Metal seems to be doing just fine at the moment (Across the whole spectrum, Prog metal is probably doing the best at the moment)
Music Changes, If music never changed we would all be listing to people playing music on a lute and singing about Castles and Princesses.
Power/folk metal still is
What if someone wants to talk? [editline]17th January 2012[/editline] I'll start it again once people stop talking about me in the gold members forum.
Fuck gmf full of kids who pay for gold membership using mommys card. The music section is fine I remember my 1st post was essentially me not understanding what an indie band was / independant album / genre. Put it this way ive been banned a few times and told im on a last warning the only reason why I dont go and get perm'd is cause of the music forum. Its a gold mine some of the material in there Id of never looked for in my life.
Music Changes, If music never changed we would all be listing to people playing music on a lute and singing about Castles and Princesses.
But people still use those instrument and sings about those topics. Folk music is still around, albeit mainly underground and other genres mix other instruments besides just electric guitars, synths, and computer generated "beats".
Most of my favorite bands formed in the early 2000s and they are still releasing awesome music
Studios pick up what makes money. There are some good bands still out there, or artists. Older decades were less auto tuned and thus more authentic, which in my mind made them better.
My only gripe is with Australian dance music. This is regarded as top notch EDM around here.
I wouldn't say that our generation is making bad music, but simply bad popular music. Think about it, the "outsiders" if you will, never seem to appreciate pop that much. A noted exception might be grunge in the 90s, or rock in the 60s and 70s, but those are the only two I can think of. It's basically like the 1980s all over again in terms of music. Personally, I enjoy bands like Porcupine Tree and Daft Punk, and they still tour and make music.
Definitely not like the 80's.
avoid mtv/radio charts entirely = good music
Music changes with the morals of society, simple as that. You see in the 60's we had bands like the Beatles and the 70's and 80's more amazing bands. Now all you hear is that repulsive rap with a fuck and a shit every other 10 words. I'm 15 years old and I find most modern day music awful.

The Top 40 charts? Underground hip hop and metal? Trance and hardstyle?

Your age doesn't have anything to do with it.
The answer to the thread title's question is "yes". This generation is making shit music. However, not everyone in this generation is doing so. Some are making truly amazing sounds. And thanks to the Internet they can share this easily. All that needs to be done is for one guy (JUST one guy) to stumble on this amazingness, then tell their friends "holy shit this guy is awesome". Suddenly it starts spreading. The problem with that is people aren't looking in the right places for said music. There are sites just for these people, true, but really all that needs to be done is to go onto YouTube and instead of searching for a specific song you know, just search for a genre you like.
or go to sputnik music and look at the top 10 albums of whatever year

The sheer amount of musicians releasing their music on the internet is staggering. Look through it and you will see how much there is.
Music was better in the 90s or easier to find

Name one other band that you like from the 60s. I doubt you can. and the last point you made is completely retarded. "There is only rap and nothing else". Music is an infinite source of expression, no matter what style or personality. Musical prejudice will make you a bad person. It makes me a bad person to be prejudiced against teen pop for example. But I haven't put the effort in when it comes to that. [editline]19th January 2012[/editline]
Music was better in the 90s or easier to find
90s were pretty much a superb period where lesser known artists were being respected a lot more than the lesser known artists of the 80s.
That's funny, because I still remember how people in the 90's complained about how all the music coming out was shit pumped out by the record companies. Nowadays, the 90's seem to get loads of praise. Well let me ask you then- If you think the 2000's sucked so much, give me several shitty songs you remember from 6 years ago. Or 5. Screw it, 3 years ago.
Why are you asking for teen pop from 3 years ago?
Because everybody keeps saying how the 2000's were so shitty, and can't come up with evidence to back it up. It's proof that nobody remembers shitty songs for more than a year anyway (and cherry-picks their favorites), and that shitty singers usually take about 3 years to disappear.

As a whole, the human race is quite retarded. Enjoy your own music and relax.
Name one other band that you like from the 60s. I doubt you can.
The Rolling Stones.
The Rolling Stones.
Their best work was in the 70s imo. Try again. This time, a band that was great only in the 60s. :-)
Why should you be the one to care about what the majority thinks? As a whole, the human race is quite retarded. Enjoy your own music and relax.
We like to call it debating.

[editline]19th January 2012[/editline] I disagree with Cash/Dylan being best in the 60s but that's just me.
Okay why haven't I seen you before?
*shrugs* In the recent months I've become more of a regular Facepunch member.
I disagree with Cash/Dylan being best in the 60s but that's just me.
I never said it was their best, but they did some good stuff. What you said was to grab some bands from the 60's, and I did. Just because their best work was outside of the 60's doesn't make their music from the 60's void. :P DAT STEPPENWOLF MAGIC CARPET RIDE
Interesting.. Have you listened to the new Beach Boys sessions album?
Nope. The only reason why I know 75% of the music I know is because of other people tossing music my way or me the group I started up on Facebook where me and buddies share music. 20% of that music is Pandora. 5% is me clicking on related videos and liking what I'm hearing. I don't go out of my way to grab hold of music most of the time. I know Johnny Cash from a friend giving me the CD. I know Bob Dylan because of my mom. The Doors came from that same friend. Neil Diamond because of YTMND using the "Breaking Up is Hard to Do," for their "We're down!" music, specifically the "Down dooby doo down down - comma comma" loop. Everyone knows the Magic Carpet Ride song from Austin Powers and other various sources. Also, Pandora. Jimmi Hendrix is self-explanatory. He's Jimmi Hendrix. Johnny Cash is also awesome. This weekend I planned on grabbing a lot of albums I've been wanting for a long while. I've let my friend's suggestions and my own personal likes pile up too far.
I don't go out of my way to grab hold of music most of the time.
Yeah I used to not bother too. But now grabbing albums is so much more enjoyable. I'd find joy through searching for stuff in a music store.
