My Carputer is refusing to boot in this cold, so I ordered a Raspberry Pi 2 to throw OpenELEC on so I can hack together a working machine that will at least play my music on the touch screen. It won't run my customized Winamp skin that I'm used to at this point, but I might be able to modify an XBMC / Kodi skin to work for my needs. I'm also tempted to try one of those "Compute sticks" or a cheap chinese Windows 8.1 machine that's essentially a tablet motherboard shoved in a plastic case, the Intel NUC was a bad idea for Northern Ontario. I don't want to put too much effort or money into it right now, I'm still pretty set with getting a new car in the spring / summer. Android Auto is going to be a must, preferably OEM but aftermarket would probably do the trick if I really fall in love with another car.
I can pretty much guarantee the Chinese computes won't work in subzero weather. I was considering them for a thing we were going to do at work for installation in Utah and those things shut down at ~0* Fahrenheit.

What did you guys end up using for that project?

I would have just used a Rspberry Pi 2 with a very light heating element.
Yeah, I don't want to hear excuses. Drop dimes like you at strip club. I can't remember who here owns and NSX... Clutch2? I found this a while back about swapping an engine into the NSX that's lighter, more power, and smaller in size. http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showthread.php/176807-The-quot-J-quot-Swap Near bolt up.
That J-swap thread has been a good read unfolding for a while now. Seems viable, since NSX powerplants are pretty pricey if you manage to toast one beyond repair. This guy engineer'd brackets and all sorts of cool stuff to make it basically bolt in!
[thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpsrojo6eia.jpeg[/thumb] Fuck me this thing just got 10000000000000x cooler [thumb]http://i1067.photobucket.com/albums/u423/Lawblind/Mobile Uploads/image_zpsrxyshgmb.jpeg[/thumb] Engine is in, headers are in, transmission is in (fuck you transmission, neverending supply of tranny fluid), i actually didnt have to make a single dent in the headers! Something is hung up because the engine isnt sitting properly so i have to tackle the tomorrow.

So this MK IV I was following sold on ebay for $16k; http://www.ebay.com/itm/262230986689?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It's an N/A Targa 5spd with a turbo swap, rough paint/body work, gross painted interior, rough upholstery, etc. Is that a crap price? I'm trying to figure out why it only got 1 bid. Even clean N/As with stock engine go for like 20k. A factory turbo is 35k+ all day with the 5spd. It's rough in appearance, but clean title.. I feel like it should've gotten more bids. Interesting.
Fuck I'd scoop that up for 16k canadian purely because its LHD. Someone here has a LHD supra they got for a song right? That'd go for way more if it didnt have the shitty front splitter, nicer more fitted rims, and a little lower ride height
Something is happening to me. The diesel and carbon must be soaking into my skin. I no longer want to go fast, I want to drive something huge and pull stuff. Oddly enough, I have been driving my car much faster lately. If I'm not doing at least 10 over, then I'm following someone.

I feel like if you scooped up an RHD Supra MKIV in Canadia these days the price would sky rocket the day it becomes legal to import into the US. Look at R32 GTRs.. US legal, 20k. Can legal, 12k. Or so it seems.
hey fuck you Valon for still owning a stupid amount of cool, rare vehicles.
I've only got the duster and the dart now! I downsized and sold the other 3 dusters. Gotta share the classics!! Its not even that rare, but you said you had a hell of a time finding decently priced nice ones.
I found a jeep in its natural habitat. Watch as it takes action to avoid predators.

[editline]16th January 2016[/editline] I'm just gonna go cry in this here corner and wish I had a 40x60 shop and free time to work on things.
That is rather expensive... I'm almost tempted to get one of those shitty 12V heaters to "preheat" the Intel NUC.
Something along those lines was my plan for the Rpi2's. You just need to make sure you get something that's got a proper thermostat in it, or make a temperature regulator circuit yourself. You just need to get it reasonably above freezing, after all.
Remember when the heater core was leaking in my golf ? Well... theres a sheen of "oil" on all windscreens from inside I tried everything i had in my house.. How do i get rid of it ? Fucking hell i dnno what to do

After a particularly crap year, I just recently got a job at a parts store! Unless some disaster strikes I'll be starting some time next week. I'm actually pretty excited about it despite some of the stories I've read :v: Maybe I'll finally have something to post about around here
Tried a bit of washing up liquid?
I can give it a try
Not as pretty or expensive as valons but it works. When i get home ill show you guys my shop improvement project.

Finding some that are remotely capable of being restored for a reasonable price on the other hand... impossible.
If you have a way of getting a car from Canada down to you, with the way our dollar is, you're laughing http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/hamilton/71-duster-with-440-big-block/1123220530?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/penticton/71-340-duster/1118265945?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true I paid $9500 for mine I think, redone interior, new tires, largely rust free, but the engine had a bad hole. I cant find many similar ones for sale. I'm really fortunate to have the facility and tools available to me, a couple times my dad complains about it being old and cramped and I put him in his place. We're planning on expanding to a 120x40 sometime this year if all goes good. [editline]16th January 2016[/editline] Oh thats not an exoskelton dodge! I thought you meant the Dart haha! My dad is building a new welding deck for his work truck! I'll grab some pictures tomorrow!
Welp, we just got enough snow to make the car pretty, but not enough to have fun in.... But oh well, quick photo time since I'm sick with the flu again.... [t]http://i.imgur.com/TNPjTSd.jpg[/t]
I'm thinking about buying a super cheap beater to learn how to drive manual.
Hmmm A 1989 Acura Integra RS for $575. Tempting, if it wasn't winter.
The D16A1 DOHC ZC is pretty great and the later year blacktop is really good actually. 130hp out of a 1.6 from the early 80's. That's the basically the same as the CA18ET 1.8 single cam turbos from Nissan of the same years. The transmissions are geared just about perfect for the motor too. They're highly underrated cars and back in the day they did extremely well in most of the racing series they entered. Comptech did great with them but I cannot find any pictures even and google is failing me hard.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/4p8aFLr.png[/thumb] Hello car guys! I was just reviewing the snow footage from 2 weeks ago and figured it's hard to take a good still shot. Might as well start posting here since i have a car for about 5 months now.

Apparently it needs brakes, although if it just needs new rotors or something more indepth, I have no idea. There are a bunch of beater trucks too
Surprisingly, I replaced the battery in my fob after its been dead for 2+ years and it worked immediately. Didnt have to reprogram it at all.
