Dropped by the Germans who were stationed in the area.

Probably trench art made by them
Going to buy the big Mars MD coil for my AT Pro within a couple of weeks. Bigger area scanned per sweep, and increased depth should open up a lot of new targets in already-checked fields.

Orkel, do you sell any of your finds or do you keep it all?
Orkel, do you sell any of your finds or do you keep it all?
Haven't sold anything yet, maybe in the future
I ask because you find some neat stuff and there's just nothing like that around in the US and I'd be totally interested in repossessing some of your finds. :v:
I could send you some of the old copper shekels free of charge since they're so common in my area.
The German friend whose coins I posted earlier this page, sent me some of his finds in the mail. One of the coins he sent is a 1/24 Thaler from 1827, which surprised me as it's quite rare.
The 1/24 Thaler compared to the other old silvers of mine, it's at the top:

The other side is very worn but you can faintly see the "24", "Thaler", and "1827".

Friend found this when we were detecting today, it's a 10 Ör silver, 1739. Gave it to me temporarily for cleaning and for taking pics. We're now even in silvers with both of us having found two this year.
It has a lot of small damage though, tiny nicks and dents, probably from stones and pebbles.

No silvers today, so here's a 1/4th Ör coin from 1653.

In about a month or two, i'm going to start getting into metal detecting but one question has been floating my mind and I fear I may never get one consistent answer.
My question is, what coins that you find are worth cleaning and polishing? Some say so long as they're inexpensive, it's okay! Some say never clean any coin under any circumstance.
To me, I would think cleaning an inexpensive coin would be fine. (example, a 1964 dime or quarter).
What do you guys think?
Cleaning inexpensive coins is fine. Polishing isn't really worth it though, makes coins look unnatural. Just do the following:
Be careful with old silver, don't rub em at all. Use copious amounts of water to "slide" most of the dirt off the coin extremely gently to avoid scratches. To clean any tarnish, just soak them in vinegar for 1 hour and then gently use cotton Q-tips to clean it off and make the coin look great. No polishing needed.
Copper coins are best left as is. Using water on them will fuck them up because of the verdigris layer, so just use a dry toothbrush to brush off most of the dirt. Leaving some of the dirt on coppers actually helps highlight the coin details.
Got access to a great field, and the coins there are also well preserved.
Here's a 1 skilling coin from 1820

My oldest coin ever found. A square klipping that were used between 1521-1627, so there's a high chance I just found a coin from the 1500s.

Can faintly see the two crossing arrows (similar to the skilling) in the first pic, and the Swedish crown between.
Man this is so cool. Wish my country wasn't so large and relatively uninhabited for all of history. My province would potentially have some metal stuff from 1600s on, but it would be near impossible to find except within cities where you can't look or dig really or way out in the boonies where I would have no idea where to look.
From left to right:
1/6 Thaler from 1754, German coin found in Finnish fields
1 Fyrk from 1593 (holy fuck the age)
20 Kopecks from 1779

Both the Thaler and Fyrk have holes in them, they've been used as jewelry
½ Öre silver coin, from 1599

The purity is only .219 (around 22%) silver, which results in the dominant copper coming to the surface as little specks after being in the ground for 400+ years. Still awesome condition.
Orkel has convinced me that Finland is simply a light covering of dirt over a vast trove of coins.
Silver jewelry piece from 1867. Made by a guy called Wilhelm Ismael Lindfors who worked as a silversmith in my town.
(the flower actually rotates)
Silver content is 13L, which means .813

Also this really old military button.

[editline]14th May 2016[/editline]
It's a British General Service button from early 1900s, likely WW1 era. I wonder what it was doing here in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Finland.
look what I got bois

the giant search coil is here, time to dig holes to china
Checked out a new field but it was way too overgrown so was only able to find one coin. So have this hedgehog instead. Hanged about watching me detect

New permissions on really old fields (1600s). No silvers, but we found many coppers. About 24 in total between me and my friends. Here's my lot:

Here's my friends detecting

And here's a panorama of the fields

What is the weirdest thing that you have found?
I haven't really had any "weird" finds. A toy gun probably? Or a tin knight that I posted a pic of in this thread? Most of the finds are either bottlecaps, coins, buckles, or other trash.
Found this newer silver markka today

Also this dagger handle

A group of detectorists found Denmark's biggest viking gold find to date this week.

6 gold bracelets and 1 silver bracelet.
I'm going to normandy soon, hopefully I'll find some cool stuff!
Couple of coins today (left from about 1660s, right from 1719)
