That's a stupid argument, you don't need to have listened to every bit of a huge genre to have an opinion about it. [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] that's not even the point of that post, the point is that Hooky was saying that music being trash is not an opinion, and I made clear that it actually is
It's not a genre, it's an entire bloody era. It's the exact same reason you can't dismiss all modern music, it's too huge and varied to encompass.
It's not a genre, it's an entire bloody era. It's the exact same reason you can't dismiss all modern music, it's too huge and varied to encompass.
I agree with this, but Akayz was arguing as if BrQ was saying his opinion was fact, which he hadn't.

It's the exact same reason you can't dismiss all modern music, it's too huge and varied to encompass.
I see what you are getting at, but if there isn't a single thing you like from what you have heard of modern music, it's safe to say you don't like modern music.
I see what you are getting at, but if there isn't a single thing you like from what you have heard of modern music, it's safe to say you don't like modern music.
No it isn't. [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] It's never safe to make that broad a generalisation.
if there isn't a single thing you like from what you have heard of modern music, it's safe to say you don't like modern music.
Someone hates all black and white movies. It's a poor, biased, prejudiced opinion that isn't worth bringing into discussion. That's the type of opinion that people can do without. You listen to a few songs off the "60s radio" on Spotify, spending about 10 minutes and hating all of it in that period of time. If you are happy with your judgement, don't bring it into this arguement because you know full well it's worthless.
No it isn't. [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] It's never safe to make that broad a generalisation.
It's not just a generalization out of nowhere. It's based on which genres were popular in that time, and I simply don't like them. Stuff like Rock, Soul or Blues are genres I am not interested in at all. There might be a few things such as R&B, which only interest me in their modern form, not in their old one. By your logic, no one can ever hate any genre because it's a broad generalization as well. You couldn't say you don't like rap because there might be rap out there that you actually like. If you the line above is wrong, then you should understand that I don't enjoy the genres from the 60's and therefore I don't like music from the 60's. Know this: No matter how much music you ever hear it will always be perpetually insignificant to the amount of music actually out there.
Your opinion on why teen pop sucks is just as worthless then
I know it is, that's the thing. And I never said it sucks, only that I'm not inclined to hear it just yet.
I fully agree with that line though.
Stuff like Rock, Soul or Blues are genres I am not interested in at all.
I'm guessing Jazz is on that list too. It's okay, all I can say is that I bid you good luck in your future endeavours.

Most other times I disliked it. That's reason enough for me to say that I dislike jazz. good luck to you too
It's funny though. All the music we deem shit is the music that's praised by the majority of this generation. We think they're insane for liking in, when in retrospect we're the different and rebellious ones who dislike it. There is music for all of us. Everyone is different.
Learn to right songs with the right hook or chord and you can make yourself millions. I think they researched 12 song structures/hooks that would almost guarantee that a song would be a hit. Some documentary with Sting in it.

It doesn't have to be specific to each person, because we all work the same.
I shouldn't have posted here because I am a total asshole when it comes to music . I know there are opinions and everything, I understand . I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't listen to a certain genre of music because I think it's complete garbage or that 60's music is far superior to any other decade of music there is . There's just something that feels a lot more live about the music from then and I'm not just talking about the beatles or led zeppelin or pink floyd . I just have a strong connection to a small number of artists/groups from that specific time that changed the way I thought about my instruments . . so I think insanely highly about them and they all happen to fit in around the same time . Of course there are groups from the eighties that I think are great and even some from the nineties but all I'm saying is, and yeah, I'm probably wrong, is that I have been showed a lot of modern music and nothing has struck me as much as those groups from the 60's have . I dig Radiohead . . J Dilla has always been held in high regard (I actually got a chance to speak to his mother on the phone after I called in to 88.9 in Boston) and there are some others that I've enjoyed . I don't know, I am somewhat of an elitist asshole but I just think most of what I hear today doesn't cut it . Sounds like lazy people with ideas , over-playing , drowned in reverb , too much noize, overproducing, trying to be epic . . whatever, I'm an asshole , I'm glad you guys disagree with me, shows I'm doing something right . :downs:
shows I'm doing something right . :downs:
The issue is you talk way too much. I think you like music, but have no idea where to start talking about what you enjoy. Try here: http://www.facepunch.com/forums/262

The reason why I talk so much is because I feel like I've been exposed to the truth, the pinnacle of music . . so I get lost for words and I end up saying a lot .
that will make my most favorite groups look bad .
Dammit, the section isn't that immature. Just take a look around in album threads and whatever.
Dammit, the section isn't that immature. Just take a look around in album threads and whatever.
I know , I know . thanks. [editline]27th February 2012[/editline]
Dammit, the section isn't that immature. mp3 encoders? unless you mean the music.
mp3 encoders? unless you mean the music.
no, the music.
Only one of them has a real instrument I have, the rest are fiddling with pre-recorded sounds and piecing them together. Not too complex.
Only one of them has a real instrument I have, the rest are fiddling with pre-recorded sounds and piecing them together. Not too complex.
I get it but what program are you using to do it with ? Are you playing anything on midi ?
No midi. Just audacity. It's all I need really. [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] which one are you talking about too?
No midi. Just audacity. It's all I need really. [editline]27th February 2012[/editline] which one are you talking about too?
I was listening to the 80's instrumental and the jingle bells . . oh and spy satellites Audacity is great my friend used to use it a lot like that but he wasn't as good .

Just edited the original. Jingle Bells was on the Facepunch christmas album :v:
Ah, that 80s is actually not my composition. Just edited the original. Jingle Bells was on the Facepunch christmas album :v:
damn. Yeah I love how facepunch has the compilation albums , I got on the covers one but I'd like to do something original for the next .
Gonna have to side with AK'z here. There's no way you could have heard all of 60s music to gauge the fact that you totally despise every last bit of it. You don't bother to say "what I've heard of 60s music, I haven't liked" you outright say that you hate every last bit of it. I think you're exaggerating.
i don't like much popular 'classic rock' from the 60's-80's and a lot of people base their assumptions of music from that era on bands like aerosmith and boston but progressive rock from the same era owns hard. I personally think if you like prog, you should be able to enjoy psych rock from the 60s, those were years when styles kind of mashed into each other. Also the charts back then must have been really varied.
