges on the muffler using a dremel and a sanding wheel, then did 4 small welds to hold the washers over everything. Didn't turn out half bad, if I don't say so myself, and now I have pure v-twin sex noise as I fly down the road. Seriously, sounds great for such a small amount of work.

No, first.
It was just on the right side of the tipping point of becoming a wreck by the insurance company.
Save yourself a lot of trouble and get rid of the X Type. Please, save yourself.
Why do you say that?
I did a lot of research beforehand, and i know two longtime members of JCNA as well as two retired jaguar mechanics, and the consensus between all of that was that as long as you refresh the fluid in the transfer cases and differentials every 75-100k, it'd be very unusual for an X type to have any real problems before 350k.
Maybe you're thinking of the 2000-2003ish XJ's? They had timing chain problems that would cause major cracking in the blocks which was fixed as production went on

I'll have to get an outside vid, it sounds neat!
One of my buddies picked up an absolutely mint 97 camaro Z28 30th anniversary, with a fucking 6 speed, for 3900 dollars.
I'm so fucking jealous. He also sold his jeep, which had a blown engine, for 2500 dollars.
Lucky fucker.
one of the rear brake calipers seized on the wagon last night. ordered all new calipers rotors pads and brake hoses. got everything for next to nothing since I still get parts at cost from my old job. also going to replace the bad wheel bearing while I have the brakes off. shits gonna drive so nice afterwards.

mmmmm, I agree, straightpiped jap vtwin is one of my favorite sounds
I was cleaning the new motor with only paper towels, two wire brushes and 409.
That's a hell I never want to experience again.

You did it the hard way. Spray the whole thing with undiluted simple green, then hose it off in two hours. Done it on every boat engine ever covered in gas and oil and other wonderful dirt.
I was originally going to use Simple Green, but I guess I ran out at some point so I had to improvise :(
I got a lot of it off, but I'm definitely going to take another go at it all soon once I get a chance to run to the store.
simple green is okay, But I enjoy stuff that if you let it sit in the solution overnight it melts.
Makes your have that warm fuzzy felling when you have that much power in a liquid form.
Like someone painted my beetles engine tins blue, Made a nice tub of purple power and set the tins in the solution. No more blue paint.

SImple green removes the paint too if you let something soak in it.
What's a decent, cheap way to completely clean auto parts? I've been working on cleaning up my dad's shop, making some room for cleaning that bike carb, and found some pistons that'd make cute coin trays/ashtrays. Do I just soak them in kerosene/gas overnight?

soaking in diesel works well

You can put stuff in a big tub of molasses and it will clean it up, but i think it takes about a month. Works for carburetors real good.
So I think friday I'm going to start to really investigate this motor. Today we pulled one of the cam covers off and they seemed okay, but we only checked one of them quickly, definitely will take a closer look later.
I'm going to take my time, but I'm incredibly nervous about this whole thing because I admittedly don't have a hell if a lot of experience tearing down engines.
Is there anything I should know? Any particular things I shouldn't do? I've been doing some 4AGE research but any advice helps. Thanks!

This shit is liquid death. I swear they changed the formula though, because when I sprayed it before I used to coff a bunch, now I haven't once. Still works good, but maybe not as good as it used to

Never use it without gloves.
I scrubed afew parts before for only a few minutes and gained grandpa hands. I had to re introduce oil back into my hands because it took all the oil out of my hands.
I'm freaking out basically. I've always kinda of shrugged and dipping cars because it's "just not the same" since you couldn't get a gloss finish.. and I'm all about a wet paint job. I thought wraps were cool since vinyl replicates a pretty nice OEM finish.
Well.. that's all changed I see. This new crap "AutoFlex" just came out.. a new peelable paint system that's durable, sandable, buffable, polishable, waxable.. and most importantly... glossy.
Look at this shit. Amazing.

Purple power is kind of crap, if you leave it on aluminum for anything more than a literal few seconds you will etch the living fuck out of it.

I have super dry hands from my icthyosis anyway so I don't even bother. it burns if I have a cut but otherwise is fine

Or if you go through all that trouble you can just... you know... paint the car...
