Automotive Addicts Lounge V4 - Lube my pistons, baby
I have a 2000 VR6 that my mom bought brand new in 2000, gave it to me when I turned 16 and she got her dream car TT.
Things that may break or already be broken:
-powered door locks died on all doors except the drivers thankfully
-there is a coilpack which, over time gets cracks in it and moisture gets in there when it rains and the car throws all sorts of errors at you.
-Be sure to buy a supply of little 10 amp fuses and keep them in the car, mine randomly blows a 10 amp fuse and many things stop working. Sunroof, car key (buttons to lock, unlock, open trunk), trunk won't pop open, windows don't roll down. Thankfully its a very quick and easy fix once you figure out which fuse broke
-You'll also have to deal with all the little trim pieces coming off at some point, some good glue and they go right back on
-Finally, the A/C in mine is nearly next to useless, heat and heated seats still work marvelously. Not that the A/C was all that great in the car to start..
Other than that, I can't think of anything wrong that isn't routine maintenance or damage my mom did to the car before I got it. VR6 is a lovely little engine, very peppy, makes it a good and fun little car.
If you want to wait a year I might be able to sell it to you, I plan on using some money I saved from not having to pay for school to get myself an Audi of sorts. It hasn't even reached 90K miles yet lol Good luck to ya!
I bet the door wiring is shot on your car, our '96 Eurovan had the power mirrors die twice, and when we sold it it didn't have functioning power windows because I'd been poking around in the harness. It looked like something had been chewing at the wires when I looked at it.

Its just the locks, I think the little servos died. The power windows on all four doors still work just fine. We looked into fixing it a while ago when it happened, but its $250 or something a door...nope
Your A/C Sucks? Really?
The A/C in my C5 Audi would make frost on the vents and when you put the heater on it would melt the vents.....
Efan to blame? Low charge?
I know the reason the A/C in my B6 is just above mediocre is because the A/C charge is low.
I'm still used to just rolling my windows down, and as long as it isn't over 25 degrees C outside I can easily deal.

Because I really don't want to do bearings and all at this moment I just slapped in new pads with alot of lube. Then I replaced a rear cylinder. fucckkk me. I hate GM JB5 breaks. WHY THE FUCK WILL YOU NEVER SELF ADJUST SELF ADJUSTERS. I then proceeded to spend the next 5 hrs bleeding and manually adjusting the rears to even have a break pedal.

that sometimes happens when you strip exif data. the thumbnails will be wrong, the full size image will be fine.

does dropbox automatically strip exif? I never had this issue with my HTC ONE m7 using the dropbox app to auto upload...
That Lagonda is amazing.. what an unusual thing.

My diesel has the JB7 brakes (8400 GVWR HD option) with hydroboost. Really awesome setup. Tons of braking power with great pedal feel. I haven't had self adjustment issues with mine.
Went to one of those "drive a supercar" things yesterday, for a friends birthday.Wwas kind of fun, but was really disappointed in the F430. It was an automatic (in auto mode, not semi) and I floored it once and it just shot up to the rev limiter and didn't change up for like a second. The crappy 4 speed auto in the GF's parents toyota corolla changed faster lol.
The steering was responsive but everything else felt awful.
The Aston Martin Vantage V8 had no such problems though. Now that was an awesome car.

They didn't let you use the paddles? That's kinda shitty man. I did that a year or so ago, it was amazing. First drove a GT-R on the road course inside Daytona, then got to drive a 458 Italia. GT-R is scary fast and so easy to drive, but the 458, despite being a touch slower around the track (for me at least, like half a second), was way more fun and engaging.
The brakes in those cars is what is most impressive, sure they accelerate insanely quickly, but they decelerate even faster. After that I understood why people buy Ferraris, they really are that good.

Yeah, almost got duped in to spending about $130 for one of those experiences. Very glad I read in to them and read reviews before hand! So stupid that they set up a lot of these so you can't even get out of like 2nd-3rd gear!

Yeah, there are some good, proper supercar experiences out there. Most, if not all the good ones are held at tracks. The kind that rhx123 is probably talking about are usually held in parking lots/open spaces with courses that would make a typical autocrosser' laugh and then shake their heads. Like stupidly short courses, usually in an oval or something simple.
They sometimes reel you in with groupon and other site sales where it will be like $40. But then you actually look in to it, and that's just the price to ride along, for 1 goddamn lap. To actually drive, 1 lap, is closer to say $70-$90, and additional laps easily bring it closer to $130-$150. All while barely hitting 2nd/3rd gear.
I'm always trying keep my eyes out for these experiences though, as some of them for sure are the real deal. But at this rate, I'll probably have a better chance, and more fun, by running in to someone at an autocross or track day event.
Clutch boi I have a quick question about car audio. Doing a stripped down lightweight sorta stereo for my datsun in that I am wiring a 3.5mm aux in instead of a headunit as my factory radio is broken.
Is there any issue with sharing the left and right channel grounds going from the jack to an amplifier? I have heard issues about this in the past however I am holding an old audiovox dual channel 40w that tells me to share the grounds off the speakers I am wiring in

Are you talking about sharing the ground on the input, or sharing ground on the output?
both
A buddy at work wrecked his 04 Lincoln town car and put it in the shop hoping to get it fixed. They called him back and told him its totaled and they want it out of their shop by tomorrow. What are his options? I told him he should bring it home and part it out and then scrap it( I want his interior :v:) but the shop is pressuring him to get rid of it asap, can they do that?

He's gonna sell(re:get robbed) it to pick n pull if he doesn't bring it home.

The interior is highly valued among Panther Platform people, as are any spare engine parts, suspension, and probably the wheels. I'd recommend parting it, too.
My motor keeps throwing metal shavings out. LS swap might be sooner rather than later.
That or my top end has a failure. I hear valve clatter at s specific rpm range and not the good kind of clatter too.
But new breaks, new fluids, and a new cb antenna.
She is ready to be rode some more waiting for it to break.

They can tell you to get rid of your car off their property and they have every right after 30 days or so to impound the car and sell it.
Had a really annoying situation crop up the last couple of weeks. Crank pulley/harmonic balancer in the Miata decided to fail while I was simultaneously ordering a new rear tire for my bike. Luckily, the tire was meant to arrive the same day the crank pulley failed... but it was returned to shipper due to a mislabeled UPS sticker.
Long story short I was stuck waiting on a new crank pulley, but my tire finally came after 4 days and I'm back on my own two wheels. She's looking nice.

The new rear tire transformed the bike, feels so much more stable now. I'm ordering parts for a 2-1 carb conversion among other mods. This $1300 bike has been really awesome.

If it's an oldschool amp that wants you to use common ground for the speaker's wiring you can definitely use common ground for the input. Think about it, a 3.5mm to RCA pair adapter cable does just that. You'll be set to go.

Well it's only been at the shop for two days
Today I saw a bike crash on the interstate. The man had no head, and half of his bike was about a quarter of a mile ahead of his body. Tons of people around him, blood everywhere. Not sure what he hit, no damaged cars, unless it took off.
Test drove a 2016 Mazda 3 hatch and sat in a Fiesta SE today.
The Mazda felt slower than my Cavalier, despite having 15 more HP, though I think that was partially due to the automatic transmission being smoother than I'm used to and not dropping into second all the time. The interior was fucking incredible compared to what I'm used to. The hatch had plenty of space. The Infotainment system was quite nice, though irritatingly it didn't include Android Auto.
Talked to a Ford dealership to see if they could help me out getting a Fiesta ST since the nearest dealer with one is in Ottawa, 5 hours away. The guy's solution was essentially something along the lines of, "We'll figure out financing, I'll call you when I find one with the options you want, you can test drive it and then buy it", though I didn't go too far into questioning since it was closing time, but I'll follow up later. Either way, my dad is headed down to Ottawa this weekend, so I'll tag along and try to test drive a Fiesta ST there, maybe drive one home if I'm lucky.
With this 30°C heat in my [del]easy bake oven[/del] car with broken AC, I'm fucking excited for a new vehicle

If motorcyclists would wear a helmet (which should be a law by now) many lives would be saved. Nothing is more gross than seeing brains on the highway because someone was too cool for a helmet

..it's not required by law to wear a helmet on a bike in the US?
What the fuck
..it's not required by law to wear a helmet on a bike in the US?

Nope. The only thing required by law where I am is a motorcycle license (test and road course), and eye protection of any kind.
..it's not required by law to wear a helmet on a bike in the US?
What the fuck
it's up to state law. many (if not most) states require it, but there are a few that don't.
[editline]25th May 2016[/editline]
also a lot of places just specify head protection, rather than a DOT helmet, and under that law technically just a hat or bandanna is legal.
Eh, you start requiring a helmet on motorcycles and soon they'll make it a law requiring it on bicycles, and then when you leave the house in general.
We need to promote things that kill off the idiots, not help them to survive.
Make them wear either helmets or body bags, stops civilians from seing some more that splattered his brain all over the highway.
also not related, but bike related. My coworker got a free Honda (forgot model) 700 cafe-type because his friend bought a house and it was sitting in the garage. Buddy's wife made him get rid of it.
He offered it to me, but as someone who has never rode a cycle before, I passed it up. I'd probably kill myself with it. He's probably going to sell it since hes restoring a 1980 CB650C 650 (which his girlfriend already does not like)
