So here's another "So here's how my day went" post.
Today was club day, piddle around the north shore with all your english car friends, yeehaw.
9AM, bring the car out, and everything seems great. Neighbor of mine brought his TR3 out, meet in front of the house, and a few seconds before we go, i think "ok, i should check for leaks". And i'm thinking coolant or oil here.
Well, pop the hood, and there's enough gas on the intake manifold it's filled the runner valleys up to the brim. This is not good. It was coming off the hose connecting the fuel rail to the #3 cylinder. So i tighten all that up, get all the gas out with a paper towel and test the engine for a few minutes, and everything was fine, didn't even smell like gas. We had to be somewhere in about five minutes so we all took off and had a swell time. I checked the thing twice more on the way, still no problem at all.
So i get back home, break out the ratchet set and make sure everything's hunky dory. Turns out about 2/5ths of the fuel hose clamps were so loose i could loosten the screws by hand. Whoops.
I guess every XJ needs to almost burn to the ground in it's lifetime, because a craigslist car i was interested in gave me a lightshow when i tried to lower the window.
Luckily, i avoided the spectacular mechanical whoopsie of the day award, because the manager of the chapter has an XJ12 which apparently won #1 in North america last year. And this guy was driving in front of me. And along the way, it decided to have a crisis, and threw something in the alignment and the master cylinder at exactly the same time right in front of me. Dude almost took out an old Mazda 3 with 4000 pounds of england, very much overshadowing my fuel leak
So hey, that happened
Miata guys cut out some foam from their seat cushion to sit lower (the "foamectomy")
i'm not even sure how i'd take the seat out of my taurus considering it's a bench
not worth it i think

The more I hear about Jags, the less I think about ever owning one.

nah man, they're wonderful cars. you just gotta take good care of them, just like any old car. I love my XJ.
That said though, there was a MKV there today that blew a fuel line day 2 after a resto and had a good old fashioned barbeque in the engine bay once upon a time. Guess i should bring marshmallows to the next meet.

There was a nice row of XJ`s today, which was cool. The silver one is the one that had an episode. It managed to make it home after some nursing
Jaguars
Ah, this reminds me of my granddad, one of the founding members of the modern Jaguar Enthusiasts Club here in the UK.
I have been to countless Jaguar rallies over the years. Granddad owns a Jaguar MkII in burgundy, very much like this one.

Rear is 100% finished. Shortened, moved the spring perches in, sand blasted, two piece rotors, 4 piston wilwoods, hell of a lot better than the old axle.
Went to put in under the car and the dowel pins on the blocks I got (to lower the car) are too big so I gotta drill the hole in the perch bigger so it'll fit.
If all goes good, car will be on the ground tomorrow for a super sexy photoshoot
Oh, and heres something a little special for Code3

1970 duster, $2000. Old bastard wont budge a cent, mah grab it for $1500 if he'll move, but its a pretty fair price.
8 3/4 rear, subframe connectors, 4 speed parts inside, black interior with buckets, fiberglass front and trunklid, rack and pinion conversion, disc brakes, rallye cluster. Actually a pretty decent car. I was gonna buy it to rob parts off of for my car (hood and cluster, then sell the car to break even), but I've gotta get it closer to done before I do that. I'll keep egging him on the price tho
So I went for a long cruise today and brought my GoPro and used it as a dash cam. After driving around for like an hour with nothing exciting happening, I turned it off to save space in case of exciting stuff!
Fast forward about 30 minutes, this gunmetal grey Jaguar F-Type zooms up my ass on the highway and makes me move over, and then I start to follow him.
As it turns out, the Supra can actually follow the F-Type. Either that or he wasn't flooring it, but we were going pretty fucking fast by the end.
So I had an epic highway pull with a (presumably V6) F-Type, and I forgot to turn on the camera. God damnit.

I think when you spend thrice as long sitting in the engine bay rebuilding, replacing, and tightening parts instead of driving because British Leyland cars were built as minimally viable products, it's safe to say that it's unreliable.

I really like these videos!
It took me four days, and cost me a ratchet but I've finally got the Bilsteins and Lesjofors installed. Spent 10 hours today just on installing the rears almost got hurt 4 times, but whatevs.

Electrical tape wouldn't matter.
I've used it in my personal installs without issues.
As long as you aren't using decade old tape and know what you are doing, it'll come out perfect.
My, thats a pretty vic.
Yeah It was pretty sad to let it go.
in the same post dude
Wrapping the wires in electrical tape is a horrible way to install anything. If you couldn't plus the stereo right in, you really should go and get a bunch of crimp connectors and a good ratcheting crimper.
I just bought $60 worth of SEM Trim Black or 5 whole cans, looks like the civic is going to look fresher this summer and less like faded unpainted plastic. Really should try sourcing a new front bumper for it though, the previous owner seem to like to take huge chunks out of it lol.
Found out today that the bulbs I bought for my Miata's fog lights were the wrong ones. I'm a little miffed that everywhere said that the Nokya H3 9006s would fit but as it turns out, the NB2 had different fogs than the NB1. My NB1 fog lights are like one piece and the bulbs are COMPLETELY different. But I found replacements in the yellow that I wanted so I should be good. Here's hoping that the problem is the bulb and not the wiring.
So.. today we started bagging my friend's Eclipse. It started with gutting the interior/ trunk for running wires and stuff, and ended with me cutting a big hole in the car to remove rust we found in the trunk. DSM problems.. you go to install suspension and you leave fixing rust.

Duster is on the ground!! It looks SOOOOOO cool! The stance is exactly what I was looking for (if not a little lower)
Gotta do some light trimming on the rear wheel lip then everythings good

please stop making everyone in this thread question their lives
[sp]jk, please never stop posting <3[/sp]
Unfortunately, the E28 (or as I like to call it, der Wagen :v:) has been misbehaving a bit. Couple of weeks ago, I took it on a day's worth of a tour through Germany and it was running perfectly all along (the humming of that six cylinder engine, cruising along at 3500 RPM, is nothing short of addicting) until I was only a short distance from home, in the evening. I had been sitting at a constant speed on the highway for 30 minutes already when a sudden clunk went through the chassis and the gas pedal stopped responding. The car had decided I should let the wheels drive the engine for a while, apparently. :ohno:
All signs pointed to a dead fuel pump and after having my colleague in the project tow me back to where this car usually is sheltered, we ordered a new one and installed it several days later... but still nothing. Turned out it was the fuel pump relay that had died, even though it was audibly clicking every time you turned the ignition on. With it replaced (and a simple electrical wire bypassing it in the meantime, thanks to the ingenuity of my colleague), the engine is running again.
[t]http://imgur.com/8c9KKGk.jpg[/t]
You never expect the fuel pump (and especially not the relay) to just straight give out while driving. It was making a bunch of noise (when approaching the car from a distance, you heard the pump whining first, then the engine) so presumably wasn't in great condition, we knew this. Still. At least the new one is nearly completely silent and provides the engine with a smooth and steady supply of fuel, which we were not exactly able to guarantee before.
Then we decided to bring the car over to a friend who had the tools necessary to readjust the valve clearances on the engine, and entered a world where two valves per cylinder is a good thing! We found the clearances all sitting on the wide side of 0.20 mm, where they should be 0.25, so we adjusted this and the engine now runs a bit better (opening and closing the valves at the right times is of course vital).
But now, after I was back home, my colleague noticed the car miraculously stopped pulling when you gave it the full beans into the RPM range above 4500 RPMs... after several attempts, he discovered that only with just a tad less throttle, it would pull through, and then an enormous bang shook up the car (and my colleague :v:). Immediately stopped the car by the side of the road, engine was still running fine to my colleague's amazement, but he opened the door and discovered the following had happened.
[t]http://imgur.com/cQ5pdCs.jpg[/t]
So our home made sports exhaust did improve the flow quite a bit, next to making the ears of everyone inside of the car bleed when pulling weight above 2000 RPMs, and the full-throttle problem had disappeared. But the balance between engine noise when you wanted it and engine noise when you didn't want it was perfect before, and besides, we didn't want to do all of our youngtimer-driving illegally. So we took it back to that one friend, who laughed and then proceeded to be kind enough to do some welding for us.
All of the leaks now gone, it was perfectly calm again. But alas, the full-throttle problem made its return, and now we're looking for a new muffler. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I have to admit though, next to being bitten in the ass by (what I assume is) overdue maintenance, this car addicts me to itself a lot. And makes for some interesting stories to tell.
I picked up that ratty ass old goldwing for my friend, and hes gonna pay for the parts to fix it. I love working on bikes and I've always wanted to fix one on somebody else's budget.
Anyways, the PO rattlecanned the whole thing black. over the carbs, over the front forks, over the perfectly fine black paint on the tank. I spilled a little brake fluid on it yesterday and the crap paint started bubbling up, leaving the nice paint underneath unharmed.
Now I need tips for which chemical with allow me to strip the garbo paint off without ruining the good paint and/or chrome underneath.
info=gasoline
heart=mineral spirits
tool=acetone
rainbow=more brake fluid
or, ya know, give me another suggestion
Got this in the mail for the e46 sedan I totaled

Checked the vin on the wagon, it needs it too. hopefully that will fix the airbag light.
Also for those who asked steering wheels should be here this week!
