People definately don't look hard enough.
people aren't looking hard enough
Make shit music, Acquire currency The quality of music is in the ear of the... beholder. But there can be no doubt that autotuned wailing and skrillex rake in the moneycash, so it is so its always been.
No one remembers the bad music, and a lot more music is being made now, and I don't think the proportions of bad music to good music have changed much in the last 40-50 years. It's those reasons why I think that music quality isn't really changing, now more people have access to tools to create music, that makes more bad and good music.
This can't really be a debate if you ask me because it is all 100% opinionated. Though honestly in 20-30 years we will all be saying music was better now because we remember all the good songs, But forget the bad songs.
Today's music is the best music. There are more genres and styles than ever. And there are more bands playing each genre than ever. If you think music today is crap then you don't know shit. You haven't even looked. If you don't like today's pop music, then okay, that's your opinion. But don't say it "takes no talent" or is more "generic" than pop music was before. It's not true. You don't know what you're talking about.
Depends how you look at it. The days of good jazz fusion and progressive rock are long gone. We're into the new age of LCD Soundsystem, Fleet Foxes and SBTRKT which in all honesty is fine by me. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
I've been seeing a lot of this: "Hello im 15 years oldi would like to apologise for what my generation has done to music.that is* all."
Yeah that guys an idiot.
I think it's bad, the music before the 80'ties were good.
Your opinion is irrelevant.
Precisely. But the bandwagons nowadays are much for refined and smaller. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
I think it's bad, the music before the 80'ties were good.
That's because you only listen to things before the 80s.
Define shit music ?
This question is very poor imo.
I don't take any effort in finding good music because even if I found it I wouldn't have the patience to sit through even half an album while doing nothing else.

[editline]8th January 2012[/editline] That's because you only listen to things before the 80s.
No I listened to shit like Skrillex and Ice Cube, shit is bad. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline] Gorillaz are bad, Zombie Nation, Mark Ronson & The Business Inc

What do you think of this:
Did you purposefully find them or..? What do you think of this:
Decent, not too good, but not too bad.
Decent, not too good, but not too bad.
Spend more time on the 2000s and discover something you'll really like. It takes time, you can't just choose to notice Skrillex and Ice Cube and hate the entire era.
"Bad music" is subject to opinion, and as long as we hold independent thought, there will always be a portion of individuals who will not like certain music of their generation. You may think "music is dead nowadays oh my god the future looks horrible etc etc!", but you should consider what many oldies would think about rock and roll when it was introduced. Hint: They thought just like what you do now about current music. But guess what? It doesn't matter! Music is not going to die, it's just your brain holding conservative views about what music you like. There's no problem with that. Musicians nowadays are no worse than musicians 50 years ago, it's just that you were raised listening to different music than what people listened to 50 years ago. Your opinion is irrelevant. Why can't you just listen to the music you like and not go bashing other people for what they like? What gives you the right to say that the music they like is shit?
When it deteriorates to the point where it's just long strings of profanity without even a tune then yeah it's bad.
I can't see how sounds, generated by computers can create "good music". Auto-tune makes this even worse.
Define shit music ?
I never really understood why just because music in is in the Top 40, that automatically means it's shit. I think artists like Amy Winehouse and Adele are fantastic and just as good as anything that came out 40 years ago.
Go into rate the album / suggest an album thread in the music section pick a few of them you like the look of. Just stay away from Death grips I doubt you will like it :D (its an acquired taste? )
I can't see how sounds, generated by computers can create "good music". [editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
Indie
Do you mean the style of music or independant labels?
it's 70s mainstream all over again
70s is the most complex decade for breakthrough artists. Technology improved the sound, fidelity of recording and experimentation. There still is a lot of experimentation now, but it's more computed than mechanical/electronical.
Most people have only heard Pink Batman by Dan Deacon because of Craterface but he's a pretty interesting artist While it's true that you can't polish a turd, I don't think entire music generations should be labeled as turds. This generation is more like a turd with a few beautiful and incredibly expensive blood diamonds in it.
People aren't looking hard enough. Hands down. There was as much shit music in the 80's and 90's as there is now, but all anyone remembers is the good music from that era. It feels as if there is more shit music nowadays because of social networking and youtube. There isn't.
Actually people are even looking hard enough, and there is as much good music nowadays as there was 20 and 30 years ago (and sooner if you will) Obviously 30 year later you will only remember the good stuff, just as today we only remember the good stuff. And now we look at "timeless hits" that happened decades ago, and we still produce them, but you can't tell a timeless hit if it just happened
Define shit music ?
Good music does exist but the current generation is all vying for bad music. Saying that a generation is making bad music and then someone saying "No! You aren't looking hard enough" is ridiculous. If a genre of music isn't popular, it's going to be hard to find music from that era. For example. The majority of people disliking his music does not affect his profit from the number of people that enjoy his music. Jane's Addiction for example, puts out a fantastic new song and it does alright. It's not getting much publicity though and I only heard it through public radio. We've come to a weird crossroad where enough people can like music that it becomes popular, yet it's largely disliked. Justin Bieber is just one example of this, where the majority of people think his music is hilariously bad, yet he's one of the most popular performers out there currently due to his fanbase. It's just that music is so subjective that the music that's the most popular isn't necessarily liked by the majority of people, it's just liked by the MOST people. [editline]8th January 2012[/editline]
I can't see how sounds, generated by computers can create "good music". Auto-tune makes this even worse.
I agree that Auto-Tune is no substitute for good singing (Not just having a good voice, but also singing proper pitch the entire time. Singing can be very technical).
Some people think the more modern, electronic or digital music is okay and just don't give a fuck, and the jazz/rockwhatever people claiming "real music is dead" are retards who can't make more extensive searches than through a generic Top 20 list. Look at bands like Deep Kick and Honingbarna, for example. Hell, some old ones like Jamiroquai are still going strong.

Both Gorillaz and Led Zeppelin. Both Classic Rock and Dubstep. Am I a traitor? That's what people makes it sound like, but I just enjoy the music. I love the soothing tones of David Gilmour belting out the greatest solo of all time on his guitar, but I don't mind having my truck vibrate from the sub-woofer going either during some dubstep.
