Old timers always say it, because they used to get them as a form of rebellion or war tattoos (which old sailor tats are fucking awesome IMO). It always makes me laugh to think about what old people homes are going to look like in the future. Everyone is going to be pierced, tattooed, and be listening to metal and rock.
Just make sure you get something with meaning behind it or you will regret it.
At least your planning on getting something that means something, my buddy whos deploying soon got the infantry crossed rifles tattooed on his shoulder, once I get my ass back in I'm getting the Engineer Castle.
Either on my wrist for lulz, or somewere else strategic.

Get something in invisible blacklight ink. You can't see it easily under regular light but go under a black light and you'll immediately see it.
I like your idea because it means something to you. Don't just get a tattoo because you can now, get one when you have a meaning behind it. They can be removed, but it's painful and even more money. Take your time to decide.
Also think about your future careers/jobs and if you'll have to cover you tattoos if they're showing.

I think it is only visible under UV.
When theyre freshly done theres some redness on the skin from the needle, but UV ink is clear

I dont think you can get ink that would go under skin and react to temperature change, especially considering under your skin it'll be pretty constant temperature.
