Splatoon is fun though go play it
Some people find that word very offensive and as such refrain from saying it. I do as well, because I have gay friends and family members that would not appreciate me using that word.
If anything it reaffirms how much I like Jim Sterling. But, back on topic, people shouldn't get such a huge advantage in the game by buying these amiibos, especially when they are so hard to find.
Try going to /v/.
You mean the constant babble of people who post "its okay when nintendo does it" seriously?
I see way more people say that then people who defend it. It's at least a 3:1 ratio, which also kinda defeats the whole point of the phrase. It isn't fucking okay if everyone is complaining now is it?

Maybe now but a few months ago there was a dedicated thread for amiibo collection. It's since moved to /vg/ I think.
I find it funny that some of the rarest Amiibos (the fire emblem ones) are the ones that are getting the most functionality (codename steam, the next FE game).
What do Amiibos even do? Is like an AI partner thing exclusively for people who bought that Amiibo?
Amiibos are Nintendo's revelation that they can sell $1 on disk DLC for $10+ by tying it shit shitty plastic figurines.
On disk DLC = bad.
Shitty cheap cosmetic DLC = bad.
Cheap plastic videogames crap = bad.
All those things combined = OMG I love you Nintendo!
I can get behind AI partners and cosmetics/skins. But i agree that extra levels in Splatoon, or exclusive weapons in Hyrule Warrior are already going too far.
I don't even have a WiiU (yet) and I have a couple of amiibos cause they look good on the shelf in me office.
its okay when nintendo does it
this should be considered shitposting i cannot think of a single situation where its been agreed with when people post this
Didn't Nintendo at one point say they're going to be releasing card things that serve the same functional purpose as the figures, but would be cheaper and more readily available (scalpers aren't going to buy the shit out of cards cause they're easily mass produced and have no real inherent value like a collectible figure does).

that'd be cool but I still want a Splatoon Schoolgirl figure.

I dunno, I would buy them just because they're cool little statues of characters that I like if they weren't ludicrously expensive, and I don't even have a Nintendo system.
I think it's a perspective thing. If you think Amiibos are cool and want to collect them, then you see those things more as an incentive or bonus, whereas if your only interest is in those things, then Amiibo are basically just an annoying paywall.
I think the premise was a good one, but it's definitely spiraled out of control.
He is being to harsh on people who are charging double for these products. Its Nintendo fault for making them so rare, that people are selling a rare item for what a rare item is often sold for isnt at all unusual or scandalous.
This whole fiasco is retarded. I love Nintendo to death but when do shit like this it really confuses me.
The people who say the amiibo statues themselves cost too much have clearly never purchased video game merchandising products before because their price range (as long as you don't get into overblown prices due to extreme rarity) is absolutely fine.
Complex articulated statues are literally five times more expensive than most amiibo figures. How tight must your budget be to find twenty bucks for a statue unreasonable.
If any other company was charging $20 for day 1 on-disk DLC this forum would be consumed with nerdrage
But because it's Nintendo it's apparently okay
I've been able to find the splatoon amiibo very easily, sans the 3-pack. I'm sure after week 4, just like shiek or toon link, or other amiibo that were originally hard to get, they'll turn around. i mean, bear in mind it's been 2 days since the release of the splatoon amiibo, and the hype levels are high as hell. the 3-pack was also readily available to pre-order, mostly through walmart, so it's safe to say there's a lot of potential room for stock. they'll be back once the distributors want to send out more of their stock. gamestop, for example, always holds onto a ton of their stock and uses it for later restocks. this is what they did with the gamecube adapters before nintendo printed more of them.
also remember, splatoon is not like captain falcon or pit, where nobody, sans super loud fans know who they are. nintendo's pushing this game HARD, and remember, splatoon had 2 MONTHS of production time rather than the usual 1, which means there were more than average made (generally, although the cpsia listing isn't completely trustworthy in terms of how many were manufactured, but can be used as a guideline)
although i will say, nintendo reeeaaally needs to get an official distribution channel. they need to use store.nintendo.com like the uk division does, where you can actually BUY products from it. but i don't believe every character in the world should be readily available, or else the market will crash and nintendo will lose a portion of their customers, thus demotivating them to work on producing more. if you give the demand supply, then the demand goes down. rather, it's good to find a middleground where some are easy to find, especially the ones everyone can want, and others aren't.

Nintendo slowly becoming Blizzard?

He's not criticising the sellers, he's critisising the fact that they are rare enough for it to be the case.
Seeing people that hate nintendo fanboys in this thread I'm glad I'm a nintendo fanboy. The cancerous fanbase and the cancerous haters of the cancerous fanbase are one and the same.
You know on some level, there are people like me that just like collecting the damn things because they look cool.
I think that's why Disney Infinity wins here, at least in the trio battle of the toy-game market. They're just $10 a pop and I can even get 5 for $20. And what is Nintendo offering? Villager for $30? Lol gtfo.
[editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
And even though I don't care about the game side of these things, Infinity has way more impressive gameplay impact from the figures vs. Amiibos.
[editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
The idea that the Splatoon ones are glorified DLC packs is pretty lame tbh.

All the amiibos are 13 dollars when sold by nintendo. Villager for 30 is scalpers buying them up and selling them for stupid prices.
Also, where do you get 5 for 20 disney infinity characters?
Anyone who collects figures will tell you that Amiibo (most obviously the Smash ones) are hideously off model and terribly painted. I suppose for 15 dollars you get what you pay for, but still. It's ridiculous the lengths people will go to defend Nintendo when if any other company did this they'd be crucified and dismissed Konami-style.
The only weird looking Amiibos I can think of is the faces of Marth and Villager.
Besides that and a few miss prints that were shown online, I can't really think of any other ones that stood out as horrible.
[editline]3rd June 2015[/editline]
If there's one thing I do agree on, it's the poor stock Nintendo has provided for these Amiibos.
I understand if it was just in wave 1, but we're in wave 4 and they still haven't stepped their game up despite already announcing that they are aware of the issue.
They deserve all the hate that's coming to them, especially if those cards are their answer to the poor stock.
I don't quite understand his rage with the spatoon amiibos. Since there were a lot, and I mean a lot, of them everywhere. There were still plenty of the three pack at TOYS R US and hundreds of the singles. Every other amiibo has warrant in complaining, also I'm sure that the splatoon amiibos will be restocked frequently. Which means that scalpers probably won't have that much of an edge.

i don't know at all what you mean by "off-model" except maybe the faces. even then, some of them are still incredible. I especially enjoy characters like Peach, Rosalina (who has some awesome decal work on her eyes) and Captain Falcon, or even people like Link or Zelda. Recently, Wario has had some amazing detail, all of the SMB series is fantastic, especially the gold and silver ones, Mega-Man and Sonic are awesome, and the Splatoon ones are incredible, minus the line going down the middle of their heads (and the squid, that one just looks terrible on the side)
the only bad ones I can think of are the original marth and ikes, shulk looks kinda derpy, pretty much any non-reprint, pre-wave 4 anime characters suck. they look pretty damn good for their size and their price. the smash series in most cases is 90% accurate to the game model, especially for characters large in proportions like Mario, Kirby, or Wario who have a lot of room for detail. you just gotta not expect diamond-cut quality with these figures, i think people would bitch a lot more if the figures cost $20 or $30 but were more intricately detailed.
I've never seen amiibos being cheap looking lol
If you're talking about defects those are very uncommon
My friend is a die hard amiibo collector and owns nearly all of them, and from what I've seen, they're all solid quality aside from the stupid plastic stands some have.
And I only have the splatoon amiibo and that one's nice looking too aside from the seam on the top of the head. Otherwise the paint and build quality is great.

honestly the splatoon dlc isnt even that great. it's litterally the same singleplayer but with a different weapon (correct me if im wrong) so you're not missing out on much not getting it.

Still doesn't excuse the availability problem, though.
