Everyone who's into metal detecting/ww2 history should really check out these threads, amazing pictures of finds of guys digging in Russia/Poland. Found a little cup thing from a friend's yard at 20cm depth. The AT pro is giving it the highest possible ID at a solid 99. It's probably not silver though, it feels really light and has just lacks the feel. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1430793189.jpg[/t] Most likely made of zinc alloy. Zinc coins apparently give 80-85, and the ID is "boosted" to 99 by the object's size.
Anyone know of any cheap sand scoops? Looked on eBay and they are fairly expensive. EDIT: thought id add to the thread. I own a Garrett 150(quite poop I know) only found a few things on the couple of hours I've spent detecting. Junk, a pack of pills, 50p in change and 1c.

[t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1430858571.jpg[/t] O boy [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1430882896.jpg[/t] 1 Penni coin, from 1974. Identical design to the other copper penni I found, but this one is made from aluminium so it hasn't corroded in the ground. Shovel scratched the back a little. Differences between 150 and 250 btw:
No pin point feature on the ACE 150 No custom and relic features on the 150 No disc and elimination on the 150 1 less depth indicator on the 150, indicating only down to 6 inches only versus 8 inches on the 250 Less sensitivity on the ace 150, only 4 bars while the ACE 250 indicates 8 bars Target indication only 5 notches, versus 12 on the 250
It's a pretty nice upgrade and definitely worth it, especially if you manage to sell the 150 for some extra dosh. If you really want to get into this though you should consider splurging into an AT Pro which is in a league of its own compared to the 250. [editline]5th May 2015[/editline] Also found a bunch of rifle casings, not sure why they'd be in a farming field in the middle of the city. Maybe they were allowed to shoot vermin in cities in the mid-1900s or something, dunno. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1430911412.jpg[/t]
Are there any stamps on the bottom?
Ye, 73 on one side and 05 (or SO upside down, not sure) on the other. If it's SO, it would make sense since that code is for the Finnish ammunition manufacturer Sako A.B. The 73 is likely the date of manufacture, so 1973.
Found a whole rifle bullet from 1944. Opened it up and used the gunpowder inside to light up a sausage grill because Finland. It still lit up perfectly even after 70 years in the ground. Also found this stamp thing that's adorned with the picture of a fist. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1431250386.jpg[/t] In related news, another digger from my city found a silver Markka from 1865 from a nearby field and it's awesome. I should call him and do a co-op digging session someday since he seems to get the best luck
My new playground. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1431300354.jpg[/t] The field has been there since the 1800s so there should be some stuff for sure. The owner of the field and everything around it is a retired rich farmer that was very friendly. Told me that his wife dropped a 2000€ watch somewhere in the field many years ago, that still hasn't been found. Sounds like a challenge Started off as usual though. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnVH5DlySNg[/hd] No watch yet. And nothing worth posting here from the couple hours of searching. There was one rifle bullet tho, and two old copper buttons. The field and surrounding areas are huge so I'm gonna spend most of my summer there.
Found a silver ring from '87. Also has a name but keeping that secret Currently searching for the owner. Fun!
Got a 53 signal, thought it was foil and dug it up anyway. [t]http://i.imgur.com/6V0lkCP.jpg[/t] jesus fucking CHRIST Couple more pics. The middle stone was actually separated in the ground, I was lucky enough to find it and attached it for the above pic to see how it would look. Here's how it is without the middle: [t]http://i.imgur.com/u7O8DIF.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/iGKmRKu.jpg[/t] [editline]26th May 2015[/editline] o right, automerge doesnt work after some hours mod tools to the resque [editline]26th May 2015[/editline] highly doubt they're diamonds, most likely zircons, since the ring itself isn't gold but some kind of bronze/copper(?) it gives off the exact same signal as gold rings though (tested with my friend's two gold rings, both gave 53 as does this)
Sweet find, I have never found a ring before
Found my oldest coin so far [t]http://i.imgur.com/uY8UdlPh.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/2hBG7AUh.jpg[/t] 10 centesimi coin from 1862, Italian. For some reason in a meadow nearby. In Finland. Why was it here
Today's dosh. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433041893.jpg[/t] From left to right: 5 penni(ä) coin 1922 5 penni coin 1977 20 penni coin 1964 10 penni coin 1911 One of the greatest feelings when digging up something is seeing this [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433087026.jpg[/t] Yep, another silver ring. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433073868.jpg[/t]
Just saw your post with the first ring. That would have been a fun challenge! My first thought would be to check any local records for people with matching names that were married that year. Though that would be assuming that they were even married in the city you found the ring in. Next would be to ask around. Considering the findings from Stanley Milgram's Small-world experiment it shouldn't be too hard to find the original owner, just take some time is all. But then again, the original owner may have ditched it for a reason. Bad breakup? Who knows.
5 penni coin, 1872. Found from the middle of a forest. In terrible condition, only one side of the coin is readable. The side with "5 Penniä" and "1872" can only be read under a very specific angle of light. Here's the readable side: [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433287597.jpg[/t] Not even going to try to clean it since the remaining details will just crumble right off
10 penniä, 1866. The design is the same as in the above 5 penniä but it's in a much better condition. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433345675.jpg[/t] [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433331514.jpg[/t]
A snappy 1 hour scan at a nearby sports field gave some 70's coins. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433519073.jpg[/t] Left to right: 10 penniä 1973, 10 penniä 1977, 50 penniä 1978, 1 markka (aka 100 penniä) 1993.
Another old 5 penniä, this time from 1873. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433626231.jpg[/t] Also 5 markkaa from 1946, mixture of bronze and aluminium, they handle time in the ground very well. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433545659.jpg[/t] [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433592015.jpg[/t] Am I the only one posting finds in this thread
Nice finds! I don't really have the time to go out and detect sadly. I would love to post my finds here though..
Coins today. Most are between 1960-1985, with a couple newer ones. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433650793.jpg[/t] 5 x 10 penniä (1 newer, 4 old), a 20 penniä, and a very shiny 50 penniä. 2 x 1 markka (1990s) and a Swedish 5 kronor coin from 1982. A (broken) watch from 1980 [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433634666.jpg[/t] Also found a Finnish Knight, Protector of the Coiniverse [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433708883.jpg[/t]
Op is waaay better now, thanks for that. Again nice finds, I'll have some time the coming week so I'll probably dust off my detector!
Op is waaay better now, thanks for that. Again nice finds, I'll have some time the coming week so I'll probably dust off my detector!
Np, I still added some stuff today. You better post something, this thread is getting lonely with only my finds. I've been detecting almost daily since summer began, even when raining, since the AT pro is completely waterproof (~ ̄▽ ̄)~ Are there really no other metal detectorists on FP?
We a lonely bunch
Some stuff. [t]http://horobox.reager.org/u/orkel_1433943758.jpg[/t] Couple of bullets, some 20+10 penniä coins (60s-80s), a 50 penniä coin (1972), also a 10 markkaa coin (which is the oldest of the bunch at 1953). The shiny one is an aluminium 5 penniä (1980), and the two small unreadable ones are 1 and 5 penniä from somewhere in the sixties. The big brown disc is 1 markka from 1982, it's made of coppernickel and gave a shit signal, almost didn't dig it up.
A silver spoon handle from 1890! It has the name "Hanna" engraved. The main spoon part is missing, will return later to find it if I can. [t]http://i.imgur.com/k4ifnix.jpg[/t]
Fixed? Keep on searching you'll find cool shit!
I have a question, i am going to germany this summer, and I am planning to buy a metal detector, it can detect 30-40cm deep.. Is this enough to find coins or weapons or other ww2 items? Also I have read somewhere that it is legal to MD in Germany, and that you only need A permit at certain sites, or approval by a landowner. but here I read that it is "illegal" could you please explain it to me ? "srry if I am asking too much" And I am having trouble finding any battle locations on the west/southern front of Germany " battle of the bulge" for example. Thanks in advance Jiri Dubislav
I am a Geophysicist. I should totally do this shit. I don't know about treasures.
Was in contact with my regional museum, some of these 1800s coins might be put on display there (they were quite interested in the 1862 Italian coin since it was found in Finland)
