You guys seem to be forgetting there is a third film that I don't think anyone has seen. Could be a surprise winner.
I haven't seen the film, but its got a unique art style.
I hope the girl from True Grit wins best supporting actress. She did an incredible job.
Just remember that the Academy doesn't like newcomers. It'll help with the recognition for later, but I doubt she'll win best supporting actress.
I can see complaining about The Social Network because it's such a gimme, but it actually was a pretty good film. And I guess sometimes the winner ought to be the one that is most meaningful to the period it released in. I wouldn't say The Social Network was my favorite or the best movie of the year, but I won't be all that upset if it wins. That, and I don't really get hung up on these kinds of award ceremonies, no one seriously thinks they are extremely objective, at least artistically speaking.

The Kid Are All Right - Propoganda, not a film people gave a shit about anyway. Recounting this film pisses me off. Next
Why do you say that?
Chris Nolan will definitely win best original screenplay.
I know it in my heart.
Also, for Best Picture I predict The Social Network, great movie.
I'm just hoping Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross win for best original score.
I'm hoping Hans Zimmer win for the best original score, because it was the BEST score of the year.
Also, I'm probably the only one that thinks that James Franco should win an oscar for his role in 127 hours, but I think Colin Firth will get the oscar.
I haven't seen it, but I feel that The Fighter will sweep the Oscars.
'Iron Man 2' Nabs Only Oscar Nomination Of 2010 Comic Book Movies - Should There Have Been More?
When last year's Oscar nominations were announced, we lamented the fact that "Coraline" was the closest we got to a nod for a film based on a comic book property. This year, we have one very clear comic book movie in the mix, "Iron Man 2," but it remains the sole representative of the comics world.
The 2011 Oscar Nominations were announced today, and "Iron Man 2" received a nomination in the "Visual Effects" category. The only comic book movie named in this year's nominations will face stiff competition in the category from "Alice in Wonderland," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1," "Hereafter," and "Inception."
Sure, 2010 wasn't exactly the strongest year for comic book movies, but was "Iron Man 2" the only project worth a nod? I'd argue that there's another movie that could have made the list, too.
When we named "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World", we cited the amazing visual effects that director Edgar Wright incorporated in the live-action film to translate it from page to screen. From hyper-kinetic fight sequences to eye-popping digital effects, "Scott Pilgrim" felt like no other film released this year — and its visual effects were a big part of that.
While I'm fairly certain that "Inception" will run away with the category, "Scott Pilgrim" could have easily taken the place of "Hereafter" or — dare I say it — even "Iron Man 2" in this year's Oscar Nominations. Having seen all of the films nominated in this category, "Hereafter" seems like the weakest nominee, and while "Iron Man 2" certainly looked amazing, its effects didn't feel as groundbreaking as "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World."
Sadly, that seems like the only potential snub in this year's Oscar nominations. While a great movie, "Kick-Ass" wasn't quite Oscar-worthy (though I wouldn't be upset if Chloe Moretz got a nod for her Hit Girl performance), and both "Jonah Hex" and "The Last Airbender" already got the Razzie nominations they deserved.
Toy Story 3 is nominated for 5 awards, Inception is nominated for 8, then again, I don't watch movies that much anymore(and its either on cable, internet, or netflix).
I'm tired of hearing about The Social Network, wouldn't mind if The King's Speech or Black Swan won.
I really hope Dragon wins best original score.
1 nomination for Tron...
fuck all the other movies tron, true grit, and inception were the only ones worth watching this year
Inception should win it all.
Rong should also be hung for having an opinion, so should Jack_Thompson. Also he's going to do something if the gift shop doesn't win for best documentary. BE CONCERNED
If exit through the gift shop doesn't win best documentary, I'll probably do something.

:what:
Inception was great, but TS3 made me feel great.
Why are you posting like this?
No nomination for Hans Zimmer's Inception soundtrack? Are you fucking kidding me?
Which is weird, because 127 Hours' score got nominated, and that was extremely bland.
Jurassic Park's score should be nominated again, just because.
Christian bale deserves Best supporting actor for The Fighter, really great performance.
To be honest, I think he carried a film which didn't have much going for it otherwise.
Wasn't she the only woman in True Grit? How is she a supporting role? Wasn't she the main protagonist? The Academy has their head on backwards.
i might be a bit late to this thread of discussion, i remember talking about this with some friends shortly after seeing the movie
hailee steinfeld was otherwise a no-name actress coming into true grit. she definitely did an academy award-worthy performance, maybe even the best female performance of the year for all i know. she was basically one of the last roles cast, as indicated by her being at the very end of the beginning of the credit roll (totally don't know how to word that better). and it isn't like the academy to not only nominate but award a fresh face to the scene for such an important award.
yes the academy kind of screwed up in that regard, but look on the bright side: her chances of winning something are basically solidified with her nomination for supporting actress.
I'm really surprised Leo didn't get a nomination for acting in Inception.
[editline]26th January 2011[/editline]
I'm guessing Inception wins for sound editing, and The Social Network wins for original score.
Saw The Fighter yesterday...
Christian Bale was amazing. But not "as he has always been" kind of way. He was genuinely brilliant and he deserves the oscar wholeheartedly, the movie wasn't just boxing and end the day.. it was his portrayal that made the movie so great.
I guess the reason why Nolan didn't get nominated for Best Director is because they're saving it for TDKR.
:v:
You've got to remember the Academy Awards is rarely just about people's performances. It's ran by a bunch of stuck up old fucks, it's 70% hollywood politics, 30% performance related.
I'd like Jeff Bridges to win best actor

i like trent reznor but fuck sake i mean HANS ZIMMER
better win for that
i'm surprised Jackie Weaver got nominated
she isn't going to win it but at least animal kingdom got one oscar nomination (fucking loved animal kingdom)
animal kingdom was fantastic
australias token fantastic film for the decade
Tron deserved a nomination for visual effects, though Iron Man was visually lovely the visuals weren't exactly creative. Scott Pilgrim is supremely overrated by a load of people here and didn't really deserve any awards, though I do applaud the creativity of the visual effects. Kick ass was better than Scott Pilgrim but again wasn't really award winning, though Hit Girl deserved at least some recognition.
Anyway, Inception or TS3 should win Best Picture, Black Swan was great but it was an 8/10 at most.

This isn't true. People are nominated by their peers, so directors are nominated by fellow directors, actors by other actors,etc...
Obviously there are politics at play, but it isn't actually run by a bunch of out of touch old men.
Toy Story 3's pretty much already won Best Animated
Unfortunately, the Best Animated category lacks some great movies outside USA.
Still Toy Story 3 is certainly a winner this year.
I'm glad Social Network got some nominations. I thought it was a pretty good film.
[editline]26th January 2011[/editline]
That doesn't mean I want it to win, just glad to see Fincher get recognition.
