Still doesn't excuse the availability problem, though.
agreed. just thought i'd point out it's mostly a cosmetic day-1-dlc if anything (for the prizes you get)
I've never seen amiibos being cheap looking lol If you're talking about defects those are very uncommon
My boyfriend got me a Sheik amiibo. I noticed that the last wrap of the cloth around the index and middle finger of her right hand is painted like flesh instead of cloth. I demand a refund Nintendo.
I don't buy amiibos because for me personally they're not necessary and I don't have a lot of spare cash but I do think they are pretty cool. People keep saying they're a ripoff overpriced DLC but I feel as though that is understating the fact that these figurines aren't just dlc for a single game. It's a DLC you buy that will assure that you have DLC for all the big titles coming out.
Amiibos are maybe the most egregious form of DLC that has ever existed because it's literally DLC with a limited stock to artificially drive up demand

In other words, you just need one set per group of friends to all be able to access everything.

Amiibos are still stupid.

Most people buy amiibo largely for the figurine, not the game content. Nobody is scanning the amiibo content in and then chucking the figure back onto the market. You buy the character so you have a cool miniature figurine of the character with some minor extra game content on the side. Especially if you're a collector going for a lot or all of them. In Splatoon's case, it's not even great content. It's literally just replaying the single-player campaign with a different weapon to unlock mid-level gear, reskins of beginner-level weapons, and a few one-button minigames. Nobody buys the Splatoon amiibo exclusively for the game content. All GreenLynx is saying is that friends of amiibo collectors can benefit from the collector by using their amiibo to unlock content without having to buy the amiibo. I've already done that myself: I collect all of them and I've given one of my friends all the Mario Kart 8 amiibo outfits by scanning my figures into his game.

It lets you play the single player maps with a different weapon, and your reward is less money than you would get for playing a regular multiplayer game and cosmetics.
