thanks for generalizing me and the other minorities and women who don't support bullshit as "pasty basement dwellers" We appreciate the identity erasing that fucks like you love to give us, massa.
are... are you trying to claim that you're being oppressed by him lol
So what makes you better? Also incredible generalization you cocksniff, you could probably get hired by Kotaku or polygon with that outlook. You should try, you seem to fit the ticket perfectly fine. Mainly being shit.
I don't spew abuse at developers for pointless bullshit, work myself into a frenzy over a franchise or company I dislike, I don't think I'm anything special because I enjoy video games, I literally just play them because they're fun and I enjoy it. [editline]Edit:[/editline] Y'know you're really only proving my point by calling me shit for thinking gamers are manchildren.
We appreciate the identity erasing that fucks like you love to give us, massa.
Holy shit it's fucking video games, not genocide
I like how a video that's deliberately saying "This is stupid" and not even going into any kind of specifics is still generating a huge shitfest as if it had a point to make other than "Hahaha what"
This is literally what I'm talking about, you're comparing enjoying a hobby to the centuries of persecution and horrifying abuse that blacks saw until not even a century ago, that still continues today. You like playing games dude, you're not some oppressed minority.
The whole reason I jumped into the GG ship was when games media started their generalizations and racial and gender identity erasing. That, plus my experience and interest in the journalism field teaching me that everything they do is literally the opposite of what you're supposed to do. Why do I care so much? Well, I'm sorry that I and dozens of other people grew up with a hobby they enjoy, and don't appreciate it when they're thrown into the same absurd bucket as ISIS or whatever they love to call us. Why is it okay that the industry can support social media-wide blocklists, just because it's games? I'm sorry that I actually care about something I enjoy, and something I want to do as a career. But please, by all means, continue passive-aggressively rating me "funny" or "dumb", because that's all pompous white boys like you can do.
Y'know you're really only proving my point by calling me shit for thinking gamers are manchildren.
What do you expect him to react when you're lumping him (and, since you speak of gamers, very much everyone on this forum, because let's face it, we're all gamer nerds here) under the "lmao angry manchild" category. Do you expect praise for your mature and enlightened cynicism?
What do you expect him to react when you're lumping him (and, since you speak of gamers, very much everyone on this forum, because let's face it, we're all gamer nerds here) under the "lmao angry manchild" category. Do you expect praise for your mature and enlightened cynicism?
Basically this. Yeah sure, I'm probably overreacting to all of this and will look like a massive doof, but there's only so much bullshit people can put up with before it blows up.
Isn't that a bit of a Catch 22? You call him a manchild, and if he objects you say it's evidence that he's a manchild, if he agrees then he's admitted to being a manchild.
He can make an argument against my point without immediately shooting for "You're a piece of shit for not agreeing with me".
What do you expect him to react when you're lumping him (and, since you speak of gamers, very much everyone on this forum, because let's face it, we're all gamer nerds here) under the "lmao angry manchild" category. I never said that my opinion is superior to others. I just said in my opinion, gamers tend to be really childish.
He can make an argument against my point without immediately shooting for "You're a piece of shit for not agreeing with me".
Chill out man it's just video games.
Theres better ways to argue a point than just insulting each other. That's 90% of the problem of gamergate is that no one really seems to be discussing anything, just shitflinging insults at eachother so much that you can't even figure out what they're really talking about.
He can make an argument against my point without immediately shooting for "You're a piece of shit for not agreeing with me".
It's not that you're disagreeing, it's how you conduct yourself. Every thread you condescendingly rate people passive-aggressively, dismiss any points people bring up, and call them manchildren. Or that somehow they're less of a person because they enjoy video games and care about the medium. Whether or not you agree with me or GG supporters, we can all agree that a discussion needs to be had. Both sides have this awful "you're either with us or against us" mindset with no room for a middleground or sitting at a table and sharing experiences.
Quite frankly I don't know where some people got the whole, "lol he's comparing video games to genocide" thing from. I'm almost positive the whole "identity erasing" part came from when games journalists tried to push forward the, "there's no such thing as a non-gamer-neckbeard" and "gamers are dead" narrative. Even when trans came out in favor of gamergate they were told, "you aren't a REAL woman", or "you aren't REALLY trans". The outcome of this crap is the SVU episode. Take what bits and pieces of information you want to believe and form your own opinion; just don't be a cunt about it.
He can make an argument against my point without immediately shooting for "You're a piece of shit for not agreeing with me".
You can also make an argument against taking the video game industry seriously without immediately shooting for "gamers are whiny, entitled basement dwellers" You set the tone of the conversation with your initial post. Don't complain when it continues in the same vein.

Stuff like that is what sets me off (I guess triggers?), after having spent considerable parts of my childhood experiencing discrimination because of my race.
I probably wouldn't be doing much for gamergate if anti-GG didn't call me a horrible person for being gay and not wanting a romantic / sexual relationship with a woman. All I've seen from the GG side is free speech and an open environment where your voice can be heard, and debated. I'd rather be proven wrong than forced to believe in something I don't.
I don't care how big an industry is, if the primary fanbase is whiny, entitled, pasty basement dwellers with an enormous persecution complex, I'm going to call it what I think Gamer "culture" is a fucking joke fueled by nerd rage and pointless complaining
None of that is true. I don't agree with anyone who's flat out hostile, but you're only a small step short from being hostile when you don't merely think someones wrong, you think they're stupid.
Gamer "culture" is a fucking joke fueled by nerd rage and pointless complaining
I haven't been following gamergate at all, but to call gamer culture a joke is pretty short-sighted, I mean FP is basically a gaming community and lots of other gaming communities are great places with lots of cool people. Sure there are idiots but that's like saying the entire British culture is retarded because you saw a few videos of some chavs. Gamer culture is simply the culture that arises when a bunch of people with similar taste in hobbies (video games in this instance) come together, the people that are apparently lashing out in this whole gamergate thing are just people who have grown to enjoy or even depend on that culture, and thus preceive attacks on it as personal attacks. People on the other side of this 'fence' simply see it as 'filthy man-children frothing at the mouth because gamer girls and journalism or something' and don't really understand.
