Are new struts really that expensive?
Are new struts really that expensive?
$20-35USD, depending on the one yours takes. I've never had luck finding good ones at junk yards, but you csn get them for a couple dollars there.

It's $18 shipped for a pair. They're $7.50 each at this junkyard. Personally if I wasn't on a "every penny counts" budget, I'd just get them online but whatever.
Does anyone have any experience manufacturing carbon fibre parts? I've been thinking about producing some special parts for the racecar (mostly interior pieces). By now I know the how to, just curious to see if any people here have any experience with it.
First 20+c day of the year. Time for the annual "Pull everything out of the car and clean that shit", followed by "Treat all the new rust and rock chips from the last year before a wash and then a wax"

If I'm lucky the parts I need for installing the dashcam and the GPS logger will come in either today or tomorrow while the car is empty.
By the way, I know that delamination usually means you gotta repaint but what can I use to mitigate it? The middle of my hood is getting covered in little pin sized spots.

Came back with the right bit and the bolt heads snapped off as soon as I put pressure on them. Someone cut them halfway through then gave up. :speechless:
Another orange W123 estate has showed up by the port to Denmark

Looks to be basically identical to mine, it's almost scary. It's already relatively rare as an estate and basically extinct in this orange colour, so seeing another one being imported feels weirdly good, haha.

Hey guys,
I finally got a car I can be proud of!!:

No not that car, that one I've had for nigh on 6 months now and its broken down 6 times ish, I've had:
Head gasket repair
New lambda sensor
Two new tyres and a re-track
New Relay
New Fan belt
New water pump
New Spark plugs and starter
So in short it's been a nightmare. I've finally bitten the bullet and gotten something more reliable... Audi A3 S-Line 1.4 TFSI 150bhp, petrol. This is the first car I can truly be proud of.

Damn that's quite the upgrade, congratulations !
Another great thing about SUV convertibles:

Yes, I pulled them out of the car first!

Thanks man, its the finest car I've ever had the pleasure of driving, I'll take a couple of shots of the interior too. Certainly feels like a premium car.
Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable pressure washing the inside of any car!

A video demonstrating how the rear seats of police cars are cleaned
So I've got tomorrow off since i just finished about 95% of a garage remodel. Those who know about Serj/Dave know he is having a third child, sometime within the next 15 days hopefully. (due date is 15th) and we've been driving the 99 Durango that I scored but it gets like 11mpg so I'm looking at a 3rd car off craigslist tomorrow. My fiancee' likes visiting her mom A LOT now, which is fine, but it's like 35 miles away from us, and across a bridge so it is kind of adding up, and she wants to also be able to drop the new baby off with her to let her watch him and have like weekend outings and whatnot. I'm not selling the Durango since it is a good car, so just gonna have 3 cars now. The Dart is about to be under the knife in the shop too, so it's good timing I think to go hunt something down, then turn the Durango into a work truck instead of a family car. Oh grown up problems and shit...
Good for you Serj, congrats. Bringing another little well-bearded dart pimping badass into the world.
This guy on Reddit got the new MX-5 in the same trim, color, and options as what I want. Now I get to stare at his 3 pics on Imgur for a year until I can get mine.

So apparently I drive my car hard enough to shred a nut off of a Moog swaybar endlink. Since they supply bushings which should only be about 2/3rds of the size they actually are to attach to the lower control arm I had to take them to the good ol' bushing bench grinder before installing them. You know, as per any non-oem honda aftermarket replacement bushing as well as leverage the weight of the car to compress the bushings. I'd really like to not do that again so I just need the basic bushings which are shared across most Hondas.
Turns out the lower nut didn't like that and shot off in an explosive manner which sounded like I snapped something serious a few weeks ago. So it seems like we're gonna have to find some properly sized bushings which aren't a good bit more than twice the size of the worn out OEM ones.
Okay, so the part number of the OEM bushing contains SH3! That means it's a part intended for the EF hatchback which of course I have one and who's parts are probably still being used on brand new hondas even. Okay well all the aftermarket parts pretty much spec out the same to 88-00 Civics and 94-01 Integras and sometimes the 90-93's too. No surprise there.
But wait, Honda doesn't call for the same part number for a US 90' Civic Hatchback... Instead it's calling for a really old style/generic part number which doesn't have a internal code which usually is specific to a chassis and it's a two piece design(not bushing cast onto washer)? Oh okay but it specs out to like a 89 Accord/90 Prelude? Well that's fine but okay... Well how about the 84-87 Civics and 86-89 Integras? Well those spec together with a SB2 part and the upper and lower bushings on the link have different part numbers. But aftermarket parts sites all lump the Accord/Preludes that actually share with the EF Civics with the 1st gen Integra/3rd gen Civics? Ergh...
So basically there's one design, the 3rd gen Civics/1st gen Integras had 3 of the same bushings and the one upper part of the lca on one link had a different bushing. The rest of the cars use one of those same bushings but of different designs/sources and I'm assuming the Japanese SiR had an uprated bushing with a better design which ended up becoming the standard for the most part. However, despite all these bushings being the same aftermarket suppliers have decided instead to supply some generic ass bushing/link who's bushing's actually spec to everything from Sentras to Scion TC's for the most common applications. Now this works perfectly fine with the standard straight link with a nut/bolt and 4 bushings but this doesn't work one fucking bit when you use those bushings on a ball joint style link with a stud and bushings which are overall the fucking size of the fucking stud. Not to mention the pictures of these somehow have the correct bushings in them.

Integras with the GSR/Type-R/99-01(not 98...) Integra larger front swaybar used a ball joint design on the swaybar side while retaining the non ball joint style LCA. I have this so half of my link is the normal style for this platform and I need just those bushings.
Like come the fuck on, anyone can see this part(left) can almost not bolt together with a swaybar and a LCA jammed between them. The washers are designed to space off this larger than stock bushing even more so when the stock washers actually recess in slightly. This is a Moog part, they're generally considered to be the best of the china shitheap that is aftermarket replacement parts.
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/DC%20Pics/moog-moog-k90123-large-2.jpg[/t][t]http://i859.photobucket.com/albums/ab152/yebabee/endlinkcompare.jpg~original[/t]
Thankfully there's three different sizes that are made. The wrong(large) one which are the only aftermarket ones which spec to any 88-00 Civic/90-01 Integra/88-91 Preludes and many more cars. The correct one, which aftermarket only sells for 86-89 Accords but not the 88-91 Civics/88-91 Preludes it shares part numbers with. The correct one also incorrectly specs to but similarly related 86-89 Integras however not 84-87 Civics which are the only thing that it actually shares part numbers with. There's also a even smaller one which only specs out to 90-97 Accords, 92+ Accords and 1st gen Odyssey's which could be useful but seems to actually be correct.
tl;dr Part numbers are decently straight forward but aftermarket parts manufactures completely disregard OEM part numbers, applications and OEM specs because they don't give a single fuck and want to sell you garbage. Despite the part being functionally identical for 20 years the industry has innovated in fucking things like this up.
I'm up early for other purposes but I think I'll design a new switch for the parking brake so I can let the dash cam record only when the brake is off.
Even stranger, the 90-93 Integra bushings are specific only to themselves and the Integra Type-R. It's almost a shame the Integra didn't continue the trend of the DA to have suspension bits designed for itself instead of using the entire Civic parts bin but then again that's part of it's charm is that it's a still a Civic without being a shitty Civic lol.

All of this is similar to my trying to obtain an inner axle seal for my RSX-S. Aftermarket was completely wrong in terms of fitment. I was working on this shit Sunday afternoon, so I wasn't gonna get any help in OEM form. Finally mic'ed out the correct seal that was listed for some Accord with a manual. I feel your frustration.
Ok my driver side window regulator has died on me I already have the replacement, but I'm wondering does anyone know about how difficult it is to replace and if I need any special tools and what not? I have a 94 Mitsubishi 3000GT here is the actual part for reference http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewItemBundle.asp?idProduct=24386
I'm debating putting it on myself or *ugh* paying like 200$ in labor to have it put on.
Well, the dude said he was off to work so I had to come look or wait till monday. Salvage title, whatever though. The price was a steal - $6,500 for a 6ish year old car. The lanlord of our shop has a literal fleet of Prius and I showed him the ad where he had it listed for $8,000 and he told me I could easily get it for $6k. 125k miles. He said something about a battery issue so they had to put a different set in, and something to do with the frame but it was straightened out. It drives in a straight line so I'm not worried about it. I'll put it on the shop jack later and see what's up with it. I think it's going to be a perfect family commuter. I also brought a car seat with me when I went to look so I was sure it fit. In other car news I have a screw in the front right tire of the Durango. Happened some time on the way to go look at the Toyota.

did some driving experience / learn the product thingy at work once in one of these. Good half a day that.

My Impreza just decided to blow a transmission seal or something somewhere, so now it's leaking transmission fluid.
Right after I just spent $500 on MR2 parts
Fuck.

I dipped my rims yesterday and today i noticed i've put the cover tape around the wheel wrong. Basically the dip on the rim followed with the cover tape. :(
