Music? Is this generation making shit music, or are people not looking hard enough?

There is no good or bad music. People listen to that, what they enjoy. Hell, some girls even enjoy Bieber. I enjoy LMFAO. There is no restriction for music whatsoever. Haters gonna hate.
I'm guilty of liking LMFAO. :P
Lemon Demon, Jonathan Coulton, Jack Conte etc etc.

Fuck no, there are some gems among the shit.
Good genres:
SOME country. It's alright if you find the right songs.
Country pop because it actually takes a good amount of skill and is generally about meaningful songs rather than some random shit like shoes and pandas.
SOME classic rock. Personally, I like some rock songs but I never like most of a band's songs. Most of them all sound the same to me. Examples being Aerosmith, ACDC, etc.
SOME Classic pop.
Bad genres:
Modern pop/autotune. The shit sucks, enough said.
Metal. All it is to me is one guy playing a guitar, one guy with drums, and a lead singer that says three words. The same can go for most classic rock.
Screamo. It requires no skill and sounds like shit.
Computer generated sounds. They don't require any skill and mostly sound just weird/bad.
Dubstep/techno. It takes no skill and it all sounds the same.
As for the OP, I don't think it's our generation. I think it's the artists and/or the record companies. Some people just shouldn't produce "music". If they have no talent, they just shouldn't.
It really does depend on the one listening to the music, Everyone has different tastes.

Wow could you be anymore full of shit?

You'd be surprised how hard it is to write good electronic music.

First, you're stating your opinion a though it's fact.
Second, 'computer generated sounds' are shit? To be honest some of the most beautiful, serene music I've ever heard has been done using mainly synthesizers and computers (although I guess that is all mostly technically done on instruments, recorded, and then manipulated, but still) - ambient music is a wonderful thing when you just want to chill out and relax.

You clearly are another one prejudiced against electronic music.

Don't waste your energy with a guy who has prejudice. He'll read it and start moaning.

Correct
This is what can happen if you lock yourself in the past.

i love it how people have the idea computer generated music is any different to a guitar or a piano. everything is made up of sine waves buddy, there are no different sounds only differently arranged methods of creating sound and whenever you listen to a guitar, that 'sound' is the same as when you play your guitar music through a computer. or an amp, its being generated by a computer in some way
ive had a strong dislike towards screamo all my life but i cant say it's exactly easy, with only the ability to play a piano if i tried to pick up a guitar and wanted to get myself doing what is constituted as a good pig scream or whatever it would take alot of work and practice to actually get anywhere good.
and just to further reinforce my point, here is dubstep and pop from someone new:

and dubstep you may consider to be shit but has taken an incredible amount of work:

sadly im afraid you'll find the same in every genre. nowhere in the history of man has there been a successful genre that has been easy to make, because its simple economics that when a field or industry is saturated to its maximum it is valued alot less. thats why music constantly changes to benefit the difficulty surrounding it
I just said don't waste your energy with a guy who has prejudice. :v:
It's a simple flaw of a person's personality, but we can get over it.

there are alot of people who share the idea that EDM is somehow incredibly easy to make though, just trying to spread the musical love and broaden peoples minds!
just trying to spread the musical love and broaden peoples minds!
That's brilliant. But as I was optimistic as that before, I realised the ones that find the things you have to offer useful, are the ones who seek it.
I've heard many a time that "Metal is shit", but once you gel into the characteristics and thematics, it's all good. Say 3-4 years ago, I wouldn't have dreamt to enjoy black metal or any type for that matter.
Also, to me, dubstep all sounds the same. Either that or I've been listening to the same artist over and over again and all his shit sounds EXACTLY ALIKE.
I hear this a lot, but then I think all rock and rap music sounds the same.

It takes time to realise the error of your ways.
It takes time to realise the error of your ways.
It takes time to accept not everyone has the same views on music and that nobody has the correct one.
It takes time to accept not everyone has the same views on music and that nobody has the correct one.
Okay, I'm just saying.
I've been that way too. It's just me telling you about realising the error of my ways.
There's nothing wrong with modern music, it only reflects the world of the current 21st century, just as it was in the 50'ies, 60'ies, 70'ies, 80'ies and 90'ies. Just because you're a stupid prick doesn't mean the music has gotten worse, you're just stuck in the past and wearing the biggest nostalgia goggles.

Actually I wasn't around for 80's and 90's rock, but I like it anyway.

I grew up listening to music from those years, but that doesn't mean I don't like music created now. In fact, I like it even more, for me 2000-now is the best age.
here's a point
when did Neutral Milk Hotel release in the areoplane over the sea?
that's the best decade.
well if there's anything ive learned in the music industry, its the person who progresses the most and makes the weirdest stuff sound good who will be the most successful. people just like new things, its nature i guess
There's always fresh ideas. The mind doesn't have a peak in creativity.
I really dislike some of you guys hating on electronic music when all you've listened to is Skrillex.
And as said before, you can't really categorize music into good and bad in general.

Oh, yeah, and just because I like older music doesn't mean I hate modern music either.

Be Open Minded more, people.
The reason we like music from the last decades more is because we can pick the good things out more easily than we could right now.
So it's pretty much just a matter of not really looking hard enough to find good music today.
i'm really sick of people complaining that autotune automatically makes music bad. autotune doesn't make your voice sound better, it just readjusts the pitch, allowing singers to use ranges of notes they usually can't. singing in tune is an incredibly basic concept and vocal training focuses around making your voice sound nice, not just singing the right notes.
aside from that, a lot of good artists like daft punk use autotune because it suits their music (daft punk's sound is more mechanical and it's appropriate for them to use it). i can agree that sometimes it's ill-fitting for the music it's being used in, but that isn't the fault of autotune itself.
i'd also like to add that artists have been digitally editing music since long before autotune was invented.
